Connecting an external speaker to a Smart TV

by Jac1an

I maybe in the wrong sub but r/Philips is like a ghost town so I'm trying it here and hoping to get help.

I have the ff. devices: Philips 40PFT5883 Smart TV Pioneer HTC-121DVD Home Theatre

I wanted to connect the 2 so that I can output the sound on Philips to the Pioneer. The Philips supports HDMI ARC but Pioneer only has HDMI with no ARC labeling so I guess it doesn't support it.

I'm planning to use a 3.5mm jack to RCA male cable to connect the 2, will that work? I'll be buying the cable so I can't test it out. Any other better way to connect the 2? Basically, making the Pioneer a speaker system for the Philips.

TIA!

Yeah, it'll work, with some caveats; it doesn't look like the TV supports fixed level audio out so you'll probably have to turn the volume on the TV way up when the 3.5mm is plugged in, and you of course won't get surround sound. Unfortunately it looks like the Pioneer only has the 2-ch analog input so it looks like your only option.

Does the Pioneer have optical?

You're on a wrong track

Hdmi arc on TV connects to soundbar.
