Mi box taking a dump.

Bought the mi box s bout a month and a half ago. Everything was great. Got all the apps I needed. No lag on playing or switching apps. Now recently it’s been taking a big ole dump when I try to do things. YouTube, ESPN, HBO, casting from phone has just been terrible. Pretty much have to restart it a few times and hope if it works with out a lag. Any suggestions how to fix this.

I have been turning it off when not using it recently. Since I have Xfinity in Chicago with a TB data cap. But still

Force Phone App over AndroidTV version (shared APK)

Hello,

Does anybody know how to force launch a Phone App over the AndroidTV app ?

It's Mycanal, they share the same APK for both mobile/tablet and AndroidTV.

I'm on ATVexperience 2FF on s905w, with root access, the AndroidTV version of Mycanal does not work properly on it, but the phone version works well (at least on the original ROM).

Thanks for your help.

PS4 controller connected with USB on Mibox

Hello all,

I prefer using a wired connection rather bluetooth cos this controller is used for several devices. I have no problem with my Xbox One controller, but when I connected me PS4 controller then I have no sound at all on the TV. And I didn't find any settings about that. The Mibox consider the PS4 controller as a headphone or something and I'd to like to know how to deal with that.

I know it will work with Bluetooth but I want to know if it can be used with a USB connection.

Horrible banding since day one with the shield. Even on menu backgrounds.

I have two shields (gen 1 and gen 2)on two different 4k tv’s.

All hdmi. Both wired with etherent to home network.

None of that shoukd matter though because the banding happens even on the main menus.

Anyone else have this issue???

Mobile app on Android TV?

Hi,I have a TV streaming app for Android (part of my Internet + TV subscription) for a phone called PODA.tv, but it't for mobile (and tablet) only, my neighbor who is a foreigner has Mi Box with Android TV, I downloaded the APK using Downloader for Android TV and installed the APK manually as it does not show in Google Play store; however, after installation, I can open the app, it works quite well (navigation sucks but whatever), however once I exit the app, it's nowhere to be found in Application menu on the Mi Box, so I was wondering if there may be some clever trick how to make this app show app in the application menu, instead of reinstalling the app every now and then I want to launch the app?

I'm at a lose with my TV. No content will play properly.

I have a 2017 Sony 850e. Since last night, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Youtube either refuse to play, or play and have 0 audio. I have tested these services on other devices and they all work perfectly fine. I've done extensive troubleshooting such as:

-Rebooted TV

-Factory reset TV

-Rebooted router/modem

-Made sure all apps are up to date

-Replicated issue on wired and wireless

-Checked date/time

-Tried regular casting (fails too)

Nothing seems to help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mi Box S Chromecast isn't working

I am wondering if it was because it just doesn't cast that good via Chrome on Android or if it is because of the recent update I did. I bought this primarily to cast things but if it can't cast vids it is not of use.

Sideloading on a Sony Android TV

The Google play on my Sony TV is very limited. I would like to be able to use Google Chrome but it doesn't exist in Google Play on this TV.

Can anyone please explain how I can load Chrome? I'm not sure how to sideload without a browser. I know there are other methods.

Thanks.

My impressions of Remotes for the Nvidia Shield

I, like most of you I think, am generally not satisfied with the default remote for the Shield. Though honestly just having physical buttons for volume would solve most of my issues, I just never liked the whole package. It was frequently lost, felt like a toy, it seems it would wake the TV just by picking it up (super annoying with kids). Also managing the battery life never felt reliable. In theory the coin battery should last while but I frequently swapped it out because it would seemingly just not work and I'd have to use the garbage Android app or worse, the clunky physical TV remote that sort of worked.

But I digress...

Before I picked up the Logitech I tried the WeChip G20 (v2) and the Rii Fly Mouse.

WeChip G20

Initial impressions were great. It felt solid and overall I liked the larger size and button array. I didn't need anything too fancy so price point was perfect. First major issue was lack of CEC volume controls. I thought that maybe maxing out the TV volume and sticking with the software volume would be fine but unfortunately there are just two few steps in Android's volume for that to be acceptable. Plus my TV has a "on" noise that was earth shattering at full volume. The other nitpick is for the life of me, across 4 tv/remotes, I could not get the remote to learn the power for my TV. So while I could turn the shield on and off which could also take care of my TV's power, the one CEC feature of the remote was not working. Ultimately it left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I sent it back.

Rii Fly

Same thing as the WeChip. First impressions were awesome. I thought the keyboard would be a nuisance or novelty but it ended up being really helpful in apps like YouTube. It also added such a satisfying amount of weight to the remote. All the buttons in red are CEC enabled. However it was the same story as the WeChip. Most of the directions are poorly translated or for a slightly different model. Forums and Google weren't much help either. I couldn't get it to learn any IR functions across any tv/remote combinations.

Logitech Harmony

I picked up this on sale for $40. So please take that amount into consideration when reading this.

First impressions blew me away. The remote felt perfect. It has a soft rubberized bottom that allows it to stay put on an angled couch cushion. It sounds stupid but this means when you put it next to you it isn't going to slide its way into the abyss (like the Shield remote does). The setup process was quick and painless and the app is significantly nicer than Nvidia's or Android's generic remote app.

Values adds (for me)

I have SmartThings with several devices across the house and by the end of next year I hope to have all light switches converted to smart ones. With this consideration being able to setup an "activity" that will turn on the TV and dim surrounding lights is amazing. If you have a soundbar, or more complex receiver setup, the Logitech remote has a ton of compatibility to make sure everything comes on and is switched to the proper mode.

Conclusion

If you just want a better remote and have a newer TV (less than probably 5 years old) then I would highly recommend the Rii Fly Mouse first. Its a big upgrade if you get the CEC controls to work for such a small amount of money. If you have anything more than just a TV or will in the near future, the $40 (current price) premium is well worth it.

I'm happy to answer any questions about it. I couldn't find a post like this when I was looking for remotes so hopefully this can help other people out.

Need help with car setup

Hello all,

I am installing an overhead flip down display in the car to keep the kids busy. They have their own tablets but it becomes too much of a chore to constantly help them find videos and games.

Now the display I bought has an HDMI port so I'm trying to figure out the appropriate kit to install. My kids are used to the NVIDIA Shield so the leanback launcher is familiar. However there won't always be wifi available so will need to be able to have offline videos as well. I also don't want to have a large box but ideally just a dongle so no wires are hanging around, but I'm flexible here. So here's my ideal wishlist, would appreciate help figuring out what device I should get.

  1. Android TV OS / Leanback Launcher
  2. Apps for streaming when there is WiFi
  3. Offline video for most of the time with no wifi
    1. It needs expandable storage
    2. Ideally I can manage this same as my phone and download videos for offline view within the respective app (Vudu, Netflix, Google Play). This is where true Android TV OS would probably come up short as I don't think that option exists in ATV apps as they're meant to be used with Wifi. I know I can use Plex/Kodi, but kids aren't familiar with navigating those apps.
  4. If possible, casting when there is NO wifi from my phone/device (DLNA, Miracast?)
  5. Dongle form factor with USB supplied power.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Chromecast on Mibox S stopped working after switching routers

Hi, I have a Mi Box S with a built-in chromecast that I use for casting videos that I shot from my phone. I was having network problems and decided to switch to Mi Box router 4c. Phone can't detect chromecast ever since. Now, I have read some people having Chromecast issues with their Mi Box S and tried most of the solutions suggested but I just can't get it to work. Is it just a coincidence or do I have to check firewall settings or something on my router? Thanks in advance!
