Substituting my hisense TV OS with a better TV box

So my hisense VIDAA OS is a nightmare I use it only for YT, Netflix and Laggy plex app. So I'm searching for a better alternative my only options in my country are: Amazon Fire stick 4k, Mi Box S or 4k, MI stick 4k, and some other random x96, MXQ pro... Etc. I won't be using 4k much since I mainly watch 1080 for connection stability and I would like to use kodi, vlc to stream local folders from my laptop or HD what do u recommend best out of these options?

Android "Pure" Box Recommendations?

Hi All,

We recently purchased a Minix NEO U22-XJ, and it works great, but we are trying to hook it up to Meraki MDM. To install the work profile it needs to encrypt the device, unfortunately this is not possible on the Minix's current firmware according to their support team.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what box we should try next? It must have Android 9.0 Pie, not Android TV, and it must be able to encrypt the device.

If this is the wrong place to post this, any direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I need help deciding on which android box to buy.

So I bought Chromecast with Google TV, and I was surprised on how limited their app store is (you can't get stuff like stremio, and you can't even get Google Chrome!!! wtf..) I want a box that gives me the freedom to download whatever and do whatever. I have some ideas so if you guys can help me decide (or point out a better box around the $50 range) that would be awesome!

There is a way to wake up Mi Box S from USB?

I have an android tablet connected to a USB Keyboard that wakes up normally if i press any key, which leads me to think that this problem occurs only on Mi Box.

Does anybody knows if there is a fix for it? Maybe some app that fix it, or even a screensaver app that fakes a sleep state, making all the screen black and reducing cpu usage, because if i let my mi box always awake with the default screensaver from android, it gets warm in the same way as if i were using it...

Using the Android TV Bluetooth LE remotes with a PC?

The newer Android / Google TV remotes (based on g10, g20 reference design) use Bluetooth LE to communicate with the box (harder to figure this out that I expected...)

The remotes will pair with an Android phone (after complaining that an app is required) and will allow navigation, back, home (didn't play much, just confirmed it worked)

So next I paired it with a Windows 10 PC. It pairs (a little tricky as the pairing timeout on the remote is short), there are no errors, but it doesn't do anything.

So - Google searching completely fails for me on this topic, just leading to irrelevant results.

Any idea if there is means of making the remote work with Windows 10? Some kind of driver? Keymapping app?

Also would be curious if there is a normal android app to fully support the remote (perhaps side loading the library used in Android TV?)

Thanks!

Chromecast (google TV) randomly pausing

Google Play app games previews not working

Hey,

I own a Sony KD-43XE8004 tv and I decided today I'd have a look at the games via the Google play app, however when trying to preview the games all I get is a still image.

The only way I've found around this (which isn't ideal) is to reset the app back to factory settings and then I can view the video if I watch it via YouTube (a pop-up comes up asking if I'd like to when I click on the preview)... once it updates though back to the latest Google Play app it goes back to not working. I've tried clearing the cache and data but this makes no difference.

So my only solution is to revert the app to the factory settings and then turn off auto update.

I have contacted Google, they've said it's not a problem from their end and to contact Sony.... I have a feeling though that if I do contact Sony they will say it's not their app and to contact Google.

Anyway has anyone else had this issue or kmnow a better way around it? It's not a major issue, it's just an inconvenience more than anything that it doesn't work as it should.

Thanks,

Ellie

Should I avoid Android TV or am I reading opinions incorrectly?

Edit: Thank you all for the thoughtful input!

I'm in the market for a TV and trying to get myself edjumacated these days. The sense I'm getting from skimming through the past few months of posts is that Android TV is a disastrous shit show full of ads and if you want to get rid of them, there's some major trade-off, as well as some performance issues with the actual apps. Are any other TV OS' better or is that just the current state of Smart TVs these days?

I guess I also wonder because reading through reddit in general, negativity gets the most attention and floats to the top of threads.

Thoughts? Apologies for my ignorance in advance.

Android TV Power On Behavior - Hisense A6G

When I power off the TV while in any app and come back to power on later, the TV tries to open back at the last place. It usually fails and gets stuck on the app load screen. (just press the home button to get it back)

Has anyone found in the settings how to change this behavior, to always power on to the home screen?

[question] Walmart Onn 4k UHD box - side button purpose?

What does the button on the side of the unit do?

My Onn remote keeps disconnecting and/or locking up with the red light on the remote. Previously I thought the unit was freezing, turns out it’s the remote that loses communication with the box, as when I use my TV remote I can navigate up-down-left-right and so on).

I held the button on the side of the box and it gave me a screen that said I should hold two buttons on my remote to pair it again. It “found” the remote, attempted to connect, and went back to “find” mode after about two minutes. Remote still was locked up until I unplugged the Onn from wall power and plugged it back in.

A factory reset is on my list for the future as a last resort but I am not sure if it will make things worse or not.

Is there a manual for this unit? Or for other units that it is basically a clone of? Thanks

Interference in AV video signal due to NVR

I’m having two inputs to my android tv, one is an security camera’s NVR input through hdmi and the other one is the set top box through AV cables( cannot use hdmi cable for this connection as the home theatre system goes out of sync from CEC). Now I get a huge interference in AV Input because of my nvr input. I have tried separating the AV cables and checked, but of no use. I have tried connecting other input sources as well but only my NVR causes this interference. How do I solve this? What is causing this issue?

Sh*t - Sharp TV

Hey, i bought a year ago TV Sharp - 50BL5EA. After two weeks bugs appeared under the screen... After a month, he returned from the warranty with removed bugs, okey. Less than a year has passed, the problem has reappeared... and TV back to me yesterday.

Another problem is sound. The sound quality is absolutely good but software bugs ahhh... If it doesn't work for a long time, sound fades away, only need to put off DTS and Put on again, and its okay...

Another problem :))) Is sh*t support from Sharp, my last update - April 2021, Android Version - 9

Choosing Homatics Box Q over KM6

Received both the KM6 Deluxe and Homatics Box Q on the same day, and after testing both out I decided to keep the Box Q despite its much lower specs.

The techie part of me still feels like this is a dumb decision, but ultimately the Box Q has enough for my use cases (4K Netflix/Prime Video/Disney+ and Steam Link), and seems more well-built on both the hardware and software sides.

Here's some of my observations after testing both boxes for a couple of hours:

  • Box Q comes with almost no pre-installed bloatware, so that's great. KM6 on the other hand has a whole bunch of apps that can't be uninstalled.

  • The Box Q remote can detect your TV brand and turn on/off the TV as well (it also seems to automatically switch to the right HDMI source as well), so that's a bonus.

  • KM6 had a random hardware scare one time when its ethernet port refused to work after I turned it on, I thought the port was busted but after power cycling the box it started working again. For this to happen on the first day of usage really makes me wonder about the build quality.

  • When the KM6 had no connection because of the above, it also left the screen black, and I thought it bricked. It only started working again after I turned it off and on at the mains to get ethernet connectivity back.

  • The Netflix mods for KM6 only get you 1080p, not 4K. No idea why though.

  • My KM6 came with the updated firmware with the HDR fix.

  • Because Netflix isn't officially supported on KM6, it doesn't show up as a recommendations row even if you have the modded apk installed.

  • Because it's not Netflix certified, the KM6 remote has no Netflix button as well. I don't quite like the position of the Google voice assistant button on it too.

  • The KM6 definitely feels snappier when opening apps (e.g. those times when the streaming app must load a whole lot of thumbnails), but beyond that both boxes feel equally smooth.

  • The ethernet port on the Box Q is meaningless, it's much slower than 5GHz Wi-Fi. Still, on Wi-Fi it can stream shows at 4K and Steam Link at 2K (limited by my PC's monitor) without issue.

  • The KM6 ethernet port is a little badly designed, it's really, really hard to pull out the LAN cable once it's in. Not that anyone expects to do that often, but still. Could be just my unit being badly assembled though.

  • The KM6 has framerate matching, but it's disabled by default in the options. I don't see the option in the Box Q so I assume it doesn't have that.

Homatics Box Q is actually from SEI Robotics, some China Android TV ODM. But despite also ultimately being a "China box", it seems much more polished. So... between the dodgy ethernet port and the weird black screen thing and Netflix mod not having 4K on the KM6 Deluxe, I decided that I much prefer the reliability of the Homatics Box Q.

Hope I don't regret this!
