Using Chromecast with Google tv on an android tv, will it conflict?

I have a hisence 4k android tv and the tv itself is great. The 4k is pretty good and I have it hooked up to an av receiver for surround. But my only problem is that the android tv itself is really really slow and laggy and sometimes completely unresponsive. Now my main question is can I get one of those new Chromecast with Google tv sticks and just plug that into the HDMI port. Obviously I know that I can do that but im worried about it conflicting with the android tv. Has anyone done this before and fallen into problems?

Need a volume limiter for android TV - 'Volume Limiter' sliding bars don't work

I have a kid who will turn the volume up all the way if I leave the room for even a minute when she is around. Looking for an app that I can install that will prevent going to the maximum volume and startling myself, my pets and the neighbours 6 houses down. I've tried 'Volume Limiter' but it has slide bars in it's UI and my tv won't allow me to adjust the slide bars (it's a Kogan [Australia] cheap android tv).

I'd like the app as a back up because my first choice is going to be 'earning the trust to possess the remote' but I really want a back up to that because I don't want to be asked every 3 minutes to put on a different show.

EDIT: SOLUTION FOUND!

Step 1: download "Volume Limiter" apk file on your computer

Step 2: save to a USB drive

Step 3: plug said USB in to TV

Step 4: navigate to Media storage on TV and click in to USB

Step 5: install apk file

Step 6: remove USB drive and plug in a mouse (thank you u/wbradmoore!)

Step 7: navigate to Apps (Mine was settings > apps > system apps

Step 8: open Volume Limiter

Step 9: use mouse to change Volume limits on each of the audio types

Step 10: exit and open your favourite TV show to test the Volume limit you put in place.

Mecool KA2 box with camera and Zoom/Duo preloaded. Can't install apps, and other nagging issues

I got this TV box new in an eBay auction for only USD25, and although I had read about its limitations to install apps outside Play Store I bought it. Unfortunately those limitations are real, limiting greatly the potential this box has (16GB internal, USB full size port, Ethernet port, S905X2 processor). Is there possibly a way to activate unknown sources installations via ADB? The box does not even have a usb debugging switch in the developer options, and I have not been able to detect it either via wifi or via USB attached to a computer. The other glaring issue is the lack of Netflix-Widevine certification, so it can run pretty much anything, but the big N can't be downloaded from the play store. Should I just wait until a software update changes these limitations or I should just sell it?

Chomecast w/ Google Tv Remote Frezes only in Hulu

I have 3 Chromecast w/ GoogleTVs, all purchased since September. All 3 exhibit the same behavior, when in Hulu the remote will "freeze" and become unresponsive. The only fix seems to be to hit the Home button, which eventually responds, to exit out of Hulu. Another odd behavior if the remote commands aren't completely unresponsive, each click up or down in the guide results in 2, so it will skip 2 channels. Very frustrating. Same as above though, hit Home to exit. In either case once I exit out I can go back in and everything is fine for a while.

This ONLY happens in Hulu.

Anyone else? I've reset one completely, same issue.

Is there an alternative os to make my android tv faster?

I have a Master G 65" 4k android tv, it works great in most apps, but it lags a lot in some like amazon prime and hbo. So I wanted to see if there was an alternative light weight versión of android tv I could install that could be faster. I have achieved this on android phones in the past but I don't know much of the android tv side. I have already disabled animations and limited background apps to 1 in the developer menu, but it is still very slow. Youtube and Netflix work great. Even emulators like snes and n64 work. I also uninstalled and disabled all bloatware that came pre installed, and rid the main menu of all channel apps. Any ideas?

Specs: I couldn't find much info of the tv I only know that it has 2 gb of ram, and 16gb of storage. Android version: 9

Model: Atv r2

Name of the device: TV master G 65"-2745720489

Need help with android TV

In early 2018 I bought a smart tv (Mi LED TV 4A) for my parents. I see no third party apps installed on it. My parents told me the TV had issues a years back and guys who fixed told them the motherboard was changed since it wasn't able to boot-up. I wanted to try out some OTT apps but since it has no play store I am just not able to install any apps. I tried installing via USB, apps get installed but either crash or don't work.

The only apps that seem to work on it, gets installed automatically without any hassle is what's comes in its feed. Like amazon videos comes in its feed and if you click on it, Amazon Video gets installed automatically and works fine. But how do I install other apps I want like YouTube on it?

  • It does not have app store. I tried installing play store via USB. It installed but when opening it goes to sing-in page and gets stuck there. I am now guessing other play store services are also missing?
  • I tried using aptoide also, again it works and I am able browse apps but it doesn't allow me to install any app since I am not able to move cursor to "install". Its just not working as if either the app or tv input is not compatible.
  • I also tried installing YouTube for Andoird TV directly again with USB - It gets installed but doesn't even open up.
  • Tried YouTube vanced manager also. It gets installed, but I am not at all able to move beyond its welcome page. Again, it seems inputs are not understood or they are just not compatible.

What am I missing here?

Remotely open/start and control app's

Kinda new to Android TV. I'm looking to buy a Nokia Streaming box. Going to install a different launcher etc. Probably going to use it as a radio streaming often, but also Zoom.

Is there a way to control the unit, without turning on the TV. Can I use my Android phone as a remote control to open app's, or mirror the screen to my phone?

Or should I be looking for a different device?

Can't download images from any browser on Android Tv. Any Options?

Hello everyone! I have a very simple but specific need for a certain function within an app I use a lot. What I need is just the ability to open any installed web browser, find a certain image (which will work as a thumbnail), then long press it to save/download it to the device. I can't seem to find ANY android tv browser capable of doing such a simple task and it is driving me nuts.

The app works like a retro gaming frontend and loads lots of thumbnails automatically, but some rare ones must be downloaded manually to complete the album view. For those cases, it gives a convenient button to prompt an image search with the right parameters, that can be opened in any browser installed in the device. After the picture is downloaded, the app immediately retrieves it and loads to the album, it's very efficient.

I can do it without any problem on every android device I own, phone or tablet, EXCEPT in my Android TV, which is a bummer because it provides the best retrogaming experience because of the large screen coupled with a gamepad.

I have tried Firefox, Puffin browser, TV Bro, and most of the popular browser search results to no luck, not a single one seems to be able to just "long press" an image within a web page and just give me an option to download it, like one can do it on a phone. Does anyone knows of any Android Tv browser that can do just that? It can be the ugliest and clunkiest browser ever, I'll use it just for this function.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Looking for a new Android TV box that has good 4K HDR + Dolby Audio support

Hi.

If you were to purchase a new Android TV box that has good 4K HDR and Dolby Audio support, what would you go for?

I’ve done some investigation via Google and Amazon and there are so many boxes out there I’m a bit confused on what to go for. When I purchased my current box (T95 Max, ARM v8, Mali-T720) I didn’t have a 4K TV or an AV receiver so I just bought the first box I found on Amazon.

I plan to use it for Kodi and if possible, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Thanks.

Search, watch trailer, then go back to search?

I love the search function that compiles results from my search. Problem is, if you click on an option and watch the trailer (on YouTube), you can't go back to your search results. Hitting back from the YouTube app sends you back to Home. I would love to just search, say, comedies. Then browse through, watching trailers, until I find one. As it is, I find myself NOT watching the trailer because I don't want to restart the search function.

Anyone know how to do what I'm talking about. I can't be the only one that finds this troubling. Either I'm doing something wrong, or the dev team needs to step it up. Lol

VPN app to connect to my own VPN

Does anyone know a VPN app that would let me connect to my own (not commercial) VPN?

It would usually work just fine through the VPN built into Android, however it seems that this feature is not surfaced in the AndroidTV settings (or I'm unable to find it, in which case my apologies). Any app that would give me access to this feature would do the trick - it really doesn't have to be more than that.
