Q: What's the purpose of the sync setting for Cal, Contacts, etc on my Sony Android TV?

by QuickFix64

Hey All,

I've Googled all over the place to find an answer to this, but can't seem to find one – hence me creating this account and asking here.

I noticed tonight after poking around my TV settings, that under my Accounts & Sign In -> My G Account... that Calendar, Contacts, Google Play Music, and Peoples were set to sync. (Oddly Google TV was set to Off) Why is this? What the purpose of my TV having access to these?

Out of precaution I turned these to Off. Is this just for the TV or for my Google Account as a whole?

I'm looking for some explanation/help. Thanks!

- Some calendar apps for Android TV need access to your Google calendar if you want to manage it and to display notifications, though Android TV notifications seems to be limited to the system itself, I haven't seen any app using that.

- Contacts is used for apps like Duo to be able to call them just like you would do with your phone, provided you added yours to http://contacts.google.com

- Before Google Play Music shut down, turning ON that option would sync your playlist, recent played songs, etc., across all your devices.

- I guess peoples is the same as contacts.

They are completely harmless if you leave them ON.

Thanks much for the quick response!

Seems like an odd thing to turn on by default if they aren't used commonly. Oh well... I guess I'll just leave them off since I won't be using any of those options.
