x900F should I get a Shield TV?

by Explorer200

I have an x900F but the UI is kinda slow. Are there any good reasons for upgrading my Android OS to an Nvidia Shield TV or should I just keep the native Oreo 8.0 built into the TV?

Save your money and just keep the native built in app.

I have the TV and Shield together, and stayed with the native app as much as I could because I hated switching.

As others have said, it’s not worth it. Save your money for when your TV will became obsolete since it’s unlikely Sony will keep updating it.

Or buy an ATV 4K for a tvOS that actually works...

Yes the GUI is kinda slow on those Sony's that have weak old GPU's - but virtually everything else (except games) will be superior vs the Shield such as:

  • DolbyVision & HLG HDR support
  • Motion control for smooth video playback, when using built in TV Apps
  • 4K HDR YouTube and 4K HDR Play movies
  • An actual Dolby audio licence

If you wanted a faster GUI get something with modern HDR / DolbyVision tech in it like the Apple TV 4K or Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K / 2019 FireTV Cube.

I believe the Shield is due for a Hardware refresh real soon that might bring it up to modern HDR standards that the competition now has.

I wouldn't bother, Sold my shield after getting the 900f as it became obsolete.

Be happy with your amazing TV and when TV OS will be obsolete after 5 years get what it is available at market.

I'd wait for the new version of the shield.

I have Shield TVs on both my x900F's. Running Kodi on the built in OS bogged things down too much; library scanning seemed to take forever.

u/Explorer200 Hey have you sped up your X900F / XF90 by removing the bloated software? It will become a LOT faster.
