Is Nvidia Shield 2019 (non-pro) worth upgrade over built-in Android TV for the following reasons?

by marsfarce

I've got a Hisense U6G with android-tv built in. Someone is selling me an Nvidia Shield 2019, non-pro for 50% of MSRP. 110 cad/86USD.

I currently mainly use my TV for wired/ethernet streatming of Cinema HD, Kodi, Netflix, BBC iplayer.

I've got a Sony STRDH190 receiver and a pair of Sony SSCS5s so stereo setup essentially.

I would appreciate opinions,

thanks

EDIT: I'm mainly frustrated at the time it takes to rewind something on VLC or load up kodi. I've also heard the 4k upscaling is really good but I don't know how it works and in which apps.

Im still using the 2017 version and im yet to find a reason to upgrade as it still takes anything i throw at it.

recently got a new tv with built in GoogleTV and its trash compared to my 5 year old shield.

I bought my 2019 Shield before I bought a 4K TV with Android. Even after buying a new TV I still prefer the Shield as there is no lag, never any issues, it seems to get updated frequently, I get to use Plex and play 4K videos without any issues while the TV has no chance of handling that, only mainstream apps like Netflix etc.

It’s definitely an upgrade, and 4k upscaling works in virtually all apps, tube can do up to 4k 30fps, which should be good enough for most people. Nv shield Pro is objectively better, but tube isn’t bad at all.

If you would buy it for MSRP i would advice against it, but since you can get it for 50%, go for it. The tube is fine 95% of the times, but even that can lag out. For that price this is the best thing you can get.

Yes the Tube can handle that with ease, you will probably need to add an SD card for expanded device storage.

I would say it's not worthy. It's not too heavy to handle the tasks you will do for your build-in tv.

But like everyone says , you will have better performance with the shield.

Also , you will more chance to having regular updates.

Tv OEMs are really conservative with their android version on the system.
