Is there any good youtube client for non androidTV boxes?

Im looking for a replacement for the default YouTube app on my h96 pro + tv box. It runs on android 7.1 and its amazing how well it performs, however the YouTube app keeps asking me to update but the store says i cant because its not compatible.

Is there any good app that works well with a remote on a tv screen?

90% of this subreddit's replies are: "just get an Nvidia Shield, bro!" because Google refuses to release a hero device for Android TV loyalists during their events since 2014

On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain.

PS4 remote play on Android TV?

Love my Philips android tv, so many wonderful apps in the appstore and I probably haven't even touched the surface of what is possible.

The news last week was that every Android device now supports PS4 remote play. But it seems like Android TV does not support PS4 remote play yet?

Anyone got it working in one way or another?

x900F should I get a Shield TV?

I have an x900F but the UI is kinda slow. Are there any good reasons for upgrading my Android OS to an Nvidia Shield TV or should I just keep the native Oreo 8.0 built into the TV?

I have a Shield K1 tablet that I don't use; can I use the shield TV remote somehow?

I stopped using it as a tablet a long time ago. Thinking of getting the mini HDMI cable and using my shield k1 instead of our frustrating Roku 4 experience. If so, can I buy and add the shield remote?

Or would I be better off just getting a shield TV? I am hesitant because of how old the shield TV is and not sure if anything newer is on the near horizon from Nvidia (or someone else).

Jetstream 4K audio issue

Wanted to pick some brains here. I have an older Onkyo 7.1 Receiver HT-R680. Both Optical inputs on it died a few years ago, but the digital coaxial inputs still work as well as HDMI inputs and outputs. I purchased a Ematic Jetstream 4k recently and been racking my brain to get all my apps working with Surround Sound. Due to the receiver being from the 2010 era, I don't think it has a high enough DLNA certification to plug the Jetstream 4k in via HDMI for Netflix. I start watching something and get an immediate Netflix error. Yet Hulu and Plex work just fine. Plugging it into my TV HDMI ports and Netflix works. Downside is my TV is it's an older Samsung smart TV from 2013 and most of the apps have been discontinued, yet Netflix is still there just all around it's a slow experience. Both TV and receiver support ARC, but TV won't pass-through DTS and DD sound from an HDMI source. So I purchased a digital optical to digital coaxial converter box (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N32C5GT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I have the Jetstream plugged to the TV via HDMI and have the optical audio from Jetstream going to the converter box to coaxial input on the receiver. Plex works great DTS and DD pass-through no problems. When it comes to Netflix I don't get the DD5.1 sounds to come through. I have to pick stereo sound on every show or movie. It's especially annoying when a TV show switches to the next episode it defaults to 5.1. I do have an optical output on the TV and tested the converter box with it and it works fine with Netflix and the receiver picks up the DD5.1 signal. I have everything set right. Jetstream sound output is on SPIDIF. My theory is the converter box only supports 192 KHZ sampling rate. Not sure what the DD5.1 sampling rate from Netflix is but I'm wondering if its just to high. Since the Tv is older, the Neflix app may be pulling DD5.1 at a much lower sampling rate. I know it's probably not cost effective to get the receiver fixed probably better off buying a new one at that point. If anyone has advice or feedback let me know.

mi box s h264 10bit high 10 playback

Just received the Mi Box S, was impressed so far as to how much better it was than our "Android-based" tv box, but it couldn't play a majority of my media library, mostly H264 High-10 content. Both VLC and MX Player couldn't play that without stuttering. On MX Player, only SW decoder was supported, and checking the decoder settings, it says that hardware decoding is not available for 10bit H264.

Does that mean I'm out of luck?

Firestick or Mi Box S for streaming in 1080p?

I have one of those Android "TV Boxes" from Ali, and can't stand Prime and Netflix in such a shitty resolution anymore (especially because I pay for most expensive Netflix package). My TV is 1080p, not 4k, so don't know which one from these two is better for the long haul?

I live in Serbia, we have official Xiaomi store, but would probably buy either one of those from local online re-sellers, and price for both is similar. Apps I need are Netflix, Amazon Prime, Twitch, Chrome, and HBO Go, local version of HBO streaming app. Nvidia Shield is not an option, it's too expensive.

Thinking of switching

So I am currently deep into the amazon eco system but thinking of switching it to android tv. My question is, is the mi box really good or should I only consider the shield. Biggest concern is price I need 6 boxes for all my tvs. Also would need to change 6 echos to google home minis. So this won’t be cheap but looking for the best experience possible.

FireStick apk

I live in Canada and have a FireStick with an amazon.ca account. There are many apps that I can not locate on the amazon app store since the device is geolocked. Using a VPN To connect to the US is no help either. Does anyone have a filelinked code that contains FireStick apks for apps like Pluto TV that I can find to download? I have tried to sideload from Google playstore but found some apks not optimized to FireStick and had to delete.

Mibox - can my SSD have a writeable network folder?

Hi everyone,

I have a Mibox with a SSD attached to it via USB that has all my movies and music.

Is it possible to make these folders visible on my network and writeable so that I can copy new movies and music to them from my PC?

If so, can someone share with me a guide?

Thanks!
