My Hisense H8F got an Android TV update today!

It was to Android 9 with a security update as of Nov 2019... whomp whomp

It's still a decent secondary TV for the price I paid and I didn't get it just because it ran Android TV but damn these integrators really suck with updates.

Edit before anyone comments: Yes, I knew that Android updates on (most) non-Google hardware can be sporadic at best. Yes, I also know the Nvidia Shield is objectively the best Android TV device - my OG 2015 in another room is still running strong.

Casting from iPhone to MiBox S

Hey everyone,

I've got access to a MiBox S which works FANTASTIC on the TV.

Only thing is I own an iPhone and I'd like to cast music/mirror screen (since all the rest the mibox lets me cast easily like youtube netflix twitch which is all I rly use).

How do you easily mirror screen and/or cast music from apple music to the MiBox S?

Thank you!!

Using primary account but limited access?

How are most people handling their google account on their TV? I need to sign in for certain apps on my main account but do not want access to gmail, messages, and other sensitive apps. I have an account just for the TV but have no way to share Stadia for example.

USB 3.0 Stick for Android TV - Advice

Hi all, I want to buy an USB Stick to use as external storage for my Android TV. I will use it to install apps on it and I’m not sure what to get.

I assume it has to have good speeds for writing and reading small files and have good longevity when used constantly to read and write data.

I’m based in UK and I was looking at Samsung Fit plus, Samsung bar plus and Patriot supersonic rage elite gen. 1. They seem fine but the writing speed when it comes to small files is not great (from what I’ve seen in some reviews). Also, some people reported devices overheating which I believe it’s not great and will decrease the life of the device...

I’m also thinking about a portable SSD but most of them come in very large capacity and I can’t justify the price...

Would you be able to help me with some recommendations?

Thank you!

Kind regards,

I can finally use Google Assistant to control my AndroidTV and its Built-In Chromecast

I have a 2015 Sony Bravia with AndroidTV and built-in Chromecast as well as some Google Home speakers. For years I've tried this simple command: "OK Google, Play Stranger Things on Netflix on TV" and for years I would get this annoying response:

"Okay, 'Stranger Things' from Netflix, playing on TV. ... Sorry, I can't play Netflix on AndroidTV yet. Try using your Android TV remote instead."

Apparently this has worked fine with actual Chromecast devices, just not AndroidTV's that have built-in Chromecast. Very annoying and poorly handled, I say.

I made a video and started a thread about this 2 years ago, and others concurred.

I eventually gave up.

Today, on a whim, I tried it again, and, for THE FIRST TIME EVER, it worked! I'm not sure when they (Google? Netflix? Sony?) got around to fixing this, but they did. So I thought I'd share.

Xiaomi Mi Stick pre purchase doubts

Hello everyone. Hope this Q is not much of a bother.. I'm seriously interested in buying this device, BUT, I really need it to work with all those IPTV services going round..

Does anyone use it for this? Does it work fine? What apps can I use with it?

TIA!

Edit: This is my first array at IPTV, and I really don't know much about it.

Google Duo disappeared!

I was having fun testing out duo on my Android TV. I went to launch it today and couldn't find it (normally it would be under all apps). I thought my kids must have uninstalled it. Went to reinstall it and it is definitely still installed. I just have no way of launching it now. Clever google!

Mi Box S 4K playback any good?

Hi all!

I'm getting a new 4K tv for the bedroom to replace my 10 yr old 1080p tv. We decided that my kids will get the old tv. I have an old Mi Box connected to it that I've been very happy with, but that will also follow the old tv.

Is the Mi Box S any good for 4K playback from streaming services (netflix, disney+ and others)? I have one of the older Nvidia Shield models (2015 I think?), but I dont feel like spending ShieldTV money if the Mi Box will do the job.

If the Mi Box isnt up to the task, guess I'll have to grab a Shield TV.

(I am aware of the new sabrina stick from Google, but generally these things are a year later to come to norway, if at all..)

PS4 Dualshock 4 controller not working on Hisense H8G

I have been trying to get my PS4 controller to work on my Hisense H8G, but there’s 0 input after pairing it with the TV. And when I try to use the Button Mapping app from the Play Store it asks me to activate it through the Accessibility section in Settings, but there’s no option from the app there.

Is there a workaround I can use?

Sony Bravia 4k ur3 constantly gets stuck

I've got this TV last week. It worked fine for a week and now I'm getting this issue. And I'm seriously considering just sending it back.

It turns on works as expected for a couple of minutes and then it gets just stuck and doesn't respond to anything. Until you unplug it and wait a couple of minutes and plug it in again... And then it starts all over again.

I've tried everything... Factory reset, updates(thinking it might be trying to update the software on the background and getting stuck) , unplugged everything, disconnected the Internet.... Nothing worked and I'm officially open for suggestions.

I appreciate every bit of help or any suggestions you have.

update The issue seems to be caused by one of the HDMI ports. hopefully it keeps working.

Can anyone with an Android TV check if you can download Xbox or Xbox Beta app

Currently have 3 Xboxs at home. With remote play now on the Xbox app I can just use one and stream to my other 2 TVs. This would be a dream if Xbox app is on Android TV.

Stream TV audio TO airplay speakers

Hi,

I'm pulling my hairs on this one. I though it would be a quick Google search but nope.

I recently bought a TV with Android TV (Xiaomi 4S 55) and I would like to have a better sound. The easy way would be a soundbar but I already have a Symfonisk (Sonos) speaker and it'd would be great to be able to use it (without forking 450€ for the Sonos Beam...).

I've found plenty of Android apps that can mirror/cast/... to an Apple TV through Airplay 2 but nothing so far (or seemingly) to broadcast FROM the TV to Airplay speakers.

It seemed basic but obviously not so much :(

Anyone in a similar spot ?

So just like android phones we'll have to buy new TV boxes every 2/3 years due to lack of software support?

Also android tvs will be really bad choice if this happens as we can't change anything once support drops so buying tvs every 2/3 years is ridiculous.

What are your views on this?

Disney+ on my Philips television has big issues with loading all the tiles.

So I have just closed a chat with Disney+ regarding my issue. We went a long way in basic troubleshooting, like not only power of my TV, but also unplug and drain power. The app is version 1.9.1 and just got released in Norway. No issues on my phone, but big issues on my TV. The app has been force closed, data removed and app uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. Same issue.

The issue is as follows. You open the app, choose your profile and boom – you've got your front page / dashboard with all tiles loading. Just below the banner, you have Disney, Pixar, Marwel, Star Wars and National Geographics. If you enter one of them, the first row of tiles load. After a few seconds the second row of tiles follow. Then it's over. Nothing more loads and you cannot watch anything below the second row.

One solution so far is to force close the app, open the app, choose profile, pick for instance Disney and just in the split second you press OK to enter Disney... You press down multiple times until you reach the bottom row before it is done loading anything. Then every row is OK as long as you don't go back to the front page and back into Disney. If you go back to the front page and choose Pixar, you immediately have to click down multiple times before it actually has started loading anything. You need to be at the bottom when it loads or you will just get the first and maybe the second row (both visible just by entering).

Anyone else with Android TV has this issue? My Android version is 8.0.0.

Anyone using a StreamTV box from FiOS?

I received it as a promotion, and it seems like Android TV inside a Verizon branded box. Anyone use one? Its hard to find much info on it. I'm used to stock experiences (Pixel 2 as my phone) so I was wondering if anyone was aware of any differences?

For example, if I side load an app, or decide to stream something through the Chromecast - does is that all data that Verizon gets, or does that somehow stay with Google if anything at all.

I did get the Nielsen message, can't opt out Afaik.
