No option for changing audio output in Prime video android TV app

Almost all the prime video titles I've visited shows the "5.1" icon, but there's no option for choosing it once I've started playing any of them. Is there any fix?

"Upload logs failed" pop-up on Tivo Stream 4k

I just picked up a Tivo Stream 4K, and I'm seeing an occasional message popping up: "upload logs failed."

I've tried turning off notifications for a few system apps to no avail (although I did seem to turn off some noisy analytics) The message is only up occasionally and only for a second, but I'd like to turn it off some how.

It doesn't seem to be connected to a particular app (I've seen it in a couple of different ones), but I suspect it's something complaining about not getting through the PiHole.

Any thoughts?

Edit: I was wrong about the anaylics. Requests to api.amplitude.com are still hammering away.

Hisense Android TV not Chromecast/Google Home friendly - What am I doing wrong?

Our TCL Roku TV died, and got a good deal on a Hisense Android TV (H651OG). I have an Android phone, and used Google products for a lot of things, so I figured it would be an easy transition.

Our a Roku did the basics well. I could cast to it, or turn it on/off with Google home routines, etc.

But with this TV, I can't do much. I could cast to it at first, but I changed the TV name on the TV and when i wouldn't cast, I removed it from Google home, but it's not even visible anymore from my phone or PC.

Any ideas what is going on, or what I'm missing? Google has it's little bugs that are annoying, but for the most part, their stuff works pretty seamlessly. This is the opposite of that.

Black levels lightened recently on Chromecast with Google TV?

I only noticed this within the last couple days, where any letterboxed content no longer has inky black bars on my plasma, rather dark gray. It's not just the bars, it's the whole image, blacks are no longer black. I thought maybe my plasma was going through one of those lightning phases that Panasonic's supposedly go through, but upon further investigation the exact same content remains inky black and beautiful when running through my PlayStation 4. I thought maybe it was isolated to the HDMI input on my receiver, but plugging the Chromecast into the PS4 port yielded the same lightened blacks.

Has anyone noticed anything like this lately? It's such an odd thing to appear out of nowhere, and I still feel like I'm going crazy, but it's a night and day difference when I play the same show on the two devices, and that definitely wasn't the case a couple weeks ago.

Choosing a decent box

I never had a smart tv box, and I thought it's about time to get one.

Until to this day, I manily used my PS3 to stream movies via UMS to my TV, and my laptop connected with HDMI cable to the TV to view netflix and youtube.

I'm looking for a box that will:

  1. Be able to stream movies through media server on my PC
  2. Run netflix and youtube
  3. Be able to use wired ethernet cable.
  4. High quality performance (no lagging issues, strong enough to run 4k movies etc).

I researched through the entire web for a box to suit my needs and ended up very confused because it looks like every box has poor hardware, buggy OS, crashing apps, etc..

My thoughts so far:

  1. NVIDIA Shield (2019) - Looks like having the best performance, but I noticed it has only 2GB ram and 8GB storage (only 4.5 usable), isn't it too low for its cost? [Cost 200$]
  2. Xiaomi Mi Box S - Sounds pretty ok but very buggy, performance is not like nvidia shield, however does its work. also have 2gb ram and 8gb storage. wired adapter can be used [Cost 90$]
  3. Google chromecast with Google TV - Sounds like the xiaomi, but less buggy. wired adapter can be used like the xiaomi [100$]
  4. Roku Ultra - Sounds better than xiaomi and google chromecast even though it has the same specs, but currently is unavailable in my country.
  5. Transpeed x88 (Chinese) - Amazon sells it and it's also being sold by Aliexpress. It has many models with different specs. e.g. 4gb ram and 32gb storage. It sounds pretty cool but I watched a YT review on this one, and its temps go like 100 while watching videos, quite risky.

IMO the best candidate is the NVIDIA Shield. the Pro version costs 70$ more, but not sure if the upgrade worths the extra cost?

If you have a suggestion for one of these models, or a better model to suggest, please do. Thanks!

Shield TV still worth it?

I'm in the need of a new TV box. I currently have a Roku, but I don't like the direction they are headed. I always wanted a shield TV, but I'm wondering what its future is with google TV now available. I want something I can run emulators on as well as streaming services.

Does anyone have any experience with using Microsoft Xbox Series X Wireless Controller or any other controller with Sony Android TV via Bluetooth and GeForce Now?

Sony TV suddenly requesting DHCP every 40 seconds when off and 10 minutes when on.

Something changed on my X930 Sony Bravia TV as of March 31 or April 1st. It is now requesting a new IP address every 40 seconds when the TV is off and every 10 minutes when it’s on. When it requests a new IP address it opens a bunch of connections to servers out on the Internet and sometimes it will turn on my audio receiver. Basically though the TV is never going to sleep.

In the past I’ve seen it do this when the TV is off, but never while the TV is on and never at this frequency. It has always stopped when the TV is on and usually stopped when the TV was off after a day or two.

I’ve tried pulling the plug, but that made no difference. The only change I can see is that one of the Google apps updated on March 31 so I wonder if that’s the cause.

At this point though the TV has over 100 active connections to Google’s servers.

Mi box 3 freezing fix after android 9 update.

Mi Box 3 freezing solution after wake up.

Hello everyone. Still having issues from the android 9 update with your mi box 3 freezing video after turning it on while away. Well I have to since Christmas and it’s been bugging me. So I’ve been playing and figured out an easy work around to keep it working and 4 days later still works. Not perfect fix but a fix. Turn off sleep mode. 😴
Directions...
-Top right of Home Screen go to settings. -Scroll down to device preferences. -Scroll down to screen saver. -Scroll to put device to sleep. -Click on never. Now go ahead and back out to your Home Screen and it should work just fine. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Mi TV STICK Revival

With january 2021 firmware update, i could revive mi mi TV stick unusable since previous update.

First, i will reveal that the way i revived it confirmed my suspissions : the previous firmware had bad thermal management or was pushing the hardware out of thermal bound.

First difficulty was to update with thermal issue.

To bypass this issue:

  1. i removed the cover to expose the heatsink (like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrPR-LJpE4w)
  2. i cooled the device by putting to contact with heatsink a freeze block
  3. After successfull boot, i reset the device
  4. i made first confuguration in order to allow update
  5. after reboot, i made the update

Now my device is working reliably

Update via ADB

I have an LG 47G2 Google TV running Android 4. I found out how to enter the recovery mode for the TV.

Unplug the TV and plug it back it to keep it at shutdown.
Press and hold the Settings button.
Press and hold the Channel Down button.
Release the Settings button then the Channel Down button. (Not at the same time)

My question is how do I update Android via the Android Debug Bridge in recovery?

Need suggestion for an android tV ($400 budget)

Hi. What's the best Android TV that I can get with the following spec:

  • Full HD (or above)
  • 32 - 43 inches
  • LED (preferably IPS)
  • Budget: $400 or below

What I'm using it for:

  • PS4/PS5
  • Streaming (Netflix, Youtube, etc)

Currently, I'm looking at Mi TV 4S 43 inches. But it's not an IPS panel and I couldn't find any display unit since it is not sold locally. So I'm looking for a better alternative (or maybe Mi TV 4S is good enough?)

My Nvidia Shield TV remote came broken but I'm willing to purchase a remote if it does solid voice search SPECIFICALLY in any browser side-loaded or not in shield or fire tv or anything else!

Id prefer a mini wifi/bt keyboard with mouse STYLE like Rii I8 (not airmouse) for this but understand this is probably asking a lot

Is it possible to use Google assistant or voice search from a remote in an Android TV BROWSER?

What is the best hardware/remote/method to achieve voice command searching browser on Android tv type devices?
