Bravia google assistant question...

Not sure if anyone here might know, but I have an A90J and trying to send commands via Google Home to do things like switching inputs for the TV usually work. However, going to specific sections like opening up Settings or going to the Home screen on the TV don't seem to function.... Thoughts?

Does Google dislike Dolby?

When Play Movies and TV service launched, Google chose HE-AAC as the official audio codec instead of Dolby Digital Plus, I remember many users complaint about this decision, so they end up supporting Dolby Digital Plus after all though Dolby Atmos metadata is still not supported. HE-AAC is still used as an optional codec.

YouTube has never supported Dolby Audio, instead, Google chose AAC-LC as the audio codec for multichannel audio, however, this codec is transcoded to Dolby Digital by some Smart TVs when using the HDMI-ARC port or the SPDIF port; unfortunately, external boxes don't perform this transcoding so they must be connected to a multichannel AV receiver in order to get multichannel PCM. Currently, multichannel audio on YouTube seems to be capped or limited to an unknown number of devices, it was supported on web browsers, game consoles but they just downmix the audio to stereo. The only Android TV box that still seems to be supporting this is the Nvidia Shield. Dolby Digital patents already expired according to its Wikipedia page: "In Dolby's 2005 original and amended S-1 filings with the SEC, Dolby acknowledged that "Patents relating to our Dolby Digital technologies expire between 2008 and 2017. The last patent covering AC-3 expired March 20, 2017, so it is now generally free to use". That means Google can start using Dolby Digital on YouTube because it's now free.

Music streaming services have started to support lossless Hi-Fi audio, Tidal, Deezer, Spotify and Amazon Music already offer that audio tier, with Tidal and Amazon Music supporting Dolby Atmos Music. Now Apple just seems to be readying the service to also support HiFi audio, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Audio.

Apple Music may soon feature support for lossless HiFi audio, Dolby Audio

Google Play Music never offered a HiFi audio tier while YouTube Music still offers a single lossy AAC tier. Even music uploaded to the service in lossless formats such as FLAC, are converted to AAC afterwards.

Will Google follow suit?

I know part of the reason relies on licencing costs but is that an impediment for Google?

Remote won't work in Youtube TV app

Brand new Chromecast with Google TV. Remote works no issue any screen, any app, except Youtube TV. Main screen where you click Free Trial or Log In, I can't use the arrow keys to navigate at all. It's just not there. I can still use home button, back button, voice, etc, but the directional and OK buttons do nothing inside only this specific app.

I even tried downloading the offical Google Chromecast Remote App. Same thing, works everywhere except the arrows and OK do not work in the Youtube TV app.

I've tried factory resetting, clearing cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, making sure all other apps and services are up to date, resetting the remote, nothing seems to work.

I can even chromecast Youtube TV from my phone to the unit, but obviously when you back out it just disconnects the chromecast and I'm back to the screen where I can't use the directional buttons to log in.

I've tried searching around but can't find anyone with this problem at all. Anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT: looks like they fixed it!!

Chromecasts won't pull April update

Hello, still stuck on the December 2020 security update and build QTS2.200918. I know there was a big update last week and after rebooting multiple times and also disabling blocking altogether on my pihole I can't seem to pull the update on either of the two chromecasts that I have. Been having issues with the wifi performance and I've read this should help.

Am I missing something such as a gradual rollout or a beta program I'm supposed to be in?

Thanks in advance.

Just got my first Android TV today (raspberry pi 4). I have a large hard drive on my desktop with a bunch of movies. How I can watch the movies on my android TV without having to do anything on my desktop?

Is there a way just to watch the movies on my computer from my android TV? I know I can do things like turn screen mirroring on at my PC or something like that, but I'd like to be able to just play a movie from the android TV without having to get up and go over to my desktop.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

Service to play music videos without hassle

Hello everyone, I just got a chromecast for my mom and I want to set it up so it is as easy as possible to use.

What I want to do right now is provide her with a service, MTV-style, where music videos play one after another. I know youtube playlists would be an option but those are static, and even the youtube music Top 40 lists aren't also great because they always start at the same song. Do you have any suggestions for a method to get curated music videos without having to set up personal playlists?

TLDR; I am looking for an Music Channel style service to use on Android TV

Netflix channel missing on Home screen - Xiaomi Mi Compact Projector

Hi,

I just write because there is a feature that I'm missing on my Xiaomi Mi Compact Projector (running on Android TV 9).

I can't activate the "Nextflix channel" on home screen. There is no toggle in the channels choice menu.

I speak about the 3rd line on this photo:

I also have a Nvidia Shield and the the Netflix channel line perfectly appears. Is there a solution to get it on my Mi Projector ?

Thanks,
