Android TV Box with Dolby Vision as a media server

I'm currently looking for a TV box that supports Dolby Atmos/Vision and has USB ports for expandable storage. I'm not going to be using any streaming services, I just want to load movies onto its storage and watch them through VLC media player. I was looking into Nvidia Shield TV and I liked it a lot, but the lack of USB port is pretty much a deal-breaker. SDHC is absolutely awful for this application, not only am I going to pay double for half the storage size I can get with HDD, it's also going to die much faster since I'll be writing and erasing data all the time. Nvidia shield tv pro seems to tick all of the boxes, but it seems like a bit of an overkill — I'm definitely not going to use it for any gaming. Any suggestions?

Really disappointed in Google for not providing day 1 os updates for the CCwGTV.

I bought this device thinking that Google would provide day one updates to the OS and maintain regular security updates for it, but the last update was in May. I thought ok maybe they are just planning on releasing 12 day 1 and working on that, but NOPE. Android 12 came out and here we are still waiting. Google mentioned in October that the features of 12 would be coming to the device in November. In December Google now says that they aren't coming until the "next few months"

Side-loaded Google TV on Android TV - Live TV guide error

I’ve side loaded Google TV to my Hisense H9G (Android TV) and everything works great except the one feature I side loaded this launcher for! I have live TV through YouTube and the tab is there. The guide even showed me live channels for the first couple of hours it was installed.

Overnight the guide is gone and my only option is to refresh the guide. This does nothing. I know I should expect issues with this launcher not being officially compatible with my TV, but it sure was interesting it worked for a little while at least. Has anyone else experienced this? My region is the United States if that is helpful.

Sony XBR55900H - Seeking Help

I bought a Sony XBR55900H last year. I have never personally run ADB or tried to root my tv or sideload any apps. The only apps I have manually downloaded have been from the Google Play Store and are standard streaming apps (Netflix, CraveTV, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, etc).

This is my first Android TV so I am still very new to the customization options and what these TV's are capable of. For the most part, I just play PS5 and outside of that watch YouTube or watch streaming applications. Outside of that, I do regular System Software updates when available if not done automatically.

Since buying the TV, I have noticed several new system apps on it being added as time goes on. Many of which when I do a factory reset are still there. The last system software update I did, I noticed some strange administrative privileges and admin apps. About two months after buying my TV I noticed when I am streaming apps or audio, there is additional voiceover on my TV. Is it possible my TV has been hacked? Many of these apps I don't have access to delete. Only some of them I can disable. Besides that all I can do is force stop an app, but it will just reboot itself again. I would

The last few weeks, I have been trying to self-educate myself on different avenues to getting access to remove apps - ADB, CLI, etc. I notice on XDA forums and GitHub you can download packages for Sony people have posted such as debloat your bravia etc etc. I haven't attempted to do any of this yet. I understand rooting or modifying your system apps manually voids your warranty and what not.

I am currently in the process of googling and trying to figure out which apps are necessary and which are arbitrary or which apps I should be suspicious about.

I am wondering if anyone knowledgeable can tell me if there is any underlying applications I should be aware of that wouldn't normally be available with standard Sony updates. Or even at least tell me what apps I should get rid of.

Here is a list of all of my apps on my TV (including system apps):

My Philips 4K Smart TV keeps saying it's connected to the router but no internet, as well as stops being accessible from Google Home.

So like the title says, my TV randomly seems to stop being accessible from Google Home control as well as suddenly saying it is connected to router with no internet. It says this, but at the same time can still stream Netflix, but no other apps. It clearly still has internet, but has just decided "fuck it".

Any suggestions how to fix this. It's conspicuous all these things happen at once.

Should bluetooth headphones reconnect automatically after the initial pairing on google tv?

I have a Sony KD-43X89J to which I paired Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones. I was wondering if everytime I want to reconnect them, I need to go in settings -> bluetooth -> connect. Or if they should, once turned on, automatically connect to the tv. I'm pretty sure I once turned on both my tv and my headphones (no idea in which order or if it matters) and the headphones connected to the tv automatically without me needing to go into settings.

Plex, Shield TV, LG CX, and DTS

I know this has been talked to death but I don't see any mention of this particular problem.

I have a barrel Shield TV, LG CX and Samsung Q950a sound bar configured like so:

Shileld TV -> LG CX -> Q950a via eARC.

The Shield TV audio settings only have Dolby selected, no DTS since the LG CX doesn't handle DTS or pass it through.

My understanding is that as long as DTS is turned off on the Shield TV any DTS audio should get transcoded to AAC 5.1 and sent through the TV then to soundbar through eARC.

This happens fine if I'm using the native LG WebOS Plex app. DTS sound is transcoded and plays.

With the Shield TV Plex app what I'm experiencing is that if on the TV I have All Settings -> Sound -> Additional Settings -> Digital Sound Out -> Auto the DTS audio is transcoded and played back fine. The problem is that Dolby TrueHD audio suffers from really bad drop-outs.

If the TV is set to All Settings -> Sound -> Additional Settings -> Digital Sound Out -> Passthrough Dolby TrueHD plays back flawlessly through the ShieldTV Plex app. BUT DTS is no longer transcoded and therefore doesn't play any audio track since doesn't handle it.

So it's almost like the Shield TV is still sending the audio to the TV as DTS and not transcoding even though I've told it the TV doesn't handle DTS in the Shield TV audio settings and should be transcoded.

And the TV isn't transcoding it unless All Settings -> Sound -> Additional Settings -> Digital Sound Out -> Auto. But then I get horrible drop-outs with TrueHD.

So:

TV Digital Audio Out set to Auto: Shield TV Plex DTS audio is transcoded and plays fine, terrible TrueHD dropouts

All Settings -> Sound -> Additional Settings -> Digital Sound Out -> Passthrough - Shield TV Plex TrueHD flawless, no audio for DTS tracks.

The LG WebOS Plex app transcodes DTS regardless (unfortunately I lose TrueHD as the CX doesn't do lossless audio).

It's not a BIG deal to switch back to the LG WebOS Plex client to play back DTS but it would be nice to get both DTS AND TrueHD working through the Shield TV Plex app.

I'm not sure if this is a Shield TV or LG CX limitation causing this.

Any suggestions or am I out of luck?

Receive DVB T2 signal on a Chromecast with Google TV

I just have a Chromecast with Google TV and a hub USB. I see that is possible to install the app "Live Channels" on the Google TV:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv

That's an app for devices with a tuner TV, to receive the DVB T2 signal. But Chromecast with Google TV hasn't a tuner tv.

The question is: it's possible to connect an external USB receiver to the Chromecast with Google TV? To receive the DVB-T2 signal?

I saw that there are some external receivers for smartphone or tablet, like this:

https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07FF4KHG1/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_NYKA9DMJZMH58SV058XE

Is there something similar for Android TV and Chromecast with Google TV? I'd like to see TV channels without internet connection.

Thank you to the people who will give me an answer!
