I assume other devices besides the Nvidia shield have a find my remote feature built in, but it doesn't do one much good if one can only access it via the menu system. Google really needs a "find my remote" much like "find my phone" that cam trigger the find my remote function in these devices.
It can be done if one runs their own home assistant installation, but this should be built in.

I just downloaded the Android TV Remote Service 5.0 on my Android TV (Sony BRAVIA X850C, Android 8.0).
Previously, I'd occasionally use Sony's remote app (TV & Video Sideview) on my phone, and that still works, but in reading the Android TV Remote Service description, I read that I could control my TV through the Google Home App and Android Quick Access menu on my phone.
The option to integrate the remote with Google Home / Quick Access sounded pretty appealing to me, since I use the quick access menu a lot to manage house lights. However, when I opened the Google Home app or added the TV to the quick access menu and tap on it, all I see is volume controls. I don't see a full "remote" in there at all, like per the screenshots shown on Android TV Remote Service Google Play page.
Am I missing something here? Do I need any other app on my phone to utilize the Android TV Remote Service on my phone through Google Home or the Quick Access / Home Control menu?
Thank you!
..and Google's decision to release Android TV Remote Service v5.0 which caused the old Android TV remote app to stop working was not thoughtful.
In my previous post I've mentioned that the new remote app was not region locked but i was wrong.
As we know that Google TV app is only available in very limited countries but what i didn't expect is that even Google Play Movies & TV app is only available in selected countries(~117 countries).
Due to that, Android/Google TV users that are not in supported country won't able to use the new remote app. Even though they can sideload/enable the app on their mobile but at some point it will be disabled automatically especially after reboot unlike the old remote app that can be used without any region restrictions.
Another group that are also affected is iPhone/iPad users. According to Google, the new remote feature will be available via Google Home app but unfortunately till today it is still not available.
###Workaround
So for those who are affected by Android TV Remote Service v5.0 update or prefer the old remote app, you can downgrade the app to v4.7 on your Android/Google TV device:
Now you can continue to use the old Android TV Remote app.
Do note, this workaround will only work if the pre-installed version of Android TV Remote Service is lower than v5.0 or until Google 'allows' it.
For those who has your phone rooted and prefer the new remote app, can try the following workaround shared by XDA's Editor-in-Chief, Mishaal Rahman on Twitter:
