Philips the One 7354 Ramapping useless buttons? + casting

Hi! Got a Philips 7354 The One Android TV last december and have so far been thoroughly enjoying it. Features are great and ambilight is a nice surprise.

However, I can't help but notice the RakutenTv and Philips TV buttons that I'm not gonna use, probably ever. Was wondering if I could remap them to things like YouTube, which would be way more useful.

Also, I'm having trouble casting to the TV, from an android phone mind you. I can cast to another Chromecast no problem but casting to this TV proves quite... erratic. I've done it already but the cast icon appears once in a blue moon.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Openvpn allowed apps not selectable in Philips android tv 43PUS6412

Hi all,

I am having issues with the OpenVPN for Android app on my Philips 43PUS6412. The tv is running Android tv 8.0.0. Till a couple of days ago, I could easily set up my ExpressVPN connection and select which app to exclude from it via split tunneling. After updating the app, it is impossible for me to select any app anymore in the allowed app list(checkboxes will not be ticked). I thought it was due to the latest update, so I restored the previous version of the app, with no luck, the issue is still there. Does anyone know what the possible solution could be? I use OpenVPN client instead of express vpn client because the express vpn app does not show all the apps installed on the tv in its Split tunneling app list.

Thanks.

Mi Box 3 does not detect Windows hotspots

Hello

I just bought a Mi Box 3 and to my big surprise it does not support connections from a windows wifi hotspot! It won't even detect and show the hotspot name while all my other devices (phones, Samsung smart tv !) connect just fine.

The box seems to only accept Hotspots from mobile phones.

I had a live chat with xiaomi support about this and the person confirmed it to me saying that it was a compatiblity issue!!!

Does this sound right or xiaomi support just wanted to get rid of me? Because the fact that the box doesn't support windows Hotspots is insane!

Smart display or android TV?

Hi everyone! I'm currently renovating my kitchen and am wondering which gadget would be better. I started with a Home Hub which was great but too small. Then I upgraded to a Lenovo display and the slight increase in size was appreciated. Now I'm not sure if I should get a nest hub max or try a monitor + mi box combo.

The main uses for my previous displays were to show family pictures in ambient mode, watch some videos (mainly YouTube) while cooking or eating and some commands for some smart lights and stuff like that.

I started thinking about maybe a 20in monitor with built-in speakers as I think the size would be great. If I wall mount it I could attach a mi box behind it. My concerns would be the photo display part (I've read contradicting info regarding the box's ability to show photos?) and the commands (I suppose I could have a Google home mini nearby to still use commands?)

Does anyone have a setup like this or any ideas what would be better?

Thanks!

Set top box for Steam Link with HDMI 2.1 + Gigabit LAN

I just recently bought an LG OLED TV that has NVidia Gsync and is capable of 4k at 120hz. In another room I have a desktop PC and I am planning to stream games from the desktop PC to my TV using Steam Link (I have a direct CAT-7 connection with the desktop PC so I shouldn't have any real latency issues).

Initially I was thinking of getting the latest NVidia Shield TV however it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 which means it can't support 4k at 120hz. Does anyone know (or can anyone recommend) an Android TV Box which does have support for HDMI 2.1 as well as gigabit LAN port? Also if it has support for Dolby Vision that would also be fantastic since I also want to watch 4k movies that have Dolby Vision on my TV.

Cant change default launcher on MiBox

Just updated my MiBox about a week ago. When it updated it went back to the default launcher. Ive tried several different launchers including the one I was using prior and it still goes back to stock launcher when I press home. Ive been able to change the default launcher before on both of my Miboxes but for some reason I can now. Ive tried several launchers, clearing defaults even though there were none set on the stock launcher, and disabling the default launcher. Nothing has changed me pressing my home button and it going to stock. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mi Box S + External HD

Is it alright to always have an external hard drive connected via usb to the the Xiaomi Mi Box S? The Android TV Box doesn't have a proper shut down option so whenever I "turn off" the box, the attached hd is still on when I'm about to power off my entire home theater system. Isn't that bad for the hard drive?

Searchable Apps??

Hey guys just recently joined the android tv family. I picked up a sonyx950 tv with Android built right in. So far very happy with the system and how smooth everything is. My issue comes when I try to use the Google Assistant voice search, it only shows results from Netflix or YouTube. I found a setting for "searchable Apps" but it is blank and there are no options at all. Anyone know why this is or a potential fix?? Thanks in advance

Here is a picture of what I get when I go to settings>device preferences>google>searchable apps

Turning Android based Projector on/off

Hi, I have a XGIMI H1 projector as my main unit which runs on android 5. To turn it on and off there is a remote (BT) which prompts a dialogue window asking for my shutdown method (off, turn lens off, reboot). It doesn’t have CEC.

I’m using an Nvidia shield connected to it as my main source. However I could not find a way to turn the projector on or off either via Nvidia shield or the Google home assistant.

In a perfect world I could just say turn on TV and both devices would come to life. Or I could just turn off the projector via the Nvidia shield remote. Period.

Any thoughts or ideas on which direction I could go? Thank you very much!

Edit: BTW I have purchased the Logitech Harmony Hub and even though I can use the profile of a firetv or shield to control it, it doesn't have the power button in the app. It does have a sleep button, but that just opens the 'sleep timer selection' on the H1. I'm wondering how the H1 remote actually powers the H1 on when it's powered off. The BT must be dead at that point, is there maybe a independent RF signal to wake the system up?

Edit 2: I have put a servo on an arduino to press via IR input from the harmony hub. To turn off I changed the keyboard layout on the android to power off the H1 when a certain button is sent via Bluetooth from the harmony remote. All very finicky but now it works like a charm when I use google home assistant.

Tech gurus, please i need some guidance.

Hi there folks, salutations from sunny Spain.

Ok so here is the deal:

Pops is sick at the moment dyalisis every 3 days and now his PSA is high (could be cancer, wont know till he gets the biopsy done)
I spend most of my time at home taking care of him so i want to make him feel as confortable as possible, apart from cooking and keeping him active as possible i want him to be entertained.
So anyway he spends a lot of time at home and he loves movies and tv series so everyday he asks me for a specific movie or tv series and then i look for it in my pc.
I have plenty of space and i was tired of dragging all those dvds around so i just ripped them and put them on my pc and a couple of external drives.
And now whenever i buy a dvd i just rip it and keep it in my pc so i can pass it to him for whenever he wants to watch it,we would get a service like netflix or something like that but for now he prefers to shop for dvds or just watch the stuff he already has.

Now this is a bit of a pain because each time he wants to watch something i have to look for it in my pc or the external drives, then copy it to a pendrive then put the pendrive in the tv.
His current tv is a non smart samsung tv model UE40J5100.

This model only has one usb port and im afraid it might break one day ( i use it 3 or 4 times a day) and they we are screwed so i need some help coming up with a setup for him to use.
Ideally something with a capacity of 2TB or more where i can dump in all the stuff he usually watches (old western movies, nazi movies and series about lawyers hehe) and then he can just use a remote and browse what he wants.

Was looking at android boxes with a 3.0 USB connection, and i was thinking that an android box+2tb har drive would be the best choice (if im wrong please let me know)

So far, this is what i have come up with as a setup for my pops:

https://www.amazon.es/Bqeel-Android-Quad-Core-Cortex-A53-Soporte/dp/B07PP5LPV6/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

and for external drive (even thou i have a couple but i thought i would buy a new one,you know fresh start and all that) i was thinking of getting this:

https://www.amazon.es/WD-Elements-Disco-Externo-port%C3%A1til/dp/B06W55K9N6/ref=sr_1_3?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=2M6V91U2GON2O&keywords=disco+duro+externo+2tb&qid=1582580873&sprefix=disco+duro+e%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-3

or

https://www.amazon.es/Toshiba-Canvio-Basics-Port%C3%A1til-Pulgadas/dp/B07994QL95/ref=sr_1_4?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=2M6V91U2GON2O&keywords=disco+duro+externo+2tb&qid=1582580873&sprefix=disco+duro+e%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-4

Links in spanish, sorry im from Spain so that is the ones i came up with.

Well anyway, thanks in advance for all the help.
Apologies for any grammar, punctuation or errors in sintaxis, english isnt my native language and the english i know i learned by playing mmos hehe.

cheers
