Thinking of switching

by eclpsdrgn

So I am currently deep into the amazon eco system but thinking of switching it to android tv. My question is, is the mi box really good or should I only consider the shield. Biggest concern is price I need 6 boxes for all my tvs. Also would need to change 6 echos to google home minis. So this won’t be cheap but looking for the best experience possible.

The Mi Boxes will be slower and less capable vs the cheaper Amazon FireTV Stick 4K. All Mi Boxes are 2016 series hardware under the hood. Nothing to get excited about really.

The Android TV Apps eco system is not as comprehensive vs far more popular Amazon FireOS Eco system.

The Shield has about the worst, stupid touch sensitive wireless remote in the marketplace. The Fire TV 4K stick and 2019 Cube the best.

Would you like me to go into holes in HDR and Dolby Audio audio support the Shield has ?

It really is due for a hardware refresh, which may happen before the end if the year. Maybe.

The one thing Android TV has going for it is the much better user interface vs the pushy in your face Amazon FireOS one.

Why? More and more devices have listening built in. There are TVs with this feature, clocks, and more. 24 inch kitchen TV coming with always listening ability.

Wait until an android TV box has listening (google mini) built in. This was announced for the nVidia shield but never happened. :(
