Mi TV Stick & surround sound

So I have an older Sony AV receiver (STR-KG800) with a Mi TV Stick hooked up directly to its HDMI-port, and another HDMI cable connecting the receiver and TV.

I’ve always been able to get 5.1 sound with other devices (gaming consoles, DVD players etc.) using this connection method, but for some reason the TV Stick only produces 2.0 sound, regardless of which app I’m running. I’ve tried fiddling with every setting possible, both on the receiver and the Stick, but nothing has worked so far. Funny thing is, when I use the built-in Chromecast on the Stick, it’s suddenly able to produce 5.1 sound without a glitch.

I’ve just about given up on a solution, but if anyone out there might know a fix, I’m all ears!

Chromecast with Google TV or embedded Google TV on the TV?

Hi

I'm looking for a new TV and I really want Google TV on it. I was aiming for a Sony Bravia with embedded Google TV. But a friend told to go for another brand (cheaper but same the image quality), and buy the chromecast with Google TV.

He says that the experience is going to be the same. Same interface, apps, power for running those apps, better maintenance directly from Google (and no waiting for Sony to prepare the updates), etc, and save some extra bucks.

Any experiences on this? Thanks in advance.

nvidia Shield tV Pro with youTube hDR problems or Chromecast with google tV?

I know this has been asked many times and I've read many posts already, but I can't seem to make up my mind. I'm looking for an Android device device to use with my LG 4K TV, since I hate the fact that I'm currently using my TV and my provider's TV box for different apps, thus having to use two remotes. I'll be using it for streaming mainly.

I got really enthousiastic about the Shield TV Pro. Good hardware, customization options, and future proof, but it seems it can't handle YouTube HDR. In what way will this be a problem? I watch quite a lot of videos on YouTube, so is this a deal breaker?

Edit: I don't know what happened with the capitalized characters in the title there..

CCw/GTV - 5.1 audio not playing on local files

Hi all,

I just got rear speakers for my soundbar and am having some issues getting 5.1 audio to play correctly (files stored on a harddrive connected via USB hub to my CC).

Given the FAT32 4GB limit, most of these videos have AAC audio, but the videos show up as having 6 channels (not sure if that's me misinterpreting the specs, but I assume that means it's 5.1? Kodi also shows them having 5.1)

I've enabled passthrough, manually selected formats in the CC settings, but I'm still only getting 2.1 (seemingly, even when it's just set to 2.0 in Kodi). When I set it to 5.1(or higher) I get no sound at all. I have my soundbar set to standard. I'm successfully getting 5.1 in that setting with both regular live TV (via antenna), HBOMax, and Netflix. It seems to only be Kodi and VLC that I'm having issues with.

Soundbar is Samsung HWA650 connected through ARC. TV is a TCL 55P605.

Mi Box S - is it possible to turn off HDR on Netflix / Prime Video?

Hello everyone. First of all I want to thank you for encouraging me to buy Mi Box S two years ago. I have read so many bad things about it but I never had any of the problems ever, it just works like a charm, even after the update, maybe I'm lucky, I don't know. Anyway, here's my problem:

I bought Samsung TV and I'm really satisfied with the colors and picture quality for the price. I don't even want or need HDR to begin with.

HDR in this TV is broken, all it gives you is an ugly washed out of colors picture.

The problem is that the connected devices treat this low budget TV as a real HDR TV set and force it whenever possible.

You can't do anything about it with TV settings but it was really easy to deal with it on PS4 - I just turned the HDR off - problem solved.

Unfortunately I don't know how to resolve the issue on Mi Box S.

**Here are my settings:**Auto switch to recommended resolution from TV: OFF

Screen resolution: 1080p 60hz - I can still use 4K on YouTube and the picture quality is great so I don't see the point in changing this to 4K. I also don't want to put too much strain on the device.

Color depth settings: OFF - same situation, I don't see any difference, colors are already great so I keep it as it was by default.

Color space settings: YCbCr444 - I have no idea if this would help with the issue, I heard that changing it to RGB may help but then the overall picture quality will be worse than with YCbCr.

HDR to SDR: AUTO - Turning it ON makes the picture darker but still bad and turning it OFF does nothing so I left it unchanged.

I noticed on YT that there used to be SDR to HDR option but it's not in the settings anymore. I assume this would fix the problem but they removed it for some reason.

TL;DR: I don't want to use HDR on Netflix and other VOD's - is it possible?

Transfer exact setup of nvidia shield tv to another nvidia shield tv

I just spent an afternoon getting my new Nvidia shield TV pro setup. Modified adb settings, set up custom launcher, signed into apps, styling, button remappings, ect.

I have a Nvidia shield TV (same 2019 generation, but not the pro) that i'd like to setup identically. What would be the easiest method for cloning the settings from my configured nvidia shield tv pro to the other nvidia shield tv?

Disney+ Error Code 42

-RESOLVED-

u/juzmafia suggested I turn off IPv6 in network settings and I was able to sign in.

———

I am getting Error Code 42 from Disney+ on both my Sony A80J and my Shield Pro.

I have reset my network, unplugged all devices, uninstalled and reinstalled Disney+.

Disney support is telling me it’s a known issue but I can’t find anyone else having this problem online.

Am I alone or has anyone resolved this?

Thanks in advance!

Google Home commands for switching Philips Android TV input to analog antenna?

So I have a specific thing I want to do with my Philips 55PUS 7406/12: I want to have a routine in which I give a voice command, and the TV switches on and switches to the analog antenna input.

The reason: my apartment building's intercom system is messed up, so if someone rings the lobby door, I can't call down to see who it is. However, there's a door camera that broadcasts to an analog TV channel over short range so my TV can pick it up and I can see who's at the door. (I'd like it quickly because I'm often not in the same room as the TV, and by the time I run into the living room, dig up the remote, turn on the TV, and switch the input, the courier at the door may have already decided that I'm not there.)

The TV's Google Assistant (which I have to use through my phone and Google Home and the Android TV remote) can switch to an HDMI input easily enough, but it keeps getting confused when I tell it to switch to the ATV input - it keeps on assuming I'm doing a web search, or looking for a channel on YouTube.

In olden days, I would have been able to set this up with my Harmony remote, but the Harmony hub doesn't seem to speak the same language as the new TV, and I can't set a discrete input. Amazon Alexa control isn't an option because I can't put the client app on the TV (not available here).

I just need two steps: turn on the TV (which is easy enough) and tell the Philips TV to set its input to ATV (which has me tearing my hair out and cursing).

Any ideas? Or somewhere I'd be better off posting this question?

Cheap Gamepad Help

Hello,

I bought two cheap snes style USB controllers to have as backups to play emulators on Android TV.

They work fine on PC, and Android Phone, but not on Android TV (TD Systems with android 9) as the tv doesn't seem to recognise some of the buttons.

Is there anything I can do to make them work or should I just return them? Do you have any other reccomendations?

is Android TV 9 or 10 good enough?

Limited options of what I can buy. The only TVs here for affordables prices are ones with Android 9 or 10. If it's between 9 or 10, is it worth it to pay a little more for 10 or are 9 and 10 pretty much the same with 10 only having design and useless features for example. What do you suggest? Or should I pay a lot more for a tv with 11?

Google TV dongle and Harmony remotes.

Weird question. Is there any way for a non-Bluetooth Harmony remote (a 700 in this case) to control a Chromecast with Google TV dongle? I have two CCWGTV units and am using my Harmony Elite with the hub to control one and it works great, but that pairs over Bluetooth.

I’m assuming the only way would be a device that accepts IR signals and converts to Bluetooth. I actually have a Harmony adapter for the PS3 that does that, but I’m seriously doubting that would do anything.

Any suggestions?

Can't turn on WiFi on my Sony TV

Per title, my TV's (KDL-43W800G. Sony and their naming scheme, ugh) WiFi is always off. If I try turning it on, it will wait for 5 seconds before turning itself off again. I've searched a lot online and I've tried the following solution:

  • Restart the TV
  • Automatic and static IP config
  • Setting correct date & time
  • Factory reset
  • Update to the latest OS version

but none works so far. I'm beginning to suspect that this is a hardware problem as it never had this problem before. For now I will stick to using Ethernet. Appreciate it if anyone can come up with a solution. Thanks.
