What I want is to basically take my firestick and sideload Firefox or some other browser with Adblock, so when I want I can go to streaming sites for shows and sports by using a wireless keyboard to type stuff in. I also want to keep the regular remote because it's easy to use for my girlfriend to use to go to the regular apps.

It used to be simple, either using the volume buttons or the circular slider of the device in the Google Home App. Now, none works. I have a cryptic incomplete pop-up message saying "to control this device volume with your phone..." and that's all.

Is it too much to ask to use my Google phone to control my Google TV?

As title states, I was trying to download Sling TV and DirecTV Stream, but they don’t even show up on the app store. Even when I do like a voice search, the listing comes up, but it says “this item isn’t available in your country”

I have a small TV I'd like to wall mount and have a constant screen saver of photos I have uploaded to Google photos, or if there is another way to have a constant photo screensaver with an other app/storage device?

I was going to buy myself another Google TV with Chromecast but I felt like I was paying too much for a glorified photo viewer.

I have a family member offering me a free Roku Smart Soundbar. I just bought a TCL 5 Series Google TV and really like the Google TV interface better than Roku. Can I use the Roku Smart Soundbar strictly for sound with my TV w/o dealing with the Roku interface? As well, would I be able to control the volume of the soundbar with my TCL/Google remote if the soundbar is plugged into the TV?

I have a Hisense TV with AndroidTV 10 internal OS. Does anyone know of an ADB command to change Picture Modes? There is probably variation between TV brands with AndroidTV. But does anyone know of an ADB command on any TV brand (TCL, Xiaomi, Sony, Spectre, Phillips, etc)? It might give me a starting point.

I suspect the command would be called through com.android.settings or whatever the settings package is called.

I’ve recently purchased 5 top end devices

2 shield pros 1 shield tube 3 google chrome casts with google tv 2 mi box pros

After testing these devices with movies, popcorntime, emulation (n64, psx) general navigation and solving device limitations (google tv fat32 usbs vs shield ntfs)

I’ve come to a conclusion that I’ve returned all devices besides the chromecast google tv.

Why? Firstly the voice controls on it make even the shield seem haphazardly used, it’s not as seamless on any other device even with special keyboards and tweaks. Google does this the best by far.

Second, the shield is much buggier via the ccgtv that both of the shields have issues with initial setup, bugs and overall problems a 200 dollar device shouldn’t. It’s a massive complaint I have and I can repeat and replicate the problem.

The mi box we won’t talk about them; to be honest their the bottom of the ladder here.

Overall after testing all devices, with torrenting, popcorntime, emulation I have to say the sheild seems 10-15% better vs the google tv in n64 and psx.

However, I feel the google tv with a usb off dongle and a usb stick without any additional power supply beyond the stock device it works perfectly.

At the end of the day I don’t think there’s any better value device and until the shield gets a higher end chip (cough tegra 2012 technology) it’s not worth it.

It badly needs a refresh to compete today. I also want to note that using a dex compatible tablet with the google tv allows for higher end emulation, storage workarounds etc.

Google tv is my conclusion the best device in 2021 more so on sale.

I have been using it for a week and one thing that bugs me is....

The main screen shows programs I watch so I click on it and the program is locked. So I then have to go into the relevant app and choose the program. Why doesn't Google look to see if I have access to a program from one of my media apps and grant access

I’m trying to download the Apple TV app on my Android TV, but I can’t. I get an error message that reads, “Your device isn’t compatible with this version.” I just updated the OS, so I don’t think that’s the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

This is my first Android TV and I was unpleasantly surprised to discover that Android TV doesn't allow you to install Google Drive from Google store.

I tried to access to it through some file manager apps like X-plore but it didn't work.

Since the latest updates to CC-GTV it has started freezing. To be specific the remote (all remotes) no long work, none of the buttons on the remote get any reaction from the system. This appears to happen when you don't touch the remote for an hour or so.

I have a Google Nest Mini and a TCL 4 Series TV with Android OS with built-in Chromecast v1.56 when I give the voice command (to the mini) to "play <Netflix movie> from Netflix on The TV" it responds with; "Sorry I can't play Netflix on Android TV yet" Google Home detects the device, I can give voice command for other types of services like YouTube and music they play fine on the TV, just not Netflix. And get this if I use the remote voice controls to start Netflix and then use the Mini to STOP the broadcast that works! so it does communicate in some fashion. Is this a limitation of the Mini or the TCL TV or is something wrong?

I have an apple tv in another room in the house and through some hacks, with homebridge I get live video notifications of motion displayed in a pop-up. Is it possible to do this on android tv? I recently got a sony tv and I've been really impressed with the built-in android tv and it's openness. Its the first time Ive actually had a good time with a tv's built in os.

I've purchased 3 Google Chromecasts with Google TV since October. I returned the first two because of what I thought were hardware defects. Now the third one is doing exactly the same as the first two did. Very basic setup on a bedroom TV with basic apps. Here's what happens every time:

1. Chromecast is set up successfully and the first 3 weeks or so all is good.

2. I try to watch TV and there are strange video artifacts (stripes, blocks on the home screen), also the home screen navigation stops working properly and I can't select 'Settings'.

3. No choice at this point but to re-boot by unplugging power.

4. Upon re-boot I get an immediate message that there is no WiFi connection. When I go to Settings and look at network connections the WiFi is active but I have "limited connectivity". Nothing works at this point. Even when I switch to other access points in my house I have "limited connectivity" and no internet.

I can re-set the device to factory defaults at this point, which fixes things, but in a few days the cycle repeats starting with step 2 above.

Seems obvious that I'm having issues with the devices themselves, but what's causing this over and over??? The Chromecasts are plugged directly into the TV, and directly into a power bar behind the TV. That's it.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. There's obviously not much point in returning this for a 4th replacement. Why are these failing?

Last week I purchased an Nvidia Shield Pro and I just got it setup with some kid friendly games for my 4 and 9 year old.

I am a game developer (built my own c++ game engine) and I'm interested in putting my games on the TV. Can anyone suggest tutorials or resources to help me port my games to the TV? Note I have no android experience. I'm only experienced with JavaScript, WebGL, OpenGL, Unreal Engine, and C++ development.

My tv suddenly started to have pixelated menu, freezing on each step. I've installed update s hoping it's gonna save the problem. After that I've done hard factory reset twice but it still not working properly.

1. What are my options? It's obvious a software problem but the factory reset kept the latest updates. Should I try reinstall latest update by USB?(because it says updates up to date). Should I try to downgrade?

2. How could I still use it to cast without letting it use tv apps. Because basic yt, Netflix are freezing.

So, I am assuming this would work much like it would on an android phone. You can find a launcher in the app store, or find a 3rd party apk to install (if you trust it).

My questions is whether or not this has any effect on the responsiveness of the TV.

I have a Hisense 55H8F which has gotten incredibly slow despite the setting changes I make. Would a new launcher change anything, or would it take up some of the already sparse RAM/CPU power?
