Can Smart YouTube completely replace stock YouTube app?

Smart YouTube is great. I have noticed, however, that it can't completely replace the stock YouTube app within voice searches.

When I do a voice search—say, 2019 nfl playoffs highlights —Google Assistant shows me a list of YouTube videos. If the stock YouTube app has not been disabled, choosing a video will open it in that instead of Smart YouTube. If the stock app has been disabled, choosing a video does nothing.

Smart YouTube can work from voice search. the 8-bit guy usually behaves the same as above, but sometimes (I haven't been able to figure out the pattern) the title of the results specifies that the video will open in Smart YouTube, and it does. the 8-bit guy on youtube causes Google Assistant to speak "Alright, playing The 8-bit Guy on YouTube"; despite that last word, Smart YouTube properly starts and plays the most recent video in The 8-bit Guy's channel.

Suggestions? (And no, 2019 nfl playoffs highlights on smart youtube doesn't work. Google Assistant uses the entire phrase as a YouTube search query.)

Default apps -> opening links setting able to remove what links go to YouTube app and make them go to smart YouTube app?

When I used this I root + Vanced to force control where I wanted it, but that was very annoying.

That’s not the only issue I encountered with Smart YouTube. I also noticed that it doesn’t save my activity history. Suppose I watch 10 videos on Smart YT, and like them all, and then go on YT on my phone or PC. If I’m lucky only one video I watched on Smart YT will show up in my watch history. None of the videos I liked will show up in my liked videos playlist

I don't use voice search so I've never actually noticed that, but I do notice that the short video preview when you select a video doesn't work. However from within the app if you go to search and then click on the microphone it will work.

To me the few extra clicks is worth not watching (and skipping when possible) commercials.

yeah it is shitty that it cant completely replace the youtube app but I did notice with some testing of the voice commands you can make Smart youtube TV open but its for some specific commands.

for example I said "play some movie trailers of 2020 youtube" then it asked me what app to open it on and I picked Smart Youtube TV...worked of course.

now when I say that command it open Smart Youtube TV and plays the trailers but Im still trying to find out how to do it for other videos
