I figured out some intuitively, but returning to the home screen from the keyboard, or to a list of running apps I can't figure out. I suspect there's a list somewhere :-)

The Windows and Enter key combination will take you to the home screen on Android TV. I'm not sure of the key combination to display the recent apps but Alt + Tab is worth a try.
