When the update to 9(beta?) came out I saw posts saying it breaks chromecast and hdhomerun. I saw some suggested fixes for chromecast but not hdhomerun. Anyone got it working or just hold off on the update? Thanks!

It worked for me fine except for 720p stations. They would pixelate like crazy when it didn't before the update on 8.1. So basically Fox and ABC weren't watchable. This problem appeared in the Live Channels app, the Plex app and tuning the station directly in VLC.
Luckily I was in my return period and was able to exchange it for another one that hadn't been upgraded yet, so I'm back up and running again. (My on-screen keyboard stopped working too with Android 9, so technically it was defective)
Except for the Prime app, there's absolutely nothing worth the update. I mean, apart from the store and the new structure for the menu, there's nothing different. It only brings bugs, a lot of little bugs. The Oreo was absolutely perfect and almost bug free... I wish I had stayed with Oreo.
Hold off. Even it you manage to not have issue with what you are asking about, there are plenty of other things that can get broken. My mi box got bricked for example. I would definitely wait.
Thanks guys..I will hold off!! No reason to mess up something that is working well
i am on beta 3. It is working fine with HDHomerun (HDHR4-2US), MI Box S is connected via 5GHz WiFi connection.
As Sivark says, the 720P channels pixelate so badly, unwatchable. I purchased mine when they were on sale for $30 on black Friday. I immediately installed the "Pie" beta, big mistake.
Tossed into a drawer with other "oops" boxes. May dig it out when they bring out some fixes.
What is HDHomerun?
It works fine for me for HDHomeRun, but there also doesn't seem to be any pressing reason to update at this time. I'd avoid updating for the time being.
