So if there's any other Mi Box S users here that were unfortunate enough to install the last 3 or so OTAs you'd have noticed that they now have a version of Android TV Home bundled with ads as the base version. Before such OTAs I took this screenshot : this is what I'm trying to achieve again. Another thread suggested version 2.3.1 which oddly definitely still has the ads. Any suggestions?

You have to switch to a different launcher.
If you want one from the Play Store rather than sideloading, use Sideload Channel Launcher 3 or FLauncher.
Be careful with future System Updates. Over time they will most likely start bundling newer versions of the 'Android TV Home' with the OS, meaning even if you 'uninstall updates' you will be brought to a version 3 or newer, with the new interface. So, maybe consider avoiding any future System Updates on your device until other people confirm that they are 'safe'.
