Force orientation?

Hi,

I have sideloaded an app (UK allfour streaming) to my TV that get's it's orientation wrong.

The main interface (where you select which video to play) is rotated by 90 degrees which is not ideal for a TV.

When you start playing a video it assumes the proper orientation though...

Is there any way to force orientation on apps that were not built for Androidtv?

Many thanks.

Mi Box 3, Telebee version - stuck at recovery, can't find a working image to flash

UPDATE: To any unfortunate soul trying to solve the same issue in the future - just let the system auto load the update by naming the global rom image "update.zip" and put a "xiaomi_update" file with "--update_package=/udisk/update.zip" on your flash drive. Then power on while pressing back + OK. For some reason, the recovery interface doesn't work with those zips. The global rom will fully work and Netflix will be available.

I got a Telebee version, which has slightly customized firmware. Unfortunately I didn't record the build number, but it was some version of Oreo which isn't available in the global rom, could barely find any reference to it online. Since that version couldn't launch Netflix, I wanted to try and install a global rom. Using "adb reboot recovery" I managed to start flashing an update.zip of the global version, but it crashed after flashing the bootloader.

As of now, I can't boot the system - it immediately goes into recovery. I'd happily try to flash the rom directly using the AMLogic tool, but I can't figure out how to boot the unit into the proper mode - pushing back+ok does nothing and did nothing previously, which is why I had to reboot to recovery using adb.

Any advice would be appreciated. At the very least, I feel like a native Telebee rom would work, but I have no idea where to find an image. Or perhaps some info on how to get into the proper bootloader state for the AMLogic tool to work.

Image quality issues watching the Premier League on my new Android TV

Hi,

So I just got a new Sony Bravia 55” A8H and have been having issues with the image quality while watching PL matches using the built in android TV. I’m watching either via the YouTube TV or Peacock apps.

On close up shots, everything looks nice and crisp. But on the wide shots, which accounts for 60+% of match time, the image just feels blurry. The player numbers are almost not distinguishable and you can’t even tell how the ball is rotating.

I’ve adjusted every motion type setting and virtually every other setting (including the “reality creation”, sharpness especially) and nothing has affected the image.

When I tried to chromecast the game from my iPad to the TV it looked more crisp, but suffered from significantly lower FPS, so that isn’t an option either.

It’s weird because we tried a 65” LG OLED for a week but returned it as it was too damn big, but that tv had no issues with the PL on YTTV or Peacock. And when watching other football on my Sony, like the Bundesliga or La Liga on either YTTV or ESPN+ there are no blurriness issues. Also, there are no issues with watching other sports like ice hockey on the TV. It’s literally just the PL image quality.

Has anyone else noticed this or have an idea on how to combat this?

Thanks

Edit: I wasn’t sure if this was the right place to ask, but figure it’s a good place to start.

Program Sony XBR-85X900H Controller IR Functions

So, I just bought a Sony TV, and the remote connects via Bluetooth instead of IR. Which is nice, except that my soundbar only works via IR, so I need to use two remotes which is annoying. In the research I've done online, it seems there's a way to use an IR function of the remote to control a cable box. I don't have a cable box, but if I can turn on the IR function of the controller, I can program my soundbar to those signals.

Does anyone know how to set this up? I don't have a cable box, so I haven't been able to follow the steps I've found online.

This is my first time posting in this subreddit, if there's a better place to post this question, let me know.

Smart TV vs TV box (image quality)

Hi everyone, I just bought a 2020 LG smart tv on amazon, right now I have a 2012 LG. A question arose, has the image quality improved in native streaming from a smart tv? If I compare the Netflix quality of the 2012 smart tv, it looks very bad, dull colors and does not reach the sharpness that is seen with the xiaomi mi box s on the same tv. Right now I don't know whether to buy another xiaomi mi box for this new 4k TV. Thanks everyone for your help!

Accessing Recovery or Flashing GApps to chinese market android tv (Sony X95H)?

I have an X95H for the domestic mainland market. Same great set and I've managed to sideload most of the necessary appropriate apps (netflix, kodi, plex, aptoide, etc.), however I can't get google services, framework, play store, etc. to function via sideload installs. I'd like to move away from my fire stick or avoid the purchase of shield pro if possible.

When I adb via network and execute a reboot to recovery the tv blacks out and loses adb connection. I had to do a factory reset after one attempt and reload my various APKs. Goal is to install it similar to the method used on phone with lineageOS (flash via TWRP) or sideload minimum required APKs to get functionality (similar to older Fire tablet workaround).

The TV won't allow me to flash an non-mainland firmware build. I've tried hong kong, taiwan, and US builds; the CNA build is about 200mb smaller on average than other market builds (lack of google service core?).

Does anyone have experience accessing recovery on a newer Bravia or general experience on getting Gapps functioning where excluded from a build?

Small REMOTE to control Android TV ?

Hi all.

I've got a Sony XBR X930e TV with built in Android TV. We're switching from Comcast to YouTube TV. My wife likes the Xfinity X1 remote (which we'll have to turn in) but she's not crazy about the Sony TV remote that we'll have to use going forward (it's a bit too "busy" for her). We do have an old Harmony One remote, but it doesn't always play nice with the Sony.

I'm looking for a nice, small, easy remote to use with Sony's built-in Android TV (for YouTube TV in particular). Anyone have suggestions? Anything you currently use and like for this function?

Thanks!

Q: What's the purpose of the sync setting for Cal, Contacts, etc on my Sony Android TV?

Hey All,

I've Googled all over the place to find an answer to this, but can't seem to find one – hence me creating this account and asking here.

I noticed tonight after poking around my TV settings, that under my Accounts & Sign In -> My G Account... that Calendar, Contacts, Google Play Music, and Peoples were set to sync. (Oddly Google TV was set to Off) Why is this? What the purpose of my TV having access to these?

Out of precaution I turned these to Off. Is this just for the TV or for my Google Account as a whole?

I'm looking for some explanation/help. Thanks!

Putting Android tv in google home speaker group

Did anybody have luck with that in recent days? I know it was a thing sometime last year but they took it off silently and theres no option for that now(dont understand why though). It was possible via installing the Chromecast beta app on the tv. They used to advertise it would be possible soon but in the tech community soon can mean a lot of things hahah.

Id very very much would love to be able to have my tv added to speaker group as i love the surround around my house when playing some tunes.

Thanks for any comments or shared infos. Cheers people.

Looking for a media player with suitable subtitle features

Hey,

I am playing movies from my PC on my Android TV. I am looking for a player that enables me to play subtitles in my movie collection (browsing them from the folder without having to rename them).

I have tried so far:

  1. Kodi - did not detect the subtitle files in the folders
  2. Kodi spin off SPMC - same as above
  3. Archos - did not find my media library
  4. VLC - subtitles are are located and recognized fine but lag up the movie when played.
  5. Plex and Emby - require me to set up a server on my PC, and if I recall correctly, one of them requires an account which made me wary of trying them; googling also resulted in them having similar subtitle issues as above
  6. mx player - did not locate my library
  7. BS Player, CnX Media player were not available on my device

So far, I'm out of ideas - is there any player I may have missed that would have a simple way of browsing subtitles like VLC but not have them lag up the video when played.

HiSense H6510G, Chromecast w/Google TV, and DolbyVision

Hi! I just got a new 65" H6510G, and I'm trying to use a Chromecast w/Google TV, which is connected to HDMI1. When I use the TV's built-in apps, I get DolbyVision from Netflix, HBO Max, and so on, and when scrolling through e.g. Netflix, programming that has DV available shows as such.

However, when I switch to the CCwGTV, items only show as "HDR," and I do not get DolbyVision displayed on the TV. I have verified that the CCwGTV does support DolbyVision.

Has anyone used a similar combination? If so, did you have to do anything to get DV working?
