New TV: might a monitor fit my needs?

Hi :-), 1st, sorry for what might be a dumb question, just wanna make sure...
I am going to buy a new tv, and was wondering if a monitor might be enough, can save few bucks.

I'll use the "TV" only via Android TV for the kitchen, so a monitor with audio should be ok for me, am I right? Anything I should care? Room matters, so I have to stay below 28 inches. Would love a 4k indeed... a TV is an investment a monitor makes it quite a deal. HDR, 60hz is ok, anything else I have to care? I don't game, so I think a 1ms or a 5ms changes anything, am I right?

Kitchen is unlikely the room where I probably spend the most of my time (asleep :-)) so I care the price but am available for some sacrifice if needed especially on a long term perspective.

Last: the device! Not keen to go for Nvidia, maybe lately when I set up the sitting room as I planned: a device I will be happy with and my pocket will be too? Thanks a lot!!

Proud of South Africa for being first in developing this kind of Android TV box

It is very rarely that South Africa leads the charge, but I'm proud to see this Android TV box being made for and launched in the South Africa market.

https://www.takealot.com/nova-4k-ultra-hd-android-tv-box-with-av1-support-wi-fi-5-and-16g/PLID90906310

This is a Netflix, Prime Video, Google certified Android TV box running Android 11 with 2gb ram and 16gb storage. It supports the AV1 video standard, and is running the latest S905Y4 chip. It also sports the new standard Android TV remote control. It has a network port and it has a micro sd card slot.

It isn't all sunshine and roses though. It isn't a S905X4 chipset, but that's ok. Doesn't look like S905X4 has been certified by streaming services now anyway. The ethernet is only 100mbps. It has 2 x USB ports but both are only USB 2.0.

Other than those 3 stumbling blocks, this is one of the best Android TV packages outside of Shield TV that I've seen to date.

Full list of OFFICAL certified Android TV devices?

Can anyone direct me to a link to or have an official list of certified Android TV devices and their specs including well-known ones like the Chromecast with Google TV and the Nvidia shield? I'm curious as to how many Android TV devices exist and which ones are worth the effort

Volume bug

All of a sudden, without changing anything, each volume change is 2 steps. I can visually see the volume bar sliding 2 positions.

Point of this post is not to get a detailed reply specific to me, is to learn if this is a known bug with something that I'm missing.

My last resort will be a factory reset.

Onn 4K remote not working with my JVC TV

Hi there. I've recently purchased the Onn 4K Android TV box from Walmart and, so far, it has been great.

But since i've bought it, i've been trying to setup the remote to work with my JVC TV (LT32N750U), but none of the codes seem to work with it (i had tried many times).

So, i suposed the HDMI-CEC will serve as a second option, but doesn't seem to be fully functional: the only command that seems to work is when i turn-off the Onn box (it sends the signal to the TV and it turns off too after a couple of seconds). As to the volume and input commands, they don't work at all (btw, the CEC settings are all activated, both on the Onn device and on the TV as well).

So, by now, i'm trying to get a brand code (any) that could work with this TV model, but searching one by one on the Android TV list seems like could took forever.

Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks!

Hisense U6g or U7g?

So here's the deal. I live in Dubai. The Hisense U6G and U7G unlike the US version, don't come with Android. They run on Hisense Vidaa OS. The U7G also doesn't support 120Hz here in the midlle east. I have Xbox series S, which should do me fine on a 60Hz screen, I believe! My main use for TV is iptv and streaming movies from apps like CinemaHD. Now I'm a bit tight on the budget. When it comes to the display of both screens is it worth to shed the extra 100$ for the U7G? Or should I get the U6G and use that 100$ for a Chromcast with Google TV and a motion wall mount? I'm in quite a dilemma lol. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Noob looking for help to develop an Android TV app that plays back stream from external USB camera device

I've tinkered in app development here and there over my life and did a computer science course in university focused on Java around 15 years ago, but I've never really practiced app development. I'm saying this because I'm trying to build an Android TV app and I need help and I'm hoping I'll be a quick learner.

I have an HDMI to USB dongle that I have in my android TV box and I want to build an app that can take that stream and display it. There should be nothing else on the app except the stream. If I press the back button, it must exit the app. If I press the ok button, a settings menu must come up where I can change the currently active HDMI-to-USB device (in the case where multiple adaptor devices are connected). If I press the home button, the stream just go into pip. Also, when the app starts up, it must always be the last used hdmihtohusb device that streams. I'll also like the user to be able to rename the list of devices in the settings app to whatever they choose.

If anyone can guide me on how to build this, I will really appreciate it. I also have some dollars saved to pay someone who can assist me in either building this or providing me with specifics on how to build this.

What I'm trying to achieve is have an HDMI Input Viewer for any Android TV. This would allow me to pass any HDMI feed through the adaptor and play it in this HDMI input Viewer app. If the user has multiple HDMI devices connected through multiple hdmi-to-usb adaptors, the user will be able to switch devices in this app too. I'm really trying to make a simple HDMI input Viewer with hdmi source switching.

Anyone who can help?

Edit: If there is anyone who can help me build this app, here is the detail of the requirements I have for this app: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1j8ZM96vaJjdsG-35qsaU_-g8lfU46mydyIehPrC_wjw/edit?usp=sharing

TCL 40S330 firmware (R851T10) desperately needed

I flashed and incorrect firmware to the above TV model. It "works" but the colors are all off and grainy. By any chance does anyone have a recovery image? Every link I can find is dead. I have contacted TCL support but they don't seem to want to send me it. It would be a shame to have to throw this away due to my dumb mistake.

Anyone have severe choppy video when playing something faster than 1x?

I have a new Hisense U8G and this is my first time using Android TV. If I open an app and play video at 2x (even 1.25x) it looks very choppy. This does not happen when I'm using other devices through an HDMI port so it seems to be specific to Android TV. Any ideas on how to solve this?

Help with picking an android tv box

I ended up with 3 options, the Meecool km2, Strong Leap-s1 or Thomson THA100.

On the spec sheet they're literally the same, but i read a review about a THA100 buyer who had smoothing applied to his content no matter what media player he uses (Kodi, VLC, ...) and made it look so bad. He said and i quote: "24 fps looks like soap opera".

I just want to know from anyone that owns one of these devices about their picture and playback quality? is there really smoothing applied to the content you're watching?

Also one more thing, can the remote of one device work with another box? eg: can the meecool km2 controller work with the leap-s1 box?

Can you update your AndroidTV beyond the firmware updates provided by the manufacturer?

Hello everybody,

I've recently bought cheaply used Phillips TV that fits my needs perfectly (43PUS6501). The only problem is that it has been manufactured back in 2017. It was initially released with Android 6.0 and has been maintained up till Android 8.0. I can't update it beyond that version from the build-in updater.

And here comes my question. Can I update this to Android 12 in any way? Perhaps there is a way to download firmware for newer Philips TV and install it? Firstly, I'd like to connect my DualSense controller (which support was introduced in Android 12) and secondly, I don't feel comfortable having my Google account hooked up to an ancient version of Android. I wish I could do that, as apart from the OS, I totally love the TV.
