Shield TV still worth it?

by donnysaysvacuum

I'm in the need of a new TV box. I currently have a Roku, but I don't like the direction they are headed. I always wanted a shield TV, but I'm wondering what its future is with google TV now available. I want something I can run emulators on as well as streaming services.

2019 pro version for the win. I switched from Roku devices last year and will not look back. Much nicer. All the major streaming services are on there and work, emulation is good, in home game streaming from a PC is even better.

100% @ emulators and any of the other extra capabilities you cant get or dont work near as well on lower spec devices. Dont waste your time with the tube. That extra $50 for the pro version is worth every cent.

You can run smoothly nearly every emulator on any of the following Android TV boxes except the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube consoles, where they should run correctly on the Shield since it's they most powerful so far:

I've had the same shield tv since 2015. It's still updated. It's still on the main tv of my house. And when it finally does die, it'll be immediately replaced with the latest model.

Out of interest, what is the concern with Roku?

Shield? Definitely. If you're looking for hd movies etc just sideload Cyberflix or Cinema HD. But the Shield is definitely the way to go depending on your budget. For good value that try one of the newer Mecool devices.

I bought one yesterday for the first time.

My little Minix TV runs much cooler than my 2019 Shield which burned out after the warranty expired. Fool me once....

The Minix does everything well.
