Is it possible to replace the default Live TV app that gets OTA channels from the antenna with one that has better functionality?

I upgraded from an older RokuTV to a newer TCL with Google TV and just assumed that some basic level of functionality would be the same, but my experience with whatever default app handles live TV has been bad.

Not only is it pretty ugly, but one of the nice features of the RokuTV was that it was always recording. So you could pause for up to 90 minutes just by hitting the pause button or rewind any time you wanted. The default Live TV app on this TCL Google TV has an option to pause live TV, but it's buried 5 layers deep in a menu and has terrible functionality.

I tried Live Channels as I saw it suggested here, but it doesn't seem to have anything like that at all.

So first I'm looking for a replacement for watching OTA TV, and second hoping that whatever replacement I can find will integrate well with the existing Google TV Live tab.

Every video player I try to play downloaded movies is broken; either the subtitles aren't detected, the video or audio tracks don't play correctly, the media library isn't detected, or the player can't handle a certain codec/file.

So far VLC is the one that works best, however subtitles causes the playback to stutter.

I have android TV on my Sony Bravia and I truly hate it with a passion.

Main problem. I hate Adverts. To remove the giant Disney Plus banner from my home screen I need to uninstall the android TV app updates. To be able to watch ITV hub and All 4 I have to go through this sony selects thing, which means I cant access them from custom launchers. Both ITV and All 4 and sometimes youtube crash and fail to load on a regular basis. This happens both when playing through the app and casting. Ive tried sideloading these apps and i get an error saying my manufacturer dosnt have a license to use these apps. The only solution I can come up with is to spend more money and get a TV box / stick to enable me to watch content on my £600 TV.

Possible options,

Fire Stick - I think still has annoying adds? But otherwise seems like a good option.

Android TV box like Nvidia shield - Back to the giant disney plus banner

Roku - Currently looking like by best option

I would love to hear peoples opinions on my options and any possible solutions that would avoiding spending more money on another device. Thanks

After a while of inactivity/sleep each video playback app freezes on first second - YouTube, local video,tivimate , TV stream app.. Only workaround is to restart... basically every time prior I want to use the Android TV

I'm struggling to find the new UI (both updated Android TV Core and Home), but still no new facelift.

If there is a solution without sideloading the Google TV UI, please comment.

I have a ONN UHD connected to a TCL tv with a Vizio soundbar. I have the remote controlling the tv and soundbar via IR. I tried CEC but couldn't ever get it working to my satisfaction.

Everything was great until a couple of weeks ago. Now, I can't control either IR devices when turning things on. Can't power on the TV, can't adjust the soundbar volume. If I turn the TV on using its remote, then after 5 minutes or so, I can control everything again, including turning off the TV.

I've forgotten and re-paired the remote, forgotten and reconfigured the external devices and buttons, and it works until I turn things off, and then I'm stuck again. I'm kinda at a loss for what to try now.

So as I m very ignorant in TV field I just would like to know what are ur thoughts guys abt buying a new tv according to the following requierments:

Web browser included Bluetooth Quick cast from phone Toggle mouse included in remote And below 250$

I ve heard abt tcl 32" but apparently no web browser nor mouse, and philips which looks somehow less famous.

I am getting a "loading error - unable to load data" whenever i want to set my content preferences on my Bravia android 9 tv (with the latest Android home).

I tried resetting my network, a clean new Google account and a factory reset, but it still gives me this error. Somebody knows what's up?

Hi, Does anyone have this issue whenever you turn on your TV it doesn't directly go to the Android home screen or apps page but i get a google channel page where there is nothing present.

I have an Mi TV 4X.

For some reason the recommendations on two of my android tv's just stopped showing different shows. It is the same damn movie all the time. Same three movies recommended. Those movies launched way back and there were so many new ones. Why is this happening? It is so damn infuriating. Is there a way to change this to a better homescreen set up? Maybe any launcher?

My realme tv cant connect to the wifi for days rn. Even tho it was working just fine before that. I tried to look how to fix it on youtube and found a way that everyone said work that is "Changing the date & time to automatic". But there's not even the option of automatic date & time in my tv. Hello, I have a cheap android TV, the brand is star-light. Android looks generic. I'm having issues reordering the cable TV channels. In the pre-installed app - live tv, there is a channel move and sort option, but it's greyed out. I tried the Google app - live channels, but I can't find a way to reorder, I can only exclude some channels. Is there a way to unlock the reorder option, or maybe install a different app that has it. Thank you all!

I have a lot of videos on my HDD of my son. They are all in 9:16 and when I play them in VLC, the videos are on the side. VLC can't rotate them (which is surprising)

Any video apps on Google TV that can rotate videos?
