Mi Box S or Chromecast with google TV? Picture quality is main concern.

I just got a new Hisense TV U6G that support Dolby vision and HDR+. As I live in Dubai, unfortunately, the only model available here is the one with Hisense OS Vidaa, which is not so smart. I'm considering buying an Android box, but stuck between these two choices.

I know the Mi Box S is good, from previous experience, but it doesn't support Dolby vision and HDR+.

The CCWGT however, supports that plus a newer CPU and Android 10.

My main use is IPTV and pirated stuff from the likes of Cinema HD, FilmPlus,..

Do the extra features really make a difference? Would it be better for my TV to have the CCWGT?

Any advice is much appreciated :)

Nvidia Shield or CCwGTV?

I own an Apple TV, but I plan on getting an Android TV box to download the pro version of TiviMate to watch IPTV. Would the CCwGTV be good enough for this? I’ve heard some people say that it can be laggy at times so I wanted to hear someone’s experience. Would the Nvidia shield be overkill for my use case? I might also use YouTube on the Android TV box since it doesn’t work well on the Apple TV. Thanks in advance

Fixed 5.1 through optical on Disney+ and HBO max

I have an old Denon 3806 receiver without HDMI arc. My TV is an Philips 58pus8545 android TV connected with optical. Netflix sends out 5.1 Dolby digital but I could only get stereo from Disney+ and HBO max. On a whim I ordered an 30 bucks HDMI arc extractor on Amazon. HDMI to optical/coax, ac3 and Dts 5.1 output. After ordering I regretted it, since I couldn't understand what difference it is would be to my existing optical output. But strange enough, it works. And the messed up part is that my existing optical connection sends out 5.1 Dolby digital from Disney+ and HBO max. In order to get it working I had to connect the extractor, then in the TV menu activate "HDMI sound system". My guess is that the activation, that I only can do with the TV connected to an arc HDMI, tells Disney and HBO that the system can play 5.1 and then proceeds to output that on both HDMI and optical . Maybe this fix only is valid for Philips TVs but I'm happy it's working and just wanted to share.

Anyone use Aerial Dream or Aerial Views?

I tried Aerial Views (or Aerial Dream??) but when I click on the setting that tells it how long to wait before turning on, nothing happens... I simply can't enter that setting. Any idea why that might be?

Also, I read that this app consumes tons of bandwidth because it's constantly downloading. Is there any way to avoid this?

Lastly, what's the difference between Aerial Dream and Aerial Views?

Thanks! 🙂

How to control from Laptop - Mi Box S

Hi,

How does everyone control their Android TV Mi Box S from Laptop?

I am configuring it all now and it will be much easier from the laptop.

With team viewer, it presents me with an option to download Universal Add-on, but then the next page tells me it's not available for my device.

What i have tried: I have downloaded the Teamviewer Universal Add-On to my laptop, put it on USB and transferred it to the Mi Box. I have enabled all access, and pressed the accessibility enabled button. Teamviewer QS now thinks the add-on is enabled. (in the TV options, its now greyed out). New issue with TeamViewer is that it does not take any input from the laptop other than the Delete button, which is Back. The home key doesnt work, and the click doesnt work.

scrcpy Installed this fully, have it all working over WiFi. I can see the screen fine. Right click takes me back, and it responds to mouse clicks. Only issue here is that the latency is 6 seconds. With 6 second latency and 30 apps to install, sign up and register, its also a disaster.

Thanks for your help.

Onn 4k Streamer Remote options?

Is the remote for the Onn 4k streamer box a RF remote? Is there a way I can get it to control my ancient ass phillips soundbar? My phillips sound bar does its own thing its connected to the tv via an optical audio cable it doesn't support the fancy HDMI features of newer sound bars.

I currently have some crappy GE universal remote that was like $5 at walmart and it controls my TCL Tv and my Phillips sound bar just fine would this work to control the Onn Stream box?

Thanks for any help.

Looking for solution to use educational apps on dumb TV

I'd like to watch training courses and educational content on my TV, so I can relax on my couch and code along. My primary learning apps are Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, edX, and an app for a specific Python course I got a deal on. Looking at the options out there, it seems unreasonably difficult to get all of that on my TV. There is no Udemy app for my Xbox console or Roku, for instance, and trying to cast to my TV and/or Xbox is like getting a tooth pulled, so I'm turning to Android TV.

The Chromecast says it supports Udemy, but I also read that not all Udemy courses work on it (and I don't know how to find out which ones do or do not before buying.) I also can't tell if the Chromecast has the full Play Store or supports sideloading, and it doesn't seem to have my other apps out of the box. The only thing that looks like it fits my needs is the Nvidia Shield, but that's also kinda pricey.

I just don't know what I should even be looking for. In the future I may also want to expand my options and have, say, SkillShare, Brilliant, Khan Academy, or Domestika on my TV. If the Shield truly is the best solution for this, then I'll go with that, I'd just like to know my options first. If you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

I can't grant notification access to an app (Hisense H8G)

An app I want to use requires access to notifications. When I try to enable it under Permissions > Special app access > Notification access, it just reverts to being unchecked.

I tried with adb - first by removing the tv protector app, then by manually giving the permissions - neither worked

cmd notification allow\_listener com.arn.scrobble/com.arn.scrobble.mylistener

Any ideas?

Share TV-USB drive on local network?

Hi,

I own a Philips Android TV and use Kodi to watch movies stored on a direct attached USB harddrive. Is there a way to share this drive in the local network, so that I can add new movies and TV series from my PC to the TV drive over the network, via SMB share or something similar. As far as I know Android TV doesn't have write permission to external drives.
