Adding storage to TCL Android TV

Hello I am trying to add ssd to my android TV but here is the issue: When I plug my ssd it shows as removable storage and when I click on the disk it give me the option to "erase & format as removable storage" and no option for formatting as internal storage.

I tried different cables, drives, formatting the disk from my pc.

My TV running. Android TV version 11.

Anyone had this issue before.

edit: after many restarts and diffrent cables and drives, i plugged the drive and got a notification on right side on home screen to setup device (no mention on formating as internal drive on settings just "setup device") and it worked

Miracast Receiver alternative on budget Android box

I can see similar questions have been asked but it's been nearly a year, so going to risk asking again.

I have a budget T65 Android TV box. It *does* have a miracast app ("Miracast Receiver") which shipped with the device. About 90% of the time, my windows 10 laptop fails to connect, though I have had better success with Android devices (box has a separate Chromecast function, so I can tell when which protocol is in use).

I would like to replace the native app with a better one, but I have read multiple warnings that this would require not only root but other under-the-hood changes that are apparently needed since Android 7, at which time some sort of additional security was added to Miracast. The installed Miracast Receiver is listed as a System App. Anyone have good suggestions where to go look for a fairly comphrehensive how-to? I'm pretty savvy but have not really delved into Android internals before.

Are there no new Android TV games in years?

We have a few nVidia Shield devices, and back in 2019 we scrolled through the Android 'Play' store for games and download and even bought a few (ex: Red Ball 4).

However, over the last few years checking out the store, there's literally nothing new. Ever. It's the same 30-ish games shown, and the individual search of titles always ends up with nothing special.

Am I missing something?

Can't be a dead platform, as Hungry Shark Evolution on Android TV gets constant updates.

Philips Android TV remote not working.

I have a Philips Android TV and I'm not sure where to post this question so I thought I might try here. The only button that is currently working on my remote is the Google assistant button. All the other buttons will make the remote's light flash but nothing happens on the TV. I cannot find anything online that is helpful. I've tried replacing the batteries, as well. Any ideas?

Phillips oled806 sound out through HDMI possible when using Android TV?

Stupid noob question but I have been trying google for hours with no clear answer.... Using Phillips OLED806 Smart Android TV and loaded KODI on it.

Would it be possible to hook up Dolby headphones through the HDMI EARC or at least HDMI ARC and have surround sound out of it when playing movies from KODI on the Android TV itself you think? Looking at buying an expensive headset like the JVC EXOFIELD and want to be sure.

P.S. Yes I live in a noisy environment so a headset is needed not a soundbar :(

Device for playing video files from an External Hard Drive/Flash drive/etc?

I've done some googling, but I'm not sure if an Android TV box is what I'm looking for or if there's another name for it. It seems like every device I've found just focuses on streaming online content instead of playing local files. Would be greatly appreciated if somebody could point me in the right direction!

Something that can do both would be fine of course, but playing media files off a drive is the main thing I'm after.

Thinking of switching LG 65NANO813 to Phillips w/ ambient light

Hi, so what the title says - I'm thinking of selling my LG tv and switching over to Phillips (not sure about the model yet, but this is more about the functionality). I'd love some thoughts on it guys.

So the reason behind it would be:

  1. Android OS over LG OS. Why - to use my VPN services now I really have to struggle, I bought FireTV stick so I could use my TV with Alexa and also have an option to switch between VPN servers quickly. Problem is, LG doesn't support Alexa (at least in my country, I know right?) so I cannot even turn TV on/off with voice. I can change Netflix shows or switch between Netflix and Prime, but that's something I don't really care about. Phillips TVs seem to work no problem with Alexa (not 100% sure but it looks like it) and has Android therefore I should be able to simply download VPN app (they have one for Android) and use it without FireTV (less cables, less remotes, less struggle);
  2. Ambient light. I've bought Govee lights with camera hoping that I can attach the LEDs and set the camera and I'll get the same or at least close result to pre-installed LEDs but it's far from reality - camera doesn't really catch all of the colours, it has a delay and overall experience is just not as I want it. TV which comes with ambient light sounds like a much better option here.

So the question is, do any of you have experience with Android OS vs LG OS and can asure me that I am correct and maybe any of use have Phillips with ambient lights and can confirm it is really worth a shot. Any opinions are highly appreciated, thanks!

Nextgen / ATSC 3.0

Hi...I'm in Houston and ATSC 3.0 has just been switched on. Our NBC affiliate channel now carries an interactive side menu where you can watch local news, weather, feature clips etc. at any time.

If I play one of these side menu clips, it starts ok but after 5 seconds I get an error message saying "No signal. Antenna not connected or program unavailable" and the picture slowly fades to the black waffle screen. The sound continues until the end of the clip.

Just teething issues? Model is Bravia 4K VH2 kernel 4.19.75 running Android 10

android tv crashes after enabling surface update and stuck on booting

So i was messing around in the developer options in my android tv (Ill post make and model soon.) I decided to enable the Flash window on surface update option. After doing this i went to enable surface bondries and as I toggled it on, my tv crashed and went black. I did the usual unplug and let it rest for 2 mins and now I've plugged it in and its been sitting on the rebooting animation for ages now (An hour.)

Is there any way to fix this? Factory reset from plug into pc? (I think ADB was enabled)

AndroidTV Box Suggestions?

Hi,

Anyone have suggestions? There's so many and I don't know what to choose.

This is what I know what I would want:

  • Google certified
  • Preferably USB 3 and or SD card capabilities. I torrent so putting videos on a USB or SD card to watch via box would be great.
  • Because of the videos I would play, multiple codecs would be needed.
  • At least 1080p. I saw that some Mecool boxes only have Netflix and Prime video streaming at 480p max?
  • In terms of streaming, I have all the regular ones such as Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, ESPN+, HBO, Peacock, etc
  • I've seen some boxes at 2 or 4 GB. Will it matter in the long run? I would like to use this for a long time.
  • In terms of price, I would consider anything under $100.
