First time androidTV buyer

I am looking for recommendation as I plan to replace my PS3 (Movian player) with newer AndroidTV boxes. I am looking for a quality box that has great .ASS/.SSA subtitle capability (priority) and a browser app that plays website videos seamlessly (no annoying ads/popups) - another priority. Latest codecs, open source customization and great external USB hard drive to play videos as well. Replaceable HDD would be a plus too but not a priority.

I have looked at NinkBox N1, Beelink GT-King Amlogic S922X, SkyStream, KDLinks A400 (older model) and Newpal. Should I chose the newer ones made in 2019? Which ones are the best for subtitle and browser internet videos (sites that do not have apps)?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Which mibox is more reliable?

Going to set my parents up with a streaming box.

They will strictly be using Netflix, Hulu and Prime (upon arrival). They do stream 4k fwiw and will use BT headphones.

Which of the two would be better suited for non techy folks, with the most reliable remote/headset BT connection and overall least amount of fuss?

Anyone know when to expect prime? Will sideload apk but prefer the official version.

Thank you

JBL link bar (Android TV?), Audio Lag

I'm wondering if anyone else is having audio lag on multiple apps on their JBL Link bar, and if there is any way to fix it?

This is my first Android TV. I assume it's the JBL link bar but not sure. 3/3 apps I've used all experience the lag, HDHomerun, NBC and Amazon prime video. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the JBL link bar, it's got so many other bugs...

Wi-Fi problems with miBox S

So I got my mom a MiBox S for her birthday, and spent a whole day setting up and trying to make casting from her phone and/or tablet possible. I had to overcome a lot of hurdles. Since the MiBox didn't pick the WiFi well (the router is in my room, while the MiBox and the TV are in the living room), I had to turn my phone's data plan into a hotspot so I could set the whole thing up.

Obviously this is not a sustainable solution. The MiBox itself works - but it's usable only when the signal is strong enough and for most of the time it isn't.

I thought of the following solutions - please tell me which is more promising:

  1. Upgrading router - my current router is a basic 20$ router from TP-Link. A possible solution here would be to upgrade to a better one, with bigger antennas.

  2. Buying a WiFi range extender - about the same price of a new router, but not a guarantee it would work.

  3. Buying new antennas for current WiFi?

Now you can play this Westwood Studios classic on Android TV devices. ScummVM still needs to be sideloaded (https://www.scummvm.org/downloads/). Game can be played with TV remote or mouse.

Help, Wi-Fi drops at startup

Since I upgraded to Android 8.0 my Wi-Fi is often not connected when I startup my Sony TV. I'm fairy new to Android tv, so any suggestions?

I'm within range & have a good router.

SOLVED: under Settings / Network / Home Network / IP Controls: change to "simple IP control". It warns "this may consume more energy during standby" but it solved the problem.

PVR Live app issue

Hey guys, I have just installed the PVR Live app on my Mi box, but whenever I try to load a playlist it shows "Unknown error, please retry in a moment".

Is someone experiencing the same?

Solved: the issue was due to the use of a remote app. To solve, press the ok button on the mi box remote controller instead of on the remote app.

Jetstream 4k power adapter

I need a new power adapter for my jetstream 4k. From everything I've read, it's the same as the mibox S, which is the same as the PSP. Can anyone confirm this, or do they know of a viable alternative? Any help would be much appreciated.

New MX10 won't get past boot screen, red light on.

Hey everybody, I'm having an issue with my brand new MX10 I got some days ago. It worked like a charm until today. Now when I turn it on, the blue led comes on and the MX10 logo will appear on the screen as you'd expect, but after 30 seconds or so, the led turns red and the MX10 logo is now stuck on the screen forever. Tried many times sticking a toothpick in the AV jack to reset and then plug in the device and release when logo comes off, but it does nothing. It won’t get past the MX10 logo.

Tried doing research online but no answer that would come close.

Any help would come in handy.

Are there any custom Android ROMs for TVs like Lineage OS but for a SONY TV for example?

I own a Philips Android TV but I am not quite happy with the Android version on it. I know that many TVs do not have very good operating systems and users complain about the smart TV features of all the major manufacturers.

However I am curious to know if there is any custom ROM that I could try for my Android TV.

Thanks

Xiaomi Mibox S won't turn on using the remote control

I have this issue when sometimes the Mibox S won't turn on at all using the remote control. I have tried spamming the buttons, and changing the batteries, but that doesn't work.

I need to unplug/plug the power for it to turn on. Is there any fix for this? Is it a common problem? Should I do a factory reset? The box is running the latest OS available, and everything is up to date.

Android TV Pie turning Ethernet off during VPN connecting

Might be this a Android TV 9 problem or a VPN apps have bugs?

I tried Windscribe, Nord VPN, Express VPN and Urban VPN.

First three are officialy optimized for Android TV by developers, all three when connecting just kill Ethernet connection. Temp fix I found is to unplug/plug LAN cable while connecting, somehow those apps manage to connect. Windscribe developers responded that they can't find any bugs.

Urban VPN just can't connect at all through LAN.

Few people using Android 8 told me how VPN is working on LAN while many people on Android 9 can't.

Any suggestions?
