Netflix and google assistant voice controls

Is this supposed to work?

I have assistant on TV, but I actually use a "smart" speaker, because it's always listening and so much easier to use.

if i say:

hey google, play XY on netflix on TV", does this generally work?

I does not work on my Philips PUS7304. So I am not sure if it's up to philips, or just a general limitation.

Additionally, I can't turn off/on TV. It also says that this is unsupported.

PS: flairs are really limited here. there is no right choice here.

Mi box s ethernet problem

Hello there I am having problems with my mi box s it feels like 50€ went to waste, it lags wifi disconnects randomly and it doesnt have natural Ethernet port making it difficult to work smoothly. Anyways, back to my problem I bought this usb hub with ethernet connection It worked fine at the beginning unfortunately some problems occurred I am not sure if it was because I changed some settings in developer options in order to prevent it from lagging but it gives me an error at the homescreen saying that ethernet is not connected is there any settings I could change so I can solve it?

Ethernet Setup Help Troubleshooting

I have the Mi Box S on Android 9 (no issues except with ADB - different problem)

I have the Ugreen Gigabit Adapter, it's recognized flawlessly but is giving me a slower speed than using wifi (90 mbps vs 120 mbps). This is directly into the *modem* (my ISP has a 2-in-1 modem router).

My internet is 300 fiber so those speeds are abysmal. I realize that the Mi Box is USB 2.0 but c'mon, why so slow?

Only thing I can think of is a slow ethernet cable (Cat5e) but everything else in my house is on that cable and there are no issues achieving peak speeds.

Any troubleshooting I could do?

Verizon Stream TV

Just got my Verizon Stream TV box today. It was an upgrade for my old and slow Nexus Player.

It was way faster than the Nexus Player. I noticed this immediately.

I like that the included remote also controls my TV, and setting it up was as quick as the Stream TV performing a scan of my TV hardware.

Every app loades quickly and all videos looked great.

I tested YouTube, Google Play movies, Netflix, Hulu, Plex and Amazon Prime Video

My one small gripe is the Verizon suggested channel that cannot be moved. Other than that, there was no bloatware to be found. This thing is nearly as stock as my Nexus Player and it runs Android 9.

I almost got a Mi Box until I read all the complaints about Android 9. I then decided to save up for a Shield, but I ultimately sprung for this as it was much cheaper, and they added Netflix support.

All in all I give this a 9/10. Anyone in the market for a new Android TV device, that doesn't want to pay $200 for a Shield, the Verizon Stream TV is a great buy

Dirt cheap Mi Box Ss the real deal?

I've seen some Mi Box Ss going for dirt cheap on wish.com and from Chinese sellers on eBay (<£15). Are these legitimate? Why are they so cheap? They go for £40-£60 from sellers here in the UK.

Can a Xiaomi Mi Box Suffice at playing 4k HDR on a Tv?

I read a lot of contradictory opinions about whether the Mi box can effectively play 4k HDR content on Tvs. For the record, my Tv is a Panasonic oled, and the Mi box would be wired to a 3.0 usb external ssd.

What is your opinion? Can a MI box handle 4k or not?

Is there an alternative like the TV app on Apple TV for Anadroid TV?

So I was wondering if there is something similar like the TV app on Apple TV, but for Android TV?

I really like to have a streaming aggregator that collects all my favourite streaming services in one place, and the "Up Next" function in the top shelf that gives me a personal feed with my tv shows and notifications when there is a new episode for the tv shows that I follow directly on the Home Screen.

And how practical it is to play the new episode from the Home screen, so you don't have to start the app every time there is something new, and the possibility to search everything in one place and add it to my list, I have never really tried Android TV, so I was curious if there is something similar to this or if this is something unique that just Apple TV has?

Mi Box advise.

I've heard that there's been some problems with the Mi Box S software. Were they stable with Android 8.1? If so, can you stop the update push? I want to put a few boxes in my spare bedrooms with Tivimate and have Netflix, Prime Video available for guests. Otherwise no plans for Kodi or anything heavy.

New android tv or nvidia shield?

Hey peoples,

I'm struggling with this decision.

The TV is an 8-10 year old HD ready Finlux TV and looks quite dated with huge bezels etc. The room it's in is being refurbed and would seem like a good idea to have a new shiny TV to go with the new room...however I was planning on just getting an nvidia shield connected to said old TV. The wife surprisingly gave me permission to update my old TV making my decision harder.

Usage wise, mainly streaming from my plex gaming pc/server. But I'd also quite like the option to remote play steam to this tv for casual gaming. Am I expecting too much on an android tv to do this? Or just stick with the old TV and a shield?

Thanks!

Xiaomi MI TV BOX S and external 2 TB hard drive, cant turn it off?

I have been reading some comments about Xiaomi MI TV BOX S users and there seems to a slight problem with external hard drives.

Would i need to get something like this:

https://www.amazon.es/dp/B00JX1ZS5O/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B00JX1ZS5O&pd_rd_w=PhqbL&pf_rd_p=f0815c89-d195-4bd5-89fe-99dc61984993&pd_rd_wg=GWsfg&pf_rd_r=VQ67TBYMMSYXVSTEMKQX&pd_rd_r=b55705f7-1fe7-4798-bf82-55a0575a90d6&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyN1dFNFlLRFI0SFFBJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjU0NTEzMTM1MzRLOVVBRTcxUiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMjU4NzgwMVdaMDlCQ01NSTlWJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Asking because by the info ive gathered is that even if the MI TV box is in sleep mode it will keep on the external hard drive running (2TB external drive).

This is something i would like to prevent, everything (TV box,tv,etc) would be plugged to a strip,so im wondering.

when my pops goes to bed or we leave the house,if i turn off the MI TV BOX S,then the tv and then the switch on the strip would that damage the hard drive?

im kinda lost when it comes to this, dont want to keep on turning off improperly the external hard drive because that would lead to corrupt files or just plain breaking the external hard drive right?

only solution ive seen is to use one of the items i linked before,so i would just press the button on the device and that would turn off ''properly'' the external hard drive?

thanks in advance for the help.

Need to connect Android tv to stereo via chromecast

Okay, so let me try to explain. I just bought a Chromecast and attached it to my home stereo. Works great, Google home app sees it. I have a Android TV with Chromecast built in. I want to create a speaker group between the tv and the stereo, so as I'm watching TV the sound comes through the stereo. Google support says that this is not possible because the built in Chromecast is only a "partial chromecast" and won't see it as a speaker.

Anyway to get around this?

Capture old 8mm video recording on Android tv

Hello all First of all, I really hope my post does not violate rules and does not involve illegal topics, but I really am inexperienced about this kind of topics.

Long story short, we found some old 8mm tapes of old family events, and we managed to connect the (barely functional) camcorder and show them in our tcl Android TV, using the coaxial cable (antenna cable). We would really like to capture the recordings in digital format, and I was wondering if there is any type of apps/software tool for screen capturing from the TV.

In a sense, I'd expect that such tool wouldn't exist, since otherwise people could record from antenna anything that is received, but again I don't really know much about the field and maybe such tools exist and they block pirating proprietary content via encryption. I'm not even 100% sure this is the right place to ask, but any help/suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot in any case!

Voice command for selecting HDMI input?

I have a Philip's Android TV on a network with Google Home devices. My Sky Q satellite box is plugged into HDMI 4. What is the voice command to make the TV select the HDMI input? I can turn the TV off/on, open Netflix, play youtube videos... but can't seem to find the right sequence of words to just watch TV.

Edit: So the range of commands that the TV recognises differs completely if there is casting going on. So if I am casting Paw Patrol on Netflix, the TV won't recognise many of the TV centric commands (but will happily accept cast related commands such as pause).

If I tell the TV to exit Netflix first, it goes back to recognising the full range of commands such as selecting HDMI inputs. It's as if the app running completely changes the device's profile. Especially Netflix.
