Browser that shows sites in desktop mode?

I’ve tried out both Chrome and Firefox on my NVidia Shield (with wireless keyboard and mouse). They both work pretty well but always show the mobile version of a site if one exists. I’d much rather always load the desktop version, but “request desktop site” does nothing and changing the user agent in Firefox didn’t work either. so clearly there’s something deeper at work.

Has anyone found the magic config flag or other browser entirely that’ll let me browse as if I’m on a desktop machine?

How to clear all running applications with a button?

I have a MI Box S with the android tv 9, but I couldn't find a way to "clear all" running application on this device. All I can do is to go to info section of each app and click on "Force Stop".

I also installed "button mapper" app, but there is not a "clear all" action in its options.

Is there any way to clear all running apps with a single action on this device and android tv 10?

Trying to set up video conference on sony android tv, doesn't recognize USB camera

So I've been trying to make my Sony xg9505/x905g android tv work with trueconf for video conferencing. It works well setting up the calls but obviously needs a camera for video calls. I got the Logitech c930e which is recommended by trueconf and tried to set up the call but it didn't recognize the camera. I think this is a TV issue, not a trueconf issue. What's also interesting is that the TV does recognize the camera's microphone, it just refuses to work with the camera itself. Does anyone here have any experience with this sort of setup?

Android tv not able to detect hdmi input after latest update

This issue has been fixed thanks to u/hockerz, you will find an edit at the bottom of this post that explains how to fix your issue

I have a Xiaomi mi laser projector running android tv, today an update started (without even asking permission).

After that I had some problem with the audio from the hdmi input, after a while of messing arounf with no success I turned everything off and came back some hours later.

At this point not only I don't have audio but also video is missing.

The issue is not in the cable or the source of the hdmi (i tested them and those are not the problem)

I even whent for a factory reset with no luck. Has anyone experenced this?

[Edit] I posted a followup to this that you can check up here I would suggest you to post any updates there so we can gather informations in a single spot

[Edit 2] Here is the step by step guide on how to fix this issue, the fix comes from u/hockerz that contacted xiaomi's support. I take no responsibility for any damage to your belongings, here there is just what I did and what worked for me.

What you need:

  1. A pc
  2. A USB stick bigger than 1 gb
  3. Your projector and your remote

How to prepare the usb stick:

  1. Plug in the usb stick
  2. Format the usb stick to fat32 ( should be the default format option)
  3. Download the files from here
  4. Put the 2 files you have downloaded ( formovie_update-anglee and update-anglee.zip) in the root directory of your usb stick (the rood directory is the first directory you see when you open the usb stick)
  5. Eject the usb stick

How to update the projector:

  1. Unplug the power cable from the projector (support only mentioned to unplug the powercable, I unplugged everything for good measure)
  2. Remove the batteries from the remote
  3. Plug the usb stick in the back of the projector
  4. Press and hold the "Enter" and "Home" button ( this two buttons )
  5. Plug the power cable in and keep pressing the buttons

The projector should now be in update mode, you should see the update bar moving, you can now relase the two buttons

  1. When the update bar is complete the projector will reboot, As soon as you hear the projector powering off unplug the usb stick. This step is not mentioned by the support but when I left the usb stick plugged in the projector kept not working, so I redid the whole procedure and removed the usb stick as soon as I heard the projector powering off7) Now you will have to set up the projector as it was new and the external sources should be working

External Hard Drive, Sleep Mode, noise

Hello! Ive bought a Mibox for my Bedroom. Since I wanted to use it as a Media Player I connected an external Hard drive to it. So far so good. But when i turn off the Mibox (sleep Mode), The Mibox keeps the Hard drive "alive" - so about every 30 seconds the Hard drive starts and makes this typical "booting" noise.

Do you know how I could fix this Problem? Is there Any way to shutdown the Mibox?? I cant use a USB stick (capacity).. Thx!

Is it possible to block VOD ads on youtubeTV on androidTV?

So YoutubeTV has injected non-skippable ads on VOD catalog content (not DVR recorded stuff), but when playing YoutubeTV in a PC browser with ublock origin those ads are completely blocked and skipped like they are on regular Youtube.

Since AndroidTV is pretty much open, and you can sideload APK's, im wondering if there is a way to block the YoutubeTV VOD ads via DNS or some other method? Google search came up with nothing, and discussion of blocking ads is not permitted in the YoutubeTV sub.

TCL DP660 with Oreo will not stay in standby

I have had this TV for about a year now. I like the idea of having access to the Play Store (VLC, Steam Link etc.) it is a little rough around the edges.

The biggest problem is the long cold starts. Is this a problem with AndroidTV or Smart TVs in general?

As a workaround I have enabled "Fast start". Problem is that if I wake it after sleeping for 12-24 hours it often boots up from the beginning anyway. Is this a fixable problem? Is it specific to TCL or this a general problem with AndroidTV?

Samsung TV remote and Xiaomi Mi Box

Hey guys!

I have a this Samsung remote for my TV:

https://preview.redd.it/vj3xfi6vq5b41.png?width=168&format=png&auto=webp&s=df9d7f420d683fe2cf7f8ef245265a633d13bc0c

As I understand, it's not possible to set the Xiaomi remote to turn the TV on and off. So I tried to set the Samsung remote to control the Mi Box by enabling HDMI-CEC. It actually worked OK, but I still have two problems I wondered if you could help me solve:

  1. The Samsung remote turns of the Mi box if I turn off the TV, but then when I turn the TV back on, it doesn't turn on the Mi Box, and the only way to turn it on is through its original remote. Anybody knows if there's a way to fix that?
  2. almost all of the buttons are identical between the TV remote and the xiaomi remote, however, there's one crucial button missing - The circle button that sends you back to the main menu. Anybody knows of there's some kind of replacement for it, or a different way to get back to main menu?

Thank you!

AndroidTV, Mibox & Nvidia Shield are not really 4k !

Good morning, everybody.

After various tests, I just found out that the AndroidTv boxes (especially the Mibox S and Nvidia Shield for what I tested anyway) didn't really have 4K-UHD with their HDMI interface.

Indeed, I just bought a 4K Wemax A300 video projector. So I did some calibration tests.

All my calibration tests on the stitching (4K or not) have been done from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chuEXqVBGxE

You can see a download link at the bottom of this post.

To quickly explain how the benchmark work :

The lines in the videos are thin and close together. There are 9 lines (or columns). As long as you can distinguish the 9 lines, the display is good. The number you see has to be multiplied by 100 to get the total number of lines. So if at 20 I always distinguish the 9 lines. That means that my display can at least display 2000 lines of pixels. I remind you that the UHD 4k is 3840 columns and 2160 lines.

(I'm sorry, my pictures aren't very clear. I only have a smartphone to take the pictures. But good-looking or not, they're enough to prove my point.)

With the same settings, the same HDMI-output and with the same HDMI cable, I get different results, while all my players are supposed to be 4K.

So on this video :

  • With the PC I have the 2000 horizontal lines.

http://imgbox.com/RJaOaO5p

http://imgbox.com/ar1QHKTF

http://imgbox.com/0Bp5zNi8

On this one there are a few lines but they are difficult to distinguish : http://imgbox.com/gygHqU5l

  • With the MiBox S and the Nvidia Shield, I only have about 1100 horizontal lines (well like a 1080p system...) and then it gets blurred.

http://imgbox.com/LnF2JTbQ

http://imgbox.com/qyxviSdO

On this one, there is no line at all : http://imgbox.com/R2MHlNGw

  • Directly from the Wemax A300 I have the 2000 horizontal lines without it becoming blurred.

http://imgbox.com/U1a5Ld8v

http://imgbox.com/KCByYriH

On this one there are a few lines but they are difficult to distinguish : http://imgbox.com/hzvhYW5J

I have of course in the parameters of Mibox S and the Nvidia Shield put in parameter 4K-60hz, and I also did the tests in 4K-30hz and 4K-24hz and 4K-50hz with always the same result.

So my conclusion is that at least the Mibox S and the Nvidia Shield don't send true 4K, but only 1080p.

Maybe it's my equipment that is faulty, or something I missed.

If not, I make the hypothesis that AndroidTV is the cause of the problem and not the hardware.

That would mean that AndroidTV doesn't send real 4K with its HDMI interface.

Can you also check at home?

Here's the downloadable link to the video :

http://www.filedropper.com/mireuhdh264

http://www.filedropper.com/sharpnessoverscanhdr10

If someone can test with the new shield and the Fire TV 4K too. If we get the same results with these boxes, I think we can seriously deduce that it's Android TV that badly handles 4K in HDMI output.
