Just bought a bnew Xiami mi box S with the walmart sale a few days ago.

I already had a mibox S before and it had major issues with Android 9 and HDhomerun prime.

So right now I have a mibox s with version 8 but the one that come in the box is with build 8.1.0 with build number OMP1.171019.011.588 - Security Patches are still from January 2019

When I do system upgrade, it wants to download Android 9 which I'm trying to avoid.

How can I update my mibox s to the latest 8.1.x without upgrading to 9?

Also, how can I remove the Android System upgrade in the notification. I don't want someone accidentally upgrading it.

EDIT: Success! Thanks everyone. I now have the May 2019 Security patches which is definitely better than January 2019. Also, the system seems smoother!

Only Issue I didn't have a USB A to A cable so I used my pixel phone charger (USB-C to USB-A) and it worked :D

I have the Sony XE8505 and today got a message that a new update is available. I did it and the OS changed a little bit here and there, the home screen looks different now. with the earlier version I could hold down the "Home" button to get a multitasking sort of view in which I could close all current apps. This wa suseful because if I had like 3-5 apps running at the same time (netflix, Youtube, tv, all still open) it slowed the TV down. So I made it my habit to always close apps in a regularly time.

With the new OS update I dont get this screen anymore when holding down the Home button on the remote, so does someone know how to do it now?

I have a set up where I want to have the same feed playing on multiple screens at the same time. What is the best way to go about doing this? Is it possible wirelessesly?

For instance, if I have a game on and I'm doing laundry, I have a TV upstairs and down stairs and in my office. If I start a stream down stairs and on the other two screens the streams are out of sync. I might miss some action as I move from room to room. What is the best way to remedy this so every device is on pace with the others?

Hi , What is the best way to download (non english or english)subtitles , than add them to our movies/series? I tried to dl from website like subscene , using puffin browsers-from my android tv box , but I get message “ it’s not supported “ . Reason I said non-english , because for english sub , I can open my video with vlc , and search for subs inside vlc , but it doesn’t show other languages.

I believe it should be kind of straightforward, but I cannot find an easy way. Thanks

I just got mine from Walmart. It is on Android 8.1. I want Dualshock 4 support but I am afraid of all of the bug concerns regarding the update. I heard a factory reset right after the update fixes these issues. Is this true? Will it fix ALL of the issues?

For example, I just started casting music to it, and because it has wake on LAN (MiBox S doesn't..) it turned my tv on, and then I was able to use the volume buttons on my phone and that command went to the Shield, which sent it to the remote which sent an IR command to my sonos soundbar to control that. I was very impressed the first time this happened

I have had a Sony Bravia XBR X900E 55-inch TV for just over a year now, and while it had mostly functioned fine up until recently, the interface seems to be no longer working properly.

In particular, some remote-control commands no longer do anything, such as "HOME" and "INPUT."

At first, I thought it might be a problem with the remote, even though most of the buttons still perform their function.

However, even when I navigate to the Input section of the on-screen UI, and select a different input [such as the TV broadcast receiver or the Blu-Ray player], it no longer actually switches to those inputs!

So it seems as if the interface is fighting me, refusing to recognize the concept of "HOME," "INPUT," and some other buttons. Has anyone experienced this problem before?

I figure that my option is to factory reset, or wait for the update for Android 9. I think it's on 8 right now. But I've been asked to get more immediate results. Perhaps the best action is to disable the smart functions somehow and get an NVidia Shield?

Hey guys! I recently got a Optoma P1 for my media room and the projector is amazing; but the software is subpar to say the least. The projector is not running a OEM version of Android so it does not have any way to use play store without flashing open gApps or something of the sort. I have tried just installing an APK of the Android TV launcher from apkhub and it shows up to choose as default home app but it makes no difference and it just goes back to the stock launcher. What's your suggestion to get the Android TV launcher or some other minimalistic launcher to work? Not having play store isint that big of a deal to me.

I've had my Mi Box 3 for a few years now. I have a Seiki 42 4k tv that will do 4k at 60hz and it has HDMI 2.0 ports, but I can only get the Mi Box to work at 4k30hz. I believe the tv is only 4:2:2.

At first I thought it was because of an older HDMI cable. I bought some 18gbps HDMI cables but when I switch to 4k60hz in the display settings, the screen flashes green and static in an alternating pattern.

I've powered off the box, tried plugging in the cable a few times, but it will only display at 4k30hz.

Any ideas?

I need the HEX code for the OK button. My universal remote does a long press instead of a short press. Philips support in Sweden are useless when I ask for the code. Have also tried teaching the command to my remote and this doesn't work. Does anyone have a good solution for this? Will he very thankful :)

hi all, I can add videos to my watch later playlist by long pressing the main button on my shield pro remote, but after I watch them there don't auto remove themselves and there doesn't seem to be any way for me to remove them through the interface?

I live in a rural area and recently got a wireless internet connection that is fast enough for 4K but has a bandwidth cap of 350 GB. anytime someone watches YouTube on the Android TV it will automatically start playing 4K if it's available, and obviously start using way too much data. I found if I cast YouTube using the built-in Chromecast it's limited to 1080 but the kids still watch the built in YouTube app without casting. I've went through all the settings and I cannot find anywhere that allows me to control the bandwidth, I can select 1080 or 720 on each individual video that plays but obviously the kids are not going to do that.

this kind of brings up a wider problem with all apps including prime video Netflix etc. none have any easy straightforward way to set the streaming resolution. Netflix allows low medium and high, unfortunately medium limits SD 480p and high is all the way up to 4K. not particularly useful.

Hello guys, I am trying to get rid of TV remote, I have CEC but it does not control TV volume. I read in other posts that this is possible but probably my Samsung TV does not support it. I got the G20S Air mouse remote which works great and have IR learning but only for power button.

Does anyone know any Android TV Bluetooth remote that supports more buttons for IR Learning?

I have a Mi BOX that I upgraded with the latest version of Android through the software updater. I moved it to another room and now I just get a black screen. I do not get a Android logo at all. I have tried hard resetting it to factory defaults and that did not work. I reached out to Mi Box Support who wants me to dig up a receipt, which I am unable to locate. Any tips on how to get this back up and running without tossing it out the window?

It's a 2018 model 4k, qled - 55PU something (can't recall exact model).

But it refuses to detect my headphones (Sennheiser Momentum 3). I can connect the remote, xbox controller etc.
The headphones work fine even on my 10 years old phone (some ancient Huawei).

I can leave it right next to TV, in pairing mode, let it scan and nothing.

Is this intentional/by design to save money or issue with Android TV/some config that limits bluetooth?

I do not say this lightly, as their screen and Bravia motion technology is very good, however their Android software implementation is absolutely terrible! They forgot to add the ability to connect USB-to-Ethernet adapters in their USB ports!??? Who does that in this day and age???

A friend tried 4 USB to ethernet devices on his TCL, ALL worked.

Another friend tried 2 USB to ethernet devices on his LG, WORKED!

Another tried 3 USB to ethernet devices on his Samsung, 2 of them WORKED!

I tried 8 USB to ethernet devices on my Sony AF9, NONE of them worked.

I wish I never jumped back into Sony land now, should have known they'd do stupid things like this with their devices, no wonder everyone is buying LG these days. At least I know where to go on the next upgrade this christmas.

If anyone knows of a workaround with Sony AF9, please do tell. Effectively I need a good 1GBit connection to the TV, unfortunately the wifi doesn't cut it due to interference and reduction in wifi speed, and the in-built 100mb (yes, really! 100Mbit old tech!) ethernet connection is a total joke.

I am using tcl uhd android tv and most of the time it wont connect to the wifi showing "disabled" or "saved",meanwhile other devices are working fine. I have checked there's no mac filter on it and tried forget network then reconnect but still i wont connect.

Does RX optical power has to do anthing with this? My router setting is showing -27.70dBm right now(Referred value:-27 to -8dBm by my ISP).should i contact my ISP or factory reset TV?

I have a TCL L43p2us it's an old tv of 2017 model . But nonetheless a big screen It's a smart tv with android Lollipop in it . And it's has TCL appstore, which is shit . But it has google playstore . But neither of the appstore have netflix . Tried aptoide store to download Netflix for android tv , but I got an error 100 could not start Netflix.

I was able to run Netflix by sideloading an android phone's Netflix apk .

In case of PrimeVideo the playstore of tv got amazon prime video . But after installing, it doesn't show icon on app list .

But to run the app I had to come through playstore and click open. Was able to code sign in to my amazon prime account , but when I try to play content . It gives error of cannot play and tells me to go to PrimeVideo troubleshooting page .

Anyone able to run prime video . On any of TCL L43p2us or l55p2us. Please help

Does anyone have any tricks to get an app that shows up only in the system apps section to show up with the other apps? I don't want to have to install another launcher. Is there some kind of app I can get that can make it show up like other apps?

I sideloaded Xbox xcloud on my Mi Box S and don't want to have to go to settings/apps/system apps/xcloud/open every time I want to play it

Edit: sideload launcher works good enough. It's not a true launcher like I thought, it just lists all the apps installed and allows you to launch one.

I have the Mi Box 3 with Oreo 8.1 and every time I change the volume on the Mi Box, two different volume bars show up on screen: a Mi Box volume and my TV volume.

Has this issue been fixed in Android 9.0 on the Mi Box S? I want it to only display my TV volume.
