I'll put up with it for now, but if it continues I might sideload a third party launcher. Have to say, I don't mind the Google movie/TV recommendations - but if this continues, I won't want to play ball.
on my shield I sideloaded the June 1, 2020, build 1.0.373873361-6996 apk. This is before they added all the ads/watch with me junk. Much more enjoyable.

Shield user here, I block androidtvwatsonfe-pa.googleapis.com and androidtvchannels-pa.googleapis.com on my router and then cleared cache and data for "Android TV Home" app and did a reboot. After that I've never seen an ad besides just reminding me about Youtube, Play Store, and Play Movies (those exact three apps, not any content from within them) at the top of the launcher, which I'm perfectly fine with

Its the issue that the ads makes the homescreen a bit sluggish...on a chromecast googletv it matters!
