TCL TV drops from 1080 to 720 in android ui.

Hi, I bought an android tv from TCL and I noticed a strange behavior. The tv is an entry model (model 40S615 in my country). It is a full hd model. When viewing videos, the TV appears to be at 1080p, but when viewing the android UI, the resolution drops to 720p. The image stay blurred and the apps icons have a low definition. Is there any setting that changes this? I already used the command "adb shell wm size 1920x1080", but the result didn't seem to improve.

Getting Dolby Vision working

I have a Dolby Vision certified TV but the processing on the TV is mediocre and I think it might be contributing to stutters. If I want to get an androidTV box that is a little beefier, does it need to be Dolby Vision certified or is the TV being certified enough?

How to return to setup on GoogleTV Box

Hi all,

I recently purchased a google TV box and when setting it up, it asked what brand of tv i had and mapped the volume rocker and power switch with the googleTV remote. Since then it seems to be broken.

I have tried every CEC setting with no luck. My only other option is to redo the setup.

I do want to do this without deleting everything.

Is this possible?

PHILIPS 50PUS7906/12 - REMOTE MICROPHONE NOT WORKING

As the title suggests, I can't use microphone in my Philips Android TV, because it doesn't work at all. I don't even have a Google Assistant button, but when I manually open it, my tv cannot hear anything both from my remote or the TV itself. If I use Assistant from Google Home app on my phone, it works.

I've tried looking for a solution anywhere online, but I didn't found anything.

This is my remote, apparently it's only used in few entry-level Android TV series (7406, 7506, 7906, 7956 - which are all the same Adnroid TVs with some minimal changes like Ambilight or other things), hence the lack of support.

You can see that it doesn't have any visible microphone holes, or a PAIR button to pair it to the TV via bluetooth (usually PAIR button is the same as SOURCES one), which also means I won't be able to buy another Philips remote and pair it to the TV. It doesn't even have an Assistant button - which actually makes sense, I mean, everything voice-related hasn't been added to the remote.

I've run out of ideas, can anyone help me please?

I wouldn't mind buying another remote if necessary - but I don't know if it will work.

Edit: official guide does not mention how to pair another remote, and about the microphone, it just says "If your remote does not have microphone, download "Android TV Remote Control" app from Play Store". That's not a specific app, I can find a lot of them with similar names. Using the official Philips Remote app instead does not work, I can't even pair it.

Remote control

I have a SABA Android TV - please don't tell me it's cheap and don't expect much. I know that! The question I have is why, when turning up and down volume with the original remote, there is so much lag, but when I use the remote control of Sky Q, the TV has no lag in showing the volume bar and increasing the volume?

Google TVs - Able to Connect Multiple Bluetooth Speakers?

I was looking at getting a TV with Google TV builtin (currently looking at the TCL either series 4 or Series 5). My goal is to bring it out on our deck to use from time to time. Do you know if it's possible with the TCL or any others to connect multiple bluetooth speakers to it at once for simultaneous audio? I own 2 Logitech Megaboom bluetooth speakers I was hoping to use and spread out over the deck to use.

I know it should have no issues connecting to 1 speaker, but was hoping to be able to connect to 2. I tried a bluetooth transmitter (used the Trondand connect to audio out with my current TV, but I had very inconsistent results connecting both, so I was hoping to get a Google TV with it built in if possible.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Will we ever get the “perfect” all-in-one Android TV box?

I’m sure many of us have multiple boxes to accomplish what we need. Right now I have owned multiple Shields (since 2015), a couple of 4k Fire Sticks, an Odroid N2 (coreelec), and my most recent purchase, a Zidoo Z9X. None of them can do it all, and even with all these streamers and boxes there are certain things I can’t do (like stream AV1).

I’m hoping someone will take the initiative and put out the perfect ATV box that does it all- 4k, HDR, HDR10+, DV, lossless audio support, auto-refresh rate, all the latest codec support including AV1. Excellent PQ with image processing features like the 1619DR chipset offers in the Z9X with the Dolby VS10 engine.

I’m not sure who will produce such a box, perhaps Nvidia with a new Shield, but there really is a need for such a product. The Shield served a purpose at one time, but it is dated now and really needs a refresh.

Simple streamer needed

Looking for simple streamer for my office TV, at the moment not even 4K (But will be one day I guess)

No AV system, just TV speakers. I need Netflix/Tivimate/Kodi.

I've read about those:

  1. FireStick 4K (Max not required I guess) - Ads and Amazon stuff
  2. CCwGTV - less preferred then Firestick ?
  3. ONN - Great, but inaccessible for non-US (Such myself)
  4. H96 Max - Looks nice, Android 11. Not sure if netflix certified

What Should I go with ? option 1 seems reasonable.

Any addition that I've missed ?

Don't want a Shield. What Android box has the best web surfing performance? Budget: approx. $60.

What CPU/GPU combo should I look for, and which browser should I use for best browsing performance?

It's got to have a couple of USB ports so I can use external hard drives.

Currently have an Android 9 X88 PRO X3 Amlogic S905X3 with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM I got off Banggood, and the web browsing is almost unusable, very slow. It's capable of playing 4k video just fine, so the poor browser performance puzzles me, no matter which browser I try - Brave, Chrome, Kiwi, Firefox.

Thanks for any advice!

Using Android phone as remote for Google TV

TL:dr Google hardware should be easier to set up

I was setting up a new Google TV dongle and couldn't figure out why it wasn't showing up on my phone to use the phone as a remote. I checked to see if there were any updates available but it was up to date.

I found a few articles talking about how you have to check the version of the TV Remote app on the dongle (hidden in system apps) and if it's lower than 5.x version you need to update. My device, even though it said it was up to date, was on 4.x. I had to go into the play store on my phone, find the app, and install it on the device that way.

If Google wants "regular" people to buy their hardware, they REALLY need to concentrate on making things work without having to do so much troubleshooting and jumping through hoops

55" TCL Google TV not producing sound

It was working perfectly fine yesterday and is only a year old or so, I have no idea what could've happened?

It's connected through Optical Out to a Vizio sound bar, which was also working fine. We use it as the main audio output and keep the TV itself muted.

I went to watch YouTube on the TV itself and no sound was coming out. I checked the settings, tried changing a couple, even tried the actual TVs speakers and there's no sound at all!!?

EDIT: SOLVED! A full power cycle fixed it.
