I have been using one of these with kodi for some time and it sometimes struggles pretty bad. Recently upgraded my TV to 4K and got some 4K content to stream and its almost unusable. Anyone else have this issue. I have a wired connection too.

The only Android TV Device I Know of with Gigabit LAN is the NVIDIA Shield.
That is exactly what you need for high bitrate 4K streaming, otherwise use USB HDD / stick.
Mi Box owners usually get a Ugreen USB3 > Gigabit LAN adapter to add such networking capabilities.
