Is FireTV an alternative to AndroidTV?

Hi,

I own an Android box and quite happy with it. I would like to ask this for my personal knowledge. As I understood, the Chromecast device does not have a UI, it is push and stream device.

Is FireTV similar to Android box with a UI, apps and other features or more like Chromecast without a UI? Are Android apps supported on FireTV?

sorry to post it here but I would like to hear the perspective of Android TV owners. Thanks

Is it possible to port MiTV ROM to LeTV?

Just asking because I have been frustrated with this TV.

It was promised to give unlimited supply of movies and series, HDR support and stuff, Updates will give Mic Support and regular updates and all. I paid a bunch to get this. However after a few months the company shut down and there are no updates at all.

Just some roms available here and there which crash. And once you go on the Rom you can't go back to latest official build. All the apps like Netflix and Youtube and Amazon Prime work on some old version which repeatedly asks for updates.

Even if I wanted to sell this thing it is impossible as no one will buy it.

I wanted to ask if there is anyone who can port the MiTV ROM for LeSuper TV x53?

Considering an Android TV box, will it do what I need?

Hi all

Looking to get an Android TV box. The requirements I have are as follows

Netflix, Amazon prime, BBC iPlayer and web based video playback.

Would any android box do this?

A bonus would be if I could control the box using my (android) phone instead of yet another remote control!

Tips and recommended products appreciated

Edit - budget is about £50-60!

Edit 2- iPlayer not essential, must be able to play browser videos and be controlled by my phone..

Connecting an external speaker to a Smart TV

I maybe in the wrong sub but r/Philips is like a ghost town so I'm trying it here and hoping to get help.

I have the ff. devices: Philips 40PFT5883 Smart TV Pioneer HTC-121DVD Home Theatre

I wanted to connect the 2 so that I can output the sound on Philips to the Pioneer. The Philips supports HDMI ARC but Pioneer only has HDMI with no ARC labeling so I guess it doesn't support it.

I'm planning to use a 3.5mm jack to RCA male cable to connect the 2, will that work? I'll be buying the cable so I can't test it out. Any other better way to connect the 2? Basically, making the Pioneer a speaker system for the Philips.

TIA!

Mi TV Box as DLNA media server

I recently come across mi tv box s and I am wondering couple of things.

Current Media server is Windows based PC with uTorrent, Sonarr, Radar and Emby server. I am wondering if MI TV Box can fully replace PC configuration only for Media server, streaming to webOS tv.

I think it should work with external usb3.x hdd; sonar and radar and uTorrent, maybe a remote access too?

Want to know mi tv 4s vs sony bravia basic vs samsung ru7100

Hi. My old sony bravia basic 39 inch (2016 model, full hd) is broken. Now i m in market to buy a new tv. My choices are:

  1. Mi tv 4s 43 inchs. ( can anyone say wxact model nber if global version?)

  2. Samsung ru7100 43 inch. ( VA pannel vs xiaomi's ips pannel. I checked in store, the samsung's viewing angel is not good.)

I don't have the option to check mi tv in store as i should buy it online only. Some reviewers say the sound quality is worse vs sony or smsung. How much is it right?

Mi tv is cheaper than samsung one. And i should buy them all without warranty.

Thanks.

Considering switching from a MAC MINI to AndroidTV. Help?

For the last 10 years I've using a MAC MINI as my entertainment system and I am considering replacing it with AndroidTV or a generic Android box. I primarily use my MINI to download, share, and stream content (mostly torrent) from an external NAS through KODI (securely with NordVPN). I'm also starting to dabble with IPTV providers.

I understand an Android box will allow me to setup IPTV or use streaming apps like Netflix or Youtube etc - but how much flexibility do they provide? For example, can I easily map an external NAS to an Android box and access my stored content? Can I torrent (dl and seed) from an Android box? Can I use VPN?

How much power do I really need? NVIDIA seems to be the recommended solution but I need something a little cheaper. I was considering a Mi Box S but am concerned about the 2 GB RAM - for this reason I was also considering the Beelink GT King for the extra RAM but it's not official AndroidTV.

I'd appreciate any guidance to give me the confidence to move forward!

mi box s keep switching resolution from 4k to 1080p

Damn the pie update, it is the third bug I've found so far. I have a 4k TV and the recommendation resolution it said was 1080p, so I manually changed it to 4k only to found out that mi box would randomly switch it back for unknown reason. This happens too often and annoys me like hell. Fix your bug before you release . , Xiaomi.

Can Smart YouTube completely replace stock YouTube app?

Smart YouTube is great. I have noticed, however, that it can't completely replace the stock YouTube app within voice searches.

When I do a voice search—say, 2019 nfl playoffs highlights—Google Assistant shows me a list of YouTube videos. If the stock YouTube app has not been disabled, choosing a video will open it in that instead of Smart YouTube. If the stock app has been disabled, choosing a video does nothing.

Smart YouTube can work from voice search. the 8-bit guy usually behaves the same as above, but sometimes (I haven't been able to figure out the pattern) the title of the results specifies that the video will open in Smart YouTube, and it does. the 8-bit guy on youtube causes Google Assistant to speak "Alright, playing The 8-bit Guy on YouTube"; despite that last word, Smart YouTube properly starts and plays the most recent video in The 8-bit Guy's channel.

Suggestions? (And no, 2019 nfl playoffs highlights on smart youtube doesn't work. Google Assistant uses the entire phrase as a YouTube search query.)

USB Mouse Problem With Mi Box S 4K

Recently bought the Android Box, but it doesn't seem to be working properly with an usb mouse. While built-in settings section and YouTube work properly, other apps like Netflix -even Google Play- isn't working very well with the mouse. Can't search anything in Google Play because nothing happens when I click the search button. Netflix is the worst, can't do anything with the mouse.

I think the reason is related to these apps are designed only for TV and the TV remote, but wondered if others have experienced the same issues. Is there any workaround for this, or should I just install the standard versions of these apps?

Replacing my old TV - should I get a stream box for my use case?

I currently have a Chromecast Ultra and use it to stream Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YouTube, Twitch, Videostream (for local files) and mirror tabs for anything else from my computer (though there's a quality drop for that), which is also in my bedroom.

Most of the content I watch is in 1080p and I've never been bothered by that (so yes, the Ultra is overkill, which is why I want to make sure if a stream box fits my needs).

Since my new TV is a 2019 model, the built-in apps shouldn't be too sluggish just yet. Further, the only Chromecast problem I have is mirroring tabs, and I have a PS4 (not Pro) that I could hypothetically use for some streaming. I could also connect my tablet to my TV to avoid having to screen mirror as well.

I've looked at spec sheets and features lists for a couple of stream boxes and nothing's really caught my attention, but maybe that's because I've never used one. Maybe a stream box would be better in a few years when my TV stops getting updates? Thanks in advance.

Disney & Netflix Dolby 5.1 not working mi box s

Hey everyone!

Been having problems with my mi box S since the android 9.0 update.

First problem, all videos would play for about 1.5 minutes the stop. Tried everything, finally had to reset it, fixed that problem (still a minor 30 reset everytime a Bluetooth devices disconnects , but only on Disney +)

But the new main problem is Dolby 5.1 from Netflix or Disney. Both, no matter what I do only does stereo. Plex does Dolby 5.1 fine, so it's not my setting. I think it's the Netflix and Disney apps not playing well with the mi box s and the new 9.0 update.

Can anyone else with a mi box S , and android 9.0, confirm if Netflix or Disney is doing Dolby 5.1?

My setup mi box S --> Vizio TV --> (optical input) Vizio sound bar

Edit:. Netflix Solution, set it to spdif or auto and restart the box and hopefully it will fix it if you have the same problem. Thanks to R6ckstar for the tip. Disney+ still only does stereo with this trick.

Mi Box S Casting Problem on New Update

Hi,

After updating software I have a problem casting from my laptop or phone. Casting from Youtube, Facebook and Netflix work fine but as I try to play something from other websites I ran into this screen. I choose to cast to the TV from my device it starts loading and says it's casting but all I can see on TV is this screen. I have tried clearing cache and data of the Chromecast app and it's still not working, sometimes it helps to restart Mi Box, but not always.

Does anyone have the same problem or knows the solution?
