Best Live TV Service for March madness?

I need temporary cable access to watch March Madness! I do have an antenna, but need something that gives me TBS, TNT and truTV.

Between the following, which works most reliably on AndroidTV? I'd also strongly prefer 5.1. I love my Nvidia Shield Pro (I think the 2017 model?), but also have a Chromecast with GoogleTV I could use.

What I've been able to gather from research and personal experience:

Service Price Works on Nvidia Shield? Works on GoogleTV 5.1? Other Notes
YoutubeTV 64.99 (already did trial) Buggy, maybe not Yes? Yes Until it started having issues on my shield, this worked really well for the olympics in the past.
Hulu + Live TV 69.99 No? Maybe? Not sure if 5.1 Mixed reports that this doesn't even work on my shield
SlingTV 35 Yes? Yes? No When I tried this a few years ago, it was very mediocre
FuboTV 65 (after 7 day trial) Yes Yes No
Directv Stream 59.99 Yes? Yes? No App seems mediocre
March Madness App + YoutubeTV Depends Yes? Yes? No App quality TBD

I'm leaning towards YoutubeTV, and resorting to my Chromecast with Google TV if the app is still acting up on my shield. I'm also considering SlingTV, but the app was pretty awful when I tried it a few years ago.

edit: added FuboTV

Is Nvidia Shield 2019 (non-pro) worth upgrade over built-in Android TV for the following reasons?

I've got a Hisense U6G with android-tv built in. Someone is selling me an Nvidia Shield 2019, non-pro for 50% of MSRP. 110 cad/86USD.

I currently mainly use my TV for wired/ethernet streatming of Cinema HD, Kodi, Netflix, BBC iplayer.

I've got a Sony STRDH190 receiver and a pair of Sony SSCS5s so stereo setup essentially.

I would appreciate opinions,

thanks

EDIT: I'm mainly frustrated at the time it takes to rewind something on VLC or load up kodi. I've also heard the 4k upscaling is really good but I don't know how it works and in which apps.

Start tv by casting on Mi box S?

Hi, is there a way to make the Mi box to behave like a "normal" Chromecast? In the way that its always available to cast to. And when you do the tv reacts to that and starts by itself. Not only do I want this because this is easier. But also because I want to be able to incorporate it in different scenes in smart home automation. And if the case is that the Mi box is unable to to this, does the Google TV work in that way? Thanks in advance!

Stop Android TV from "Checking USB drive... reviewing current content"?

Hello.

I bought a MiBox S to run Kodi. So far so good, the only problem is, that each time the MiBox is restarted, Android TV decides it wants to check what files I have on my external USB case, which happens to have 4 x 8 TB hard drives.

Of those, only 2 have movies and series, the other two have millions of small files, so it takes a lot of time for Android TV to check them all, and it makes MiBox absolutely sluggish.

At first, I thought it was a problem with the MiBox, so I bought a Meecool KM2. But it is exactly the same problem, so I assume it is something in ATV.

What happens exactly is that as soon as I connect the USB drives, or turn on the USB hard drive, ATV starts to check for what information is on the hard drives.

A pop up that says "Checking XXXX1 USB drive...", "Checking XXXX2 USB drive...", "Checking XXXX3 USB drive...", "Checking XXXX4 USB drive...".

If I go to the notification icon and press it, the Notifications column appears on the right, and it lists all hard drives as:

Checking XXXX1 USB drive...

Reviewing current content

Checking XXXX2 USB drive...

Tap to set up

Checking XXXX3 USB drive...

Tap to set up

Checking XXXX4 USB drive...

Tap to set up

If I press on either option for "Tap to set up" I see the options Browse, Set up as device storage, or eject.

Eject just does that, browse shows what is inside the hard drives, and set up as device storage tries to format the hard drive.

By the way, in the case of the Mecool, the 3rd hard drive makes it crash and restart, the MiBox works just fine.

But the process takes about 45 minutes and is a pain to see the hard drives spinning like crazy. Is there any way to stop Android TV from doing this?

Thanks.

Onn 4K UHD CEC only turns off TV

Hi I have a Hisense Roku TV (55R7E model).. everything is fine and the remote setup connected to the TV and works fine.

However, when I press power on the remote, it ONLY turns off the TV, and it doesn’t power off the Onn device. On my other Onn hooked up to an older LG TV, I believe it works as it should, Eg you press the power button and the Onn goes red/sleep/off (whatever it does when it goes red), AND the LG TV powers off via CEC.

But for some reason with the Hisense Roku TV, it only powers off the TV and the Onn device stays on (white light stays on). Seems like CEC isn’t working correctly, somehow?

Anyone else have or had this issue or solved it ? Thanks!

insanely slow playback on a very fast network

I bought a TCL 55C725 two months ago. Apart from the OS being a little slow i've never had any real issues with it, until i came home yesterday. I saw that it had updated the Disney+ app, maybe also the system itself. I'm not sure. But ever since that update everything has become unwatchable, everything that i want to watch stops for about 5 seconds after every half a second of playback. This is across all app's: Disney, Netflix, YouTube... There are no issues with my internet, the TV is plugged via ethernet and the speeds are great across other devices. Does anyone know what's going on?

Recommendations for fast external storage for chromecast with Google tv.

So i already have This usb-c hub on my chromecast with Google tv, and while the one random 16gb usb stick works fine in terms that I can install apps on to it and get bit of a breathing space in terms of storage with it.

The system has gotten bit slower since then and for example sometimes when I'm in the system settings, the settings app freezes and then throws me back to the launcher.

And also if i go to the more apps (apps that didn't fit in the my apps list) or if I open the sideload launcher. Then it takes 5-10 seconds for all of the app icons to appear, when previously it used to be instant.

So i would like to know if there is faster storage options than this random 16gb Kingston dt50 that would be better fit for gccwgtv.

Displaying Generative Art using Android TV Box

I know it sounds mad but I want to display WebGL page that displays continuous code based art.

I need it to be on an Android media player that does not have to stream at all. Needs output at 4k. The WebGL is quite complex (particle system simulation).

..I am a complete newbie in this space. I know a mini PC would probably be better, just not an option.

I would love some suggestions or guide from you experts!

Can someone confirm if I can force 4k onto a native 1080p display with Chromecast with Google TV please?

I have a projector which is 1080p native resolution but upscales to 4k, but when I use my PC for this whilst I select 4k, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime are capped at 1080p.

I want to find out if I can buy a Chromecast with Google TV to force enable 4k even though the native resolution is at 1080p so I can make use of the upscaling feature with streaming services.

Any help is very much appreciated. Cheers!

Backup/image of the OS

Has anybody tried to make a full backup of their tv's OS for the purpose of disaster recovery? There are various Android tools to do this on a phone, so I'm wondering if its possible on a TV. I have a Sony kd75x85j and I've been adding apps from the Play store, but it would be nice to have a fallback plan if I mess something up.

Is the Shield TV really worth it for me?

To clarify on the question, I have the Shield TV and I bought it mainly for responsiveness and the addition of gaming capabilities.

I have a 4K Sony TV that came with android TV function and it’s just horrible. It’s underpowered to the point even the UI lags. It frustrated me to the point that I just exploded and came home within the hour with the Shield TV in hand.

The Shield TV is great. Very responsive with some gaming capabilities. Although I find it great, I don’t use its gaming capabilities as often as I thought I would.

I’m basically wondering if I can return the Shield TV, go the $50 Google TV, and still have the responsiveness I want.
