I'm a few weeks into "cutting the cord" and getting some Google TV dongles and subscribing to YoutTube TV. It has been such a good change that I wonder why I didn't do this sooner! I'm struggling with one little difficulty though and that has to do with Google Assistant and routines. I usually have my bedroom television turn on the news to wake me up in the morning, so I get traffic/weather/news right away. Without signal-via-cable (and the TV timer), I'm relying on Google TV now. I am attempting to set a routine to turn on the TV and tune live to my local NBC station. Seems easy enough, no?
First try: hey google watch NBC on bedroom tv. This had mixed results. Sometimes it would turn on the TV, it would acknowledge "ok turning on NBC from YouTube TV on Bedroom TV. It would never show me live TV though.
Second try: : Hey google turn on Bedroom TV. Then Hey google watch NBC from Youtube TV on Bedroom TV. OK! TV is now on all the time, but no live TV, just the google TV live screen. After a little messing around, I found that if I go into YTTV app, there's my live show already playing. Ah ha...
Third try: Hey google launch youtube tv on bedroom tv. then hey google watch nbc from Youtube tv on bedroom tv" Eureka! TV turned on, and I got live TV.
I duplicated this downstairs, but it was easier as I have a harmony remote to deal with the TV. The living room works every time.
Back to the bedroom: this week google whined to me "I can't find NBC to play" or, back to turning on the TV but no live television.
This can't be this hard. Maybe I'm using the wrong types of commands? Anyone have some sure-fire hints on getting this going reliably? Is there maybe issues if the tv isn't completely done starting up (does HDMI even have a "not ready" signal?)? If so, how do I tell google to hang on for 10 seconds before sending next command?
