I've heard that there's been some problems with the Mi Box S software. Were they stable with Android 8.1? If so, can you stop the update push? I want to put a few boxes in my spare bedrooms with Tivimate and have Netflix, Prime Video available for guests. Otherwise no plans for Kodi or anything heavy.
My Mi Box is as used as a brick after upgrade. Plex does not play nice and it needs constant hard reboots.
Can this box be rooted. I searched online and did not find a clear answer. Thanks
Yes, I bought mine in November and I'm still on 8.1. Just turn off automatic updates and if the notification circle bothers you, you can turn off notifications for Google Play Services.
Thanks for the great info everyone. It sounds like most of the issues there have been are not bricking the devices. Anything else I can recover from.

I haven't had issues with mine, and I've had it for a month. HOWEVER: I factory reset the device when it arrived. Updated the OS the the latest version. Factory reset it again, then started setting it up.
I haven't had any problems yet. I just miss changing the launcher. The Android TV home is a trash home screen.
You won't get Prime video without upgrading to pie tho.
I did the upgrade and i have no issue. people recommend to do a factory reset after installing the update but i couldn't be bothered setting everything back up, so i just left it. 0 issues.
