Mi box taking a dump.

by rappdizzle

Bought the mi box s bout a month and a half ago. Everything was great. Got all the apps I needed. No lag on playing or switching apps. Now recently it’s been taking a big ole dump when I try to do things. YouTube, ESPN, HBO, casting from phone has just been terrible. Pretty much have to restart it a few times and hope if it works with out a lag. Any suggestions how to fix this.

I have been turning it off when not using it recently. Since I have Xfinity in Chicago with a TB data cap. But still

It's probably impossible for anyone to accurately diagnose the issue over the internet but it could possibly be one or more of the apps you have installed. If it was me, I'd try factory resetting the box, then gradually installing apps over the space of a couple of weeks (starting with the apps I use the most) and seeing if the performance degrades at any point.

This worked for me. All the lags and struggles that mibox suffers are gone so h this solution. The box wakes up with remote control (at first attempt) and with casting, no more reboot before use... You can take a chance with this

Mine chokes now on SlingTV. I'm fed up with it and I'm going to replace it with another Shield.

I bought two Mibox 3s last Christmas, one for me and one for my father in law. Mine has been running great without issues. All I have on it is Smart Youtube TV, Netflix, Kodi, and recently Amazon Prime Video. No real issues.

My father in law's Mibox was running okay until recently when he got some iptv service and the app that you use to watch it. Now almost every time you put the Mibox to sleep and wake it up, it's INSANELY slow and laggy. Even getting it to reboot can take a while. So yeah I would definitely recommend a factory reset, and also look for all the system updates you can find.

Check your video resolution settings. You might be running it at 24hz as opposed to 60hz which all displays support. It's a fairly common problem since the auto resolution is STILL buggy.

  1. Stop turning the Mi Box off, it mobile based ARM chipset uses very little power even when left on 24x7
  2. Use the following guide to make sure you Mi Box never sleeps:
