Hi all. I have a TCL ATV that runs a bit slow and laggy, wondering if theres anyway i can improve this whether its by upgrading ram, different launcher or custom rom. upgrading storage or rooting. Any tips or suggestions welcome. Im not with the tv right now but if model needs to be specified i can get back to whoever later. Thanks in advance

I have a Hisense H8F65 - Android TV will boot up, but then immediately starts throwing error dialogs saying all sorts of processes are crashing (Storage, acore, Android Home, etc). It gives me the “Storage is low” dialog as well.

ATV won’t execute the Clear Cache command. It just clicks and does nothing. It will also not uninstall apps. The UI pops up to confirm uninstall, but then the apps just reappear. I have tried booting into Safe Mode, but it won’t. It seems like something is eating up storage which prevents ATV from writing to memory. After rebooting, all changes that were made while the TV was on are reverted, not to defaults, but to the state they were in prior to this storage issue.

Same thing happens when I do a factory reset. The UI displays confirming reset, but then the reboot step of the reset causes the TV to revert back to that last state.

I’ve done an “unprotected reset” from the “secret factory service menu” - again, just reverted to the previous state.

I’ve tried the manufacturer’s forced firmware update via USB stick procedure. It will not enter the update state from boot (holding power button with USB in). It recognizes an update from within the ATV Settings, however, part of the update process is a reboot which then just restores the previous state.

I’ve tried adding a USB Drive to add additional storage. It appears to work, allows me to move apps, but then ATV will crash and reboot - previous state. Now the USB drive only has 17MB available, but when examined on a computer, has no additional files…

I’ve tried enabling debugging over USB and connected via ADB, however, the device is never recognized. ADB over Wi-Fi is actively refused.

Basically it seems like changes are being “journaled”, but the storage transactions are unable to be committed. Therefore, storage is essentially volatile.

I literally have run out of ideas on how to debug. Is there some way to wipe the drive so I can at least try a fresh reinstall?

Does anyone know how to set the remote to pairing mode? I was trying to pair the remote to my other TV and was having trouble.

I've had the above TV just over 12 months and it's been working without any issue then all of a sudden this evening the picture has gone

I can still get sound and the Ambilight is still functioning as it should be

So far tried disconnecting everything and power cycling it by removing the power cable then holding the power button for 30/60 seconds but nothing makes any difference

Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed

Anyone knows if there are plans for 2018 Philips TVs such as PUS8303 (ones with 3 at the end) to have Adroid 10 update? I really regret buying Philips TV since there are no updates after 2 years...

As the title suggests my dad is looking for a new device either the new firestick 4k max or the xiaomi mi box s 4k, or if anyone has another suggestion I'm open to it, I've a nvidia shield tv Pro myself but he's not willing to spend the money on that and won't accept anything towards it from me either. I know the firestick max has the better specs etc, but I felt that amazon slowed down the firestick with a new update anytime a brand new firestick was released when I had one, that's why I'm wondering would a different box be any good. Any help or advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Tried to install Paramount+ app yesterday - stuck on "Pending..." Never resolved.

Tried to open Disney+ app today. Would not let me without updating first. Update stuck on "Pending..."

Any app I try to update (there are 21 updateable apps on my TV according to GPStore) is the same thing.

Following all the other online guides I deleted caches for Google Play Store and Google play services. I signed out and back into my google account and restarted TV. I have done all things everyone who has written on this issue has suggested. Still "Pending..."

During troubleshooting I even deleted Disney+ and when I went to reinstall it, sure enough I got stuck on "Pending..."

I currently have a cheaper Samsung TV that I will be looking to upgrade to a Sony x90J sometime in the near future. I like Samsung's Tizen OS cause it has lots of streaming apps. I use Disney+, Netflix, Crave, Prime video, discovery+ and now TSN to watch live tv. I have heard that TSN does not have an app on Android tv, if that is true, can I at least cast it from my phone? I take it that with the Sony TV's the "Chromecast" feature is now built in?

I've seen that most popular media streaming devices have 2GB RAM (such as chromecast with google tv or Amazon's fire stick)

my question is should I go with a less popular device that runs android and has 4GB RAM instead? or is 2GB actually enough?

My mom watches much, much more TV than me, and has very different tastes. I got us a Chromecast with Google TV about a year ago, and signed it into my account (because Google doesn't seem to let you switch profiles). Her dozens of watched, bookmarked, or recommended shows have taken over my account, and I wish there was a way to cleanse those and actually set up separate profiles. Since (as far as I can tell) Google hasn't actually given us multi-user support, what's the best way to handle this?

As of Nov 2021 Walmart is still selling the Onn UHD Android TV set top streaming box. This is essentially an Android Chromecast rebranded device. While it's runs super with it's quad core CPU and very fast on 5ghz WiFi, I wanted to run it on an RJ-45 Ethernet adaptor and of directly wired to my home router..

So wanted to share this for those interested.

I found a low cost adapter on Amazon for $6.99 and it was a simple plug and play. Brand is JacobsParts USB to Ethernet adaptor. You'll also need the OTG cable that's like $3 I tested my internet speed using my comcast that's a 100mbps service. And I got an astounding 120mbps download speed and very hard to believe 750mbps upload speed. Did the test several times with equal results. There are more expensive options but just FYI this cheap Ethernet adaptor works perfectly on the Onn UHD streaming box.

I clearly remember google announcing the new Google TV about a year ago, I own an android TV and am wondering whether it will go obsolete and stop receiving updates or whether it will remain as Android TV or whether it will be updated to Google TV

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but for some reason an app I'm working on won't show any notifications on Android TV, although it works perfectly fine on android phone . Both OS versions are pie.
