Xiaomi Mi Box S - Should I update to Android 9 Pie?

by GSRoTu

I just got mine from Walmart. It is on Android 8.1. I want Dualshock 4 support but I am afraid of all of the bug concerns regarding the update. I heard a factory reset right after the update fixes these issues. Is this true? Will it fix ALL of the issues?

I’m using the Mi Box S on 9.0 and haven’t had any problems. Ironically, I was having problems when it was on Oreo.

Bug central for me - especially Hulu and ESPN.

Factory reset didn't fix it for me, either.

Finally saw some app updates download today (including Chromecast), so we will see what happens.

I did a factory reset and ended up with different issues than before the reset. I think it's just luck of the draw.

My current issues are:

  • have to reset the box every day or it slows down
  • can't use 4k resolution

Beware of updating as you will gain nothing. I did and sometimes the device works normally but mostly there is no wifi connection unless I pull the power plug and wait for several seconds then re-plug and wait for wifi. It's been more than a month now and I tried everything with no success.

if you use kodi, be aware that aspect ratio correction breaks after the update, and a factory reset doesn't solve the issue.

I have 2 of them . Once since Dec and no upgrade. It works great.

The second one came in Friday pm and I did the upgrade right away.

Yep it screwed it up...live tv is unwatchable Even doing a reset made no difference. You'd think Google would test this stuff before they would release this on the pubilic....

As of Sunday night they are still 29 bucks so ordered #3 and #2 will be going back to walmart.

Chromecast doesn't work if I allow it to update, other than that, all the other things I use it for worked.

i have updated to android 9 pie but not sure why after that the Internet looks so slow. For example when I launched Youtube, it might need 20-30s to display those suggested channel/video for me. Reset once but looks still same

factory reset after the update to fix most issues. people who are saying to not update because of what they went through never factory reset their device.

  • Can't change volume when a Netflix item is playing (defaults to 100% volume).

  • Have to restart it every day because it grinds to a halt

  • Had to factory reset because chromecast stopped with (works again now)

  • Twitch app gone, but maybe that's for everyone?

  • Twitch chromecast drops sound every few seconds.

Gunner3210

Nope. I upgraded 4 devices in my home all at once. Fucked up everything. Voice search only works when there is no keyboard connected. My chromecast stopped working entirely.

2 of the 4 devices now regularly freeze every night. It’s my routine now to unplug the power and plug it back in before sitting down.

Fuck that shit. Stay on 8.

fckns

Yes. I've had zero issues and everything's good.
