Sony TV suddenly requesting DHCP every 40 seconds when off and 10 minutes when on.

Something changed on my X930 Sony Bravia TV as of March 31 or April 1st. It is now requesting a new IP address every 40 seconds when the TV is off and every 10 minutes when it’s on. When it requests a new IP address it opens a bunch of connections to servers out on the Internet and sometimes it will turn on my audio receiver. Basically though the TV is never going to sleep.

In the past I’ve seen it do this when the TV is off, but never while the TV is on and never at this frequency. It has always stopped when the TV is on and usually stopped when the TV was off after a day or two.

I’ve tried pulling the plug, but that made no difference. The only change I can see is that one of the Google apps updated on March 31 so I wonder if that’s the cause.

At this point though the TV has over 100 active connections to Google’s servers.

Have you tried holding the power button on your remote until the tv powers off and back on. That’s a reboot.
Also. Try deleting the app in question maybe it has a glitch

So the TV had been requesting DHCP every 10 minutes or less for 4 days and suddenly 4 hours ago it stopped. I have no idea why.

In case anyone reads this in the future, I think either IPV4 on the TV is broken or it doesn’t work properly when IPV6 is available, but not working properly.

I’ve found that this issue occurs when IPv6 is having issues renewing IP addresses. Why that would affect IPV4 I have no idea since I have native IPV6 (not tunneled), but it’s related to IPv6.
