Does Fox Sports app support 4K and HDR on recent Sony TVs? (Cross post from r/bravia)

According to Fox Sports website, they do NOT support 4K and HDR on Android TV (https://help.fox.com/s/article/Which-devices-are-4K-or-UHD-compatible). However some folks in the Nvidia Shield forum said the MLB Field of Dreams game was in 4K and HDR in the Fox Sports app (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/461499/fox-sports-app/). There is an upcoming MLS All Star game on 8/25 that is scheduled to be broadcast in 4K and HDR, but I will be away for a business trip so won't be able to check it myself. Has anyone here tried to see if 4K HDR works in the Fox Sports app on their Sony TVs? I'm curious for the upcoming Thursday Night NFL games which were just announced to all be in 4K HDR. Granted it is only upscaled 1080p, but it still looks better than regular TV broadcasts. I have a 900H in case that matters.

Root Shield Pro 2019 - magsikhide gone after upgrade

hi, I rooted the NVS Pro 2019. I used image 8.2.2 and vbmeta_skip from 8.1.0.
Worked fine, Magsikhide showed up under settings and it passed the safetynet test.

However, I let it upgrade to 8.2.3 and now there is no more Magiskhide under settings and it's not passing the safetynet test.

What can I do? thank you!!

Bluetooth ir remote

I have a mi box s which is controlled with the default mi remote and a Samsung sound bar and a Nintendo switch

I have hdmi cec enabled on all the devices and the on/ off function works great but the problem is that the mi box can’t control my sound bar so I bought a universal Bluetooth remote from AliExpress with ir programming function but the problem is that only the power button is programmable

So are there any universal remotes that will solve my problem that doesn’t cost so much like the Logitech harmony Pls help

[edit] the goal is to only use one remote for the mi box, the sound bar (only the volume buttons) without hdmi cec

New Android TV Homepage

Hi

Is the rollout of this still continuing? I noticed the new screen (with Discover) this morning on my Sony XH95 as I had left the VPN set to US overnight. However, when I turned VPN off, it reverted to old style and will not revert to new even if I connect via VPN.

I am in UK.

I have latest version of Android Home and Android TV Core Services installed already.

Is it that rollout gas still not completed?

Thanks

Google TV - Disney + DV Yet? (Mandalorian)

I am getting a new streaming device and am choosing between a Google TV and a Roku Express.

We watch Disney + a lot and I am wondering if they fixed the DV issue with shows like Wanda Vision and Mandalorian.

Multiple streaming apps no longer function properly on Nvidia Shield

I purchased my SHIELD TV pro 2019 back in April. Everything worked flawlessly. I returned from a trip a few weeks back to find that multiple apps no longer function or take multiple minutes to load. These apps are:

HBO Max - (it takes 4-5 minutes to load and once it's loaded, the play button is missing from all content so I can't watch anything) Paramount+ - (doesn't load) ESPN (doesn't - load) NBC Sports - (loads after waiting for 4-5 minutes) Criterion Collection - (loads but content takes 3-4 minutes to start once you hit play)

Apps that still work fine are: Netflix Twitch Amazon Prime

I believe the issue was in the latest upgrade, 8.2.3. because I couldn't have done anything while I was away. Is NVIDIA aware of this issue? Is there anything I can do? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing the cache, and turning the device off and on. Nothing works.

Edit: For those who are having a similar issue, my fix was disabling IPv6 in the network menu.

Nexus Player Controllers and Google Tv

I have an old nexus player with 4 controllers for it. Would these controllers work with "Chromecast with Google tv"? These are the original controllers for Nexus Player.

Also if I factory data reset the Nexus Player, will it get downgraded or reset to its most recent update, given that support ended in 2018?

I don't want the controllers to go to waste.

Thank you for your help.

Update: After receiving multiple positive comments, I went with the CCwGTV and I can confirm that the black Asus controllers do work with it.

Thanks everyone!

Mi TV stick update failed

Hi,

I have a mi TV stick. It worked since it told me there is an update. Ok update yourself... Now the screen is blocked on "setup update" screen for ages (more than one hour) with a full progressbar.

I tried to restart and the same screen again.

Is there a solution to skip the update ?

Edit: seems to be the same as this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/o9k7a5/mi_tv_stick_bricked_endless_update_on_boot/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Does anybody have the Stock/Factory image for the Onn UHD Android TV device? I installed Lineage OS on it but I think what I really want is the stock image rooted with Magisk instead. I don't know how to install Magisk but I at least need the factory image.

Hey folks! I installed Lineage OS on that $30 Onn UHD Android TV from Walmart.

I'm kind of a noob at this. The last time I did anything like this was when I put CyanogenMod on my Galaxy S2.

What I wanted was an Android device that I could control with a remote control that plays YouTube without ads and that I could watch Netflix and Plex on. I thought installing Lineage OS would do that.

Well, with the Lineage OS install as it stands, casting to the device doesn't work, and Netflix doesn't work. I'm sure the implementation of that OS on this device needs some development time.

It turns out that to do anything really fun on Lineage, I need to root it with Magisk ... and if I got that working, Netflix would still not work.

Somebody said that I could get everything I wanted by installing Magisk and using the stock rom/image/whatever it's called.

TL;DR: I erased everything to install LineageOS - does anybody know where I can find the stock or factory image for this device? Would I need the stock recovery, too?

Removing ads from Android TV Home on updated Mi Box S

So if there's any other Mi Box S users here that were unfortunate enough to install the last 3 or so OTAs you'd have noticed that they now have a version of Android TV Home bundled with ads as the base version. Before such OTAs I took this screenshot: this is what I'm trying to achieve again. Another thread suggested version 2.3.1 which oddly definitely still has the ads. Any suggestions?

Unable to change backlight setting until I restart Xiaomi P1 43 TV

Hi all,

I am unable to change the backlight setting whenever my TV wakes from sleep, in facts it resets the backlight setting to full brightness whenever it wakes up from sleep.

Is there any way I can disable sleep mode entirely? ie. changing the red power button on the TV remote to shutdown instead of just going to sleep.

I have explored every possible settings/developer, but no such option unfortunately.

Great cheap starter usb hub for walmart onn or similar streaming device(s)

Picked THIS little raspberry pi powered hub as a great starter hub setup. It works great with my walmart onn device. Can run xbox usb or generic usb (wired or wireless) controllers, bluetooth dongled mouse or keyboard. will also run wired mouse and keyboards. it can only handle chargers up to 5v or up to 5.2 volt chargers, but I happened to have a spare laying around that works a treat. Set the hub to OTG mode and enjoy! (the micro usb female plug is what you would use for the charging port and is perfectly fine to leave plugged into a wall adapter for a constant power source). Setting the hub in charge mode disables otg if I'm not mistaken.

Some New User Questions

I've just got a new Philips 856 Oled which runs Android TV (If I've not already mixed up Google TV/Android TV!) and I've got a few questions.

  1. There's a quick menu that can pop out the right side, can I customise those options, as they're pretty useless as they are?

  2. Is there an app that allows for remote button re-mapping, the Philips remote is still way to broadcast tv orientated, so I want to see if I can make more buttons do useful stuff?

  3. Is there any OSD/Info available, I want to see what input res was, what the output res is, what hdr mode, what framerate etc etc, you know basic diagnostic stuff.

  4. What is the recommended app for NAS stored media? I've got a Synology NAS, so I was going to start with their dsvideo app. But the Infuse app on AppleTV was better and it didn't need a server (my NAS although marketed as a Play for this usage doesn't really have the oomph for running the server stuff I've tried (plex and emby I think i've been through).

  5. And for clarity Google TV was first (I've still got a Sony one of those somewhere), then Android TV (which the Nvidia Sheilds run (again one of those is somewhere:)), the current OS on TV's is Android TV but that might be changing back to being Google TV branded? have I got all that right?

  6. Oh and might be a bit off topic, but I can't make the Philips TV a Hue Hub can I?

Thanks

Is there a refresh rate switching app that works on all Android TVs?

I found one but I think it's only for the Shield specifically.

The only ones I know of that can do it are Plex and Kodi, but I'm tired of playing around Plex to avoid transcoding and Kodi's switching doesn't reliably work for some reason. It will be fine in one file then then a few hours later there will be judder and frame skipping.

Is there an app that can reliably do it for any video player?

Move back app from External USB Flash to internal storage

Hello, I wanted to test an old USB Flash drive as an external storage for my Android TV.

System asked me to format it when I plugged it, I did it, then I confirmed when it asked me to move apps from internal storage to this flash drive, but I want the apps to get back to internal memory and reset what I did.

How can I do it ?

Thanks !

Onn tv streaming stick. Where’s Restricted profile? Where’s Screen mirroring?

Where’s Android TV’s Restricted profile on this Onn FHD streaming stick?! I need to be able to lock down this streaming stick so people, who I don’t trust not to mess up my google account, can still use it to stream YouTube or Pluto or other apps, maybe with each google account protected by a long PIN number. After X minutes of idle time it should Lock Screen and only let you in to whichever account you enter the PIN for. Any apps for this?!

Also, where’s the screen mirroring feature? I want to play a game on my phone while it mirrors to the big tv screen…?!
