Mi Box 3, Telebee version - stuck at recovery, can't find a working image to flash

by alexiw

UPDATE : To any unfortunate soul trying to solve the same issue in the future - just let the system auto load the update by naming the global rom image "update.zip" and put a "xiaomi_update" file with "--update_package=/udisk/update.zip" on your flash drive. Then power on while pressing back + OK. For some reason, the recovery interface doesn't work with those zips. The global rom will fully work and Netflix will be available.

I got a Telebee version, which has slightly customized firmware. Unfortunately I didn't record the build number, but it was some version of Oreo which isn't available in the global rom, could barely find any reference to it online. Since that version couldn't launch Netflix, I wanted to try and install a global rom. Using "adb reboot recovery" I managed to start flashing an update.zip of the global version, but it crashed after flashing the bootloader.

As of now, I can't boot the system - it immediately goes into recovery. I'd happily try to flash the rom directly using the AMLogic tool, but I can't figure out how to boot the unit into the proper mode - pushing back+ok does nothing and did nothing previously, which is why I had to reboot to recovery using adb.

Any advice would be appreciated. At the very least, I feel like a native Telebee rom would work, but I have no idea where to find an image. Or perhaps some info on how to get into the proper bootloader state for the AMLogic tool to work.

Are you Korean?

Telebee is a Korean outfit that re-labled Xiaomi MiBox MDZ-16-AB.

You should be able to flash ANY suitable zip update designed for MDZ-16-AB.

Plenty of them to be found in this subreddit, just look back to 2019 posts.

Likely you will need at least Oreo 8 version update. The system will seek out most recent OTA update and prompt you to update. You will need to positively affirm you wish to update. OTA is Oreo 8.1 version.

Good luck
