MX Player - can't find the codec file (only shows folders)

Trying to install custom codecs in the Decoder menu. Have them all in there, zipped and unzipped, will only show folders and no files. Tried search both on USB and on the TV hard disk, in the Download folder, still nothing.

I've seen videos where it shows files (as it should), but on mine it only shows folders, so impossible to select the codec file.

Google TV - Newest versions of app and custom codec

UPDATE - SOLVED

See comment about app file permissions. Change to allow all the time, will fix it

Android tv box that's closest to the Roku ultra?

Roku ultra I got for my grandparents up and died due to a power surge. So I'm getting them a new box for Christmas next week. But I know they love how my Shield has the ad free YouTube, but they don't need a shelf for what they do, I'm not sure what Android tv box is closest to the ultra since I know that's fine for them.

On my Google TV Chromecast Hulu is bugged and the dimming the end of episodes never goes away

The dimning at the end of episodes never goes away*

You have to manually pause and play to get the brightness back. This bug has survived a full uninstall and data deletion so I'm curious if anyone else is having troubles. The fix is pretty easy but it starts to get to you having to pause and play every single episode lol, especially when you're just trying to unwind

This is a picture of after working around the bug and what happens before pausing and playing. These are both part of the same scene in the same room

Thinking of switching from Mi Box S to Nvidia Shield Pro

I have run into a lot of problems with the Mi Box S. It works fine one day and the next you turn it on and the Wifi isn't showing up, the ethernet is no longer detected. It's annoying the fuck out of me and it isn't reliable.

I want to use it with an ethernet connection, Surfshark VPN and the following streaming services: S Sport +, DAZN, Mola TV. All I will use it for is streaming sports. Nothing else.

I am thinking of switching to the Nvidia Shield Pro. I want something reliable without the random disconnects. Is the Nvidia Shield reliable for this or might I run into the same issues?

Unusual Play Store auto-update behavior?

HBO Max recently updated their Android TV app so as to be unusable, imo. On an Android phone it is possible to install a previous version downloaded from apkmirror and the new app is detached from the Play Store and will never auto-update.

However, Android TV 10 (actually Chromecast with Google TV) appears to be automatically replacing the previous version with the latest version, regardless of where it comes from. Iow I cannot get the previous version to "stick."

Has anyone else noticed this or am I missing something? If I am right I don't think there is a solution. I am not going to change the package name with an apk editor.

Android TV sucks

Why is Android TV so bad? I tried to use Steam link to stream my PC games to my projector. Within the App I can Map the buttons of my bluetooth controller but Select is mapped to power off and Start is mapped to Home by default so everytime I want to setup the controller it turns off or exits the app. Playing a game without the option to pause sucks. In the Android settings I can't change anything just connect and good luck! I can't turn off the wrong mapping, I can't change to another mapping. Do I really have to buy another controller and hope the default button mappings work out?

btw this controller works fine with normal smartphone Android it's just Android TV acting up.

Casting a video from my phone to it also just sometimes works, but most of the time it just goes back to the homescreen when trying to connect without an error message!

And why is there no browser available that actually works for streaming content?

Am I the only one having those issues?

HDMI-CEC support in Dynalink Android10 TV Box?

Hi, I'm looking to get an AndroidTV box to pair with our Samsung UN55B6000 dumb TV, as a replacement for the current setup with a PS4 as the media player, which works fine, but unfortunately lacks several important apps. Dynalink Android10 TV looks promising, but I'm specifically interested in the quality of HDMI-CEC support. This is where PS4 really shines, allowing almost everything to be controlled with the TV remote, and only occasionally requiring the controller.

So, a couple specific questions:

  • How good is Dynalink's remote in terms of comfort and usability? Samsung's own (and the available 3rd party replacements) are mostly OK but honestly kinda crappy, and since I have no need for channel keypad (this TV is just a screen with no broadcast or cable hookup), I'd be very happy to ditch it for something with comfortable navigation buttons
  • Does the HDMI-CEC passthrough work for basic functions? Most importantly, do the volume controls apply to the TV and not just the box itself?
  • If the answer to any of the above is "no", can I turn it on by just selecting it in the TV's input source list, and will it show up in the list if the device is in standby? PS4 allows that, and it's one of the main reasons TV remote-only operation is feasible
  • Can the box's remote be used to switch HDMI input sources (I actually have no idea if that's even possible within CEC at all, I never used any other remote than TV's own with CEC)? That'd be ideal, since we have 3 consoles already hooked up (the box will be number 4), and other than the PS4, they all have flaky CEC support that necessitates explicit source switching every once in a while
  • Can it turn the TV off automatically on shutdown?

If there are any other issues with the box to be aware of, I'd appreciate hearing about them as well. The main apps I want to be able to use are YouTube, Netflix, Nebula and Curiosity Stream, something to play things off of the PC that sucks less than Plex, and Sporty's pilot training TV app.

Moonlight network input lag 100mbit vs 1gbit

I’m running moonlight on a Sony x900h and I get very noticeable input lag trying to run 4k/60. When I turn it down to 1080/120, it significant decreases input lag. I am running Ethernet on both my host pc and client. The tv only supports 100mbit though. Will input lag decrease if I add a usb to Ethernet gbit adapter or is it more of a decoding issue and may need something more powerful like a nvidia shield?

Audio passthrough in apps on CCwGTV

Anyone know why you can't enable audio passthrough on your TV in some apps on the new Chromecast?

It works with YouTube TV but not Netflix or HBO Max. It switches back to auto which leaves the TV to process the sound which then adds delay to the audio. I'd rather the sound system process the audio.

Shield keeps asking which app to open a video with even though I keep selecting 'always'.

This has been frustrating me for so long. Each time I open a video the 'Open with' menu appears for me to select an app to view the video. I then click on VLC and then click 'Always' as I want it to remember my choice.

However, it never remembers. As soon as I restart my Shield, I get the same 'Open with' menu appearing when selecting videos.

Does anyone else deal with this and if so, is there a fix? I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks

Android TV by TCL starts on its own, late at night

Hello,

I hope I write in the proper place.

I have purchased a new TCL Android TV (model 75C725 ) which has version 11 of the OS.

Very rarely (about once a month or once of 2 months), I noticed that the TV starts itself late at night (near 1:00 or 0:30 or even 2:00), and as YouTube is often the last app that I use before turning off the display, it also plays the video...

How could it be?

I tried to contact TCL via their website, but then they said they provide support to the US only. I tried to contact Google, and after showing them the bug-report file, they said that I should talk with TCL, as they saw this in the logs and believe it's a bug of TCL:

12-11 00:26:14.025 1000 722 2117 I PowerManagerService: Waking up from Asleep (uid=1000, reason=WAKE_REASON_APPLICATION, details=class com.tcl.settings.receiver.TimerManagerBroadcastReceiver)...

Sadly, as I said, TCL doesn't seem to provide support for this.

I also tried to contact the store (which is also the official importer of the TV) about this issue, but they gave me a very weird and unbelievable explanation: It's because Android updates itself or other apps. They told me that a workaround would be to manually update stuff myself every 2 weeks or so, and also turn off "quick-start" feature (meaning the TV will be completely turned off each time I turn off the display).

Has anyone here ever got this issue, on TCL or other Android-TV's based TV ?

Which devices support Dolby Digital plus to Dolby Digital conversion?

I just switched from a fire stick to Chromecast with Google TV, and I haven't been able to get surround sound working. I've spent a whole day playing with settings, buying and using using audio extractor boxes, posting online and doing research, etc.

My audio system only supports Dolby Digital but unlike the fire stick that I used previously, the Chromecast won't convert unsupported audio such as Dolby Digital Plus (from streaming apps) to Dolby Digital. From what I found online the only major streaming apps that support native Dolby Digital streams are Plex (if that counts), HBO max, and Apple tv Plus. All the other apps just fall back to stereo if Dolby Digital plus is not available and the device does not support down converting to regular Dolby Digital.

My question is, now that I have to return the Chromecast with Google TV due to the lack of DD+ to DD down mixing, I'm wondering what other Android TV devices support this? I think the newer Shields do but what about older ones? What about other devices?

I really don't want to have to go back to the fire stick or upgrade my audio equipment because of this. Thanks
