'Wifi not connected' on my Android TV

Hi all,

I recently bought an Acer Android TV. It's running Android 9. It's pretty awesome and the experience is smooth. I have been facing one issue though.

Sometimes I get a notification - 'Wifi not connected' even though the TV is connected to wifi network, and the signal strength is showing as Good. I have checked that this happens regardless of the number of devices connected to the router. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting to the wifi. Sometimes it works but other times it doesn't.

This is pretty frustrating as the stream gets paused due to apparent 'No connection' even though the TV is connected to the wifi network and the internet connection is not down.

Has anyone faced a similar issue? 👀👀

I would appreciate any leads on this issue.

Peace ✌️

EDIT 01: I checked the date and time and they are synced with my network. They are correct so probably that's not the issue in my case. Otherwise, it's a good thing to check if the date is off as that might be the cause of this issue.

Restoring Working Factory Menu on (Red) MI TV 50

I was experimenting with the Developer options and saw this option to the Factory Menu for the TV. It used to show Panel Info, etc on a separate blue Menu on the left side of the TV along with lot of options allowing to tweak the picture and sound presets. Unfortunately trying to unscrew some pq settings I may have reset or wiped the keys here and now it's mostly just a dummy menu and won't work any longer. Only thing that works on this hidden menu now is switching through pq presets. Tried a factory reset through the Android menu and it just reset the android os and the xiaomi menu remains dead. Do you think a reset via recovery menu might help? Maybe I fucked up the factory partition, any ideas to restore the same are welcome.

European looking for an Android TV box

Hi everyone,

I live in Portugal and I've been reading for maybe 2 weeks about boxes. I was going to buy the Mibox when I found out how outdated it is at the moment. So I wanted some advice but I also have several questions.

First of all, I want a box that besides allowing me to sideload apps (the latest Chromecast apparently doesn't allow so), also allows me to browse the internet with no ads so I can stream shows on a website. This website has ads and so far on my computer I can only block them with a- Chrome with Ublock or b- (best option) with Brave. I wish I could use Brave on android tv...

Second detail. Unfortunately I can't afford the Shield so after some reading I'm inclined to buy Youin. So I wonder if I can sideload a good browser that blocks ads and allows me to stream from a site.

Also I want to know if I'll have to buy a new remote with an airmouse to do this browsing (does it depend on the browser? I'm not buying Puffin...) and if so what would you recommend me.

Sorry for so many questions but there's a lot of info on the internet but not a lot of it seems to be precise.

Thanks!

Android TV YouTube Stuttering

Hi there.

I’ve purchased an Android TV (TCL 43P725) two days ago and it works fine but today I’ve tried playing YouTube video and it kept stuttering. I thought the issue was 4K video but it was the same for all quality content. Apparently I’ve found two year old thread saying to unplug the TV and plug it back on. Very weird fix but it worked. I was wondering if there are any fixes for this since it’s not very easy to do this “fix” all the time. Thanks.

Do I HAVE to use the Android TV iOS app? Can I just disable it and use the on screen keyboard?

I’m trying to browse my Paramount+ app, and whenever I try to search for something, instead of showing the on screen keyboard it tells me to use the keyboard on my mobile device. That app is honestly useless, and it’s a headache every time I try to pair my tv. So, I just want to use my on screen keyboard I don’t mind if it takes longer or whatever.

Is there any way to disable the mobile device keyboard pop up forever?

Thanks

Hulu native app sucks.

So I have 2 Android TV devices. One is a 2017 Nvidia Shield and the other is a "Google Chromecast with Google TV" (sabrina) Hulu is garbage on both of them..

On the Shield I have it hooked up to a 720p tv and sometime the video fails to play after the network splash before the episodes and subtitles are missing and the playback ui is all messed up, I assume it's due to the resolution as pausing and playback shows weird frames like the UI has no idea what resolution the TV is using. I triple checked that the Shield is using the correct resolution. I also tried clearing Hulu cache and resinstalling the app and still it's not working.

On the Sabrina (4k tv) device it's just a jittery mess for a lot of shows. It's unpleasant to watch.. The Shield also has jittery playback but it seems not as constant.

On both devices, using the Google cast feature and bypassing the native apps fixes all issues so I have to use my phone to control playback when we'd rather use a remote.

Anyone have a suggested fix?

Getting Assistant Routines to watch live TV

I'm a few weeks into "cutting the cord" and getting some Google TV dongles and subscribing to YoutTube TV. It has been such a good change that I wonder why I didn't do this sooner! I'm struggling with one little difficulty though and that has to do with Google Assistant and routines. I usually have my bedroom television turn on the news to wake me up in the morning, so I get traffic/weather/news right away. Without signal-via-cable (and the TV timer), I'm relying on Google TV now. I am attempting to set a routine to turn on the TV and tune live to my local NBC station. Seems easy enough, no?

First try: hey google watch NBC on bedroom tv. This had mixed results. Sometimes it would turn on the TV, it would acknowledge "ok turning on NBC from YouTube TV on Bedroom TV. It would never show me live TV though.

Second try: : Hey google turn on Bedroom TV. Then Hey google watch NBC from Youtube TV on Bedroom TV. OK! TV is now on all the time, but no live TV, just the google TV live screen. After a little messing around, I found that if I go into YTTV app, there's my live show already playing. Ah ha...

Third try: Hey google launch youtube tv on bedroom tv. then hey google watch nbc from Youtube tv on bedroom tv" Eureka! TV turned on, and I got live TV.

I duplicated this downstairs, but it was easier as I have a harmony remote to deal with the TV. The living room works every time.

Back to the bedroom: this week google whined to me "I can't find NBC to play" or, back to turning on the TV but no live television.

This can't be this hard. Maybe I'm using the wrong types of commands? Anyone have some sure-fire hints on getting this going reliably? Is there maybe issues if the tv isn't completely done starting up (does HDMI even have a "not ready" signal?)? If so, how do I tell google to hang on for 10 seconds before sending next command?

Game Streaming - Best choice - Chromecast with GoogleTV or Chinese Android TV box

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting something for my son to stream from his gaming PC here at my house to his mums house. (nvidia gfx card if it matters)

Not sure which streaming app to use, steamlink, nvidia gamestreaming or moonlight...

He'll be using it to also stream stuff like Plex and Netflix etc the usual.

What would be the best to use in this scenario? for around the same price I can get a proper Chromcast with Google Tv, or a cheapo chinese box running, what is presumably android 10 or 11.

Has anyone got any recommendations ... looking to be £50-100 max. needs usb to run a Xbox wireless receiver on it for joypad, so the shield tube thing is out of the question. I understand I could use a USB-C hub on the Chromecast to do this?

What are the positives and negatives about either type of box? I'm assuming that the chromecast is going to be significantly lower spec in terms of memory and storage, but also designed more efficiently. its not going to be used to run 'local' games on it so as long as its powerful enough to run the streaming apps without any stupid input lag it should be fine.

Thanks in advance.
