Share TV-USB drive on local network?

by alexat7

Hi,

I own a Philips Android TV and use Kodi to watch movies stored on a direct attached USB harddrive. Is there a way to share this drive in the local network, so that I can add new movies and TV series from my PC to the TV drive over the network, via SMB share or something similar. As far as I know Android TV doesn't have write permission to external drives.

I don't get it. Why not just play the movies from your own PC via SMB instead of saving them to a USB drive first? You can also get a RasPi and connect the USB drive to that for $40 and have an always-on SMB server filled with movies that is way more powerful than any Android setup and you can even torrent from that RasPi remotely.

Attach your USB hard drive to your router.
