Any Mi Box S compatible bluetooth remote?

The title says it all...

My Mi Box S remote stopped working since my bay nephew came over and threw it from second floor about a month ago.

So I contacted Xiaomi customer service few days ago and they told me they don't have it in stock. :(

So I ended up buying a cheap wireless remote with a USB receiver from aliexpress and it works great for the most part... except I cannot turn it back on after I put my Mi Box to sleep. So I have to unplug/plug back in just to turn it back on whenever someone presses the power button, put mi box to sleep. It is not the worst thing in the world but I find it quite annoying...

I was told the original mi box remote doesn't work with mi box s.Unfortunately I couldn't find any replacement mi box s remote on aliexpress (though I see tons of original mi box remotes) What about amazon fire stick remotes? Do they work with mi box s? Anyone found a working bluetooth remote for mi box s?

Changing Mi Box 4/S Default Launcher

Hey all.

I just purchased a Mi Box S for a family member and am hoping to make the device as simple to use/senior proof as possible.

I wanted to follow this post to change the default launcher to something very simple to use, like ATV Launcher or TVLauncher, but when I connect the laptop and Mi Box via a USB Type-A to Type-A cable (male-to-male) I do not get any message on the PC about the Mi Box being recognized or asking for device drivers to be installed. I was sure to enable developer mode on the Mi Box.

Can anybody assist me in changing the default launcher for the Mi Box S?

Thanks!

Edit- So I think I'm connected to the Mi Box now. I think I just needed to enable "USB debugging" in the Settings menu of the Mi Box. But now when I attempt to enter a command, I'm getting the message

C:\Users\****\Desktop\mi box launcher\minimal_adb_fastboot_1.4.3_portable>adb shell
oneday:/ $ pm hide com.google.android.leanbacklauncher
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.
1|oneday:/ $ pm hide com.google.android.tvlauncher
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.

I'm also not totally sure if I should be attempting to hide leanbacklauncher (Is this outdated and no longer used?) or tvlauncher.

Any help is appreciated!

Best budget Android TV

I don't have cable and am looking at getting Android TV for iptv...or should I get Amazon Fire. I don't have prime. I noticed my local Walmart has the Jetstream Android TV for $70.00. is that the best one for it's price point? Is there better for that price point? Also is there like rooting for them or anything spectacular about them? I have a Roku right now for 2 TV's. I can't get Mobdro for it which is one app I've found that sounds promising. Tips, advice? Etc.

Issue: Hisense H8F turning off at random times.

Brand new 55" from black friday. Every now and then the tv will pop up an alert that it will turn off in 30 seconds. I've gone through every setting and double checked that all timers are turned off. Is this an unchangeable thing built into the software or am I missing something?

What's the best modded YouTube App for Android TV & how do I DL it? I just want to blocks ads.

Planning to buy an NVIDIA Shield TV Pro. I intend to use YouTube on it but I want to block ads. I use to not mind them, but after they started appearing in the middle of videos and more frequently, they became intolerable. How do I download a modded YouTube app on Android TV and which is the best one? Does it require that I delete the original YouTube app? Please let me know. Thx.

What is the Android TV equivalent to iOS/tvOS' Infuse App?

I'm an Apple user who is planning to buy an Android TV Box, specifically the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro, since Apple TV's lack of USB ports fails to meet my needs.

For years I have been using the iOS media player app Infuse to play my media files on iPhone & iPad. What I love about it not just that it can pretty much read any audio & video codec, but that it has magnificent UI & UX. It automatically downloads metadata and artwork for your movies and TV shows in seconds, and everything will be smartly organized into categories.

Is there a similar app for Android? I know I can use VLC to play any video file, but is there a similar app to Infuse that can similarly organize my files and present them elegantly for navigation? I suspect that Apple device users who use Android TV boxes are probably best to answer this question but I could be wrong. I'd really appreciate your recommendations. Thank you.

DVR recording with Live Channels app

I have a Channel Master Stream + with the Live Channels app that gives me a 2 week guide and DVR capability. I just purchased an Android TV (Philips 75PFL5704/F7) and when using the Live Channels app (v1.22) I only see PSIP data and can only pause live TV, not set future recordings.

Is this a hardware limitation or am I doing something wrong?

Opinion wanted on Android TV box purchase

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this. I'm happy to move it to Bravia or ShieldAndroidTV if that makes more sense.

Current setup:

Sony XBR-75X940D TV

Onkyo TX-NR636 Reciever

I have the TV connected to ethernet and the just use the HDMI return for audio from the TV for everything attached to it to drive my 5.1 surround. It's not the fanciest of setups but it works really well for house, the TV still looks great, and the Onkyo does fine for surround. This is all controlled by a Harmony Hub setup.

What I'm trying to figure out is if it's worth it to upgrade to an Android TV box, likely the new Shield TV Pro. I have an XBOX One X and PS4 Pro connected directly to the TV but neither are ideal for streaming for what my household uses (Kodi, Netflix, Prime Video, Youtube TV, and now Disney + of course). The rest of the TV's in the house are running newer versions of Android TV which my family has gotten used to using and likes. The issue with this setup is that the old version of Android TV on the Sony is pretty slow and has issues that require rebooting the TV 1 or 2 times a week like losing internet, Kodi freezing, etc. BUT everything looks and sounds great when it's working. I have a media server on the home network with a bunch of old DVD rips as well as several newer 4k HDR files. The one issue I had was with larger 2160p HDR files I would get a lot of stuttering in Kodi which I "fixed" by attaching a USB hard drive directly to the TV with those files. Kind of a pain but like I said it works.

I assume the Shield TV Pro would be an upgrade in Android TV performance and I hope stability but I've read through these forums and the Kodi forums about some of the downsides around some audio and video formats. So my questions are:

- Do y'all think it's worth the upgrade?

- Would the '19 Nvidia upscaling be better than the Sony TV upscaling?

- Is there another solution that would work better?

Eventually I'll get a receiver that can handle HDR for all my various sources but I'd like to hold off on that for a bit longer if possible. Given that I assume I'd have to connect the Shield TV directly to the TV like my Xbox and PS4 and use the return channel for audio.

TLDR - Android TV in my "old" Sony TV is starting to suck, should I get a Shield TV Pro?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Sharp AndroidTV backlight turns on when TV is 'off'

So I'm not sure how much of this is an AndroidTV issue, but it seems to me it might be.

This TV, when in sleep mode / screen off (what used to be known as 'turned off', or whatever happens when I hit the 'off' button on the remote) repeatedly turns its backlight on, then off, then on again for the duration the device is plugged in. No image comes up, and it's only noticeable in a dark room, but I do not like the power consumption implications this presents as well as any possible wear-and-tear doing this 5-8 times a minute would entail.

I have disabled 'wake on LAN/WAN' options as well as every other option I can think of, except screen saver which cannot be disabled. Do I just have a defective unit or is there anything else that can be done here?

ANDROID TV 10 Q: THE SIX CHANGES YOU NEED TO KNOW

Google released Android 10 on Android TV recently. Compare with the previous Android TV OS, what’s the difference between them? Let’s follow my steps to discover them.

https://preview.redd.it/wkndindbly341.jpg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3582c9fd450270b1c2075dbec595b0725228a06

Android TV 10: Top Six Changes

Android TV 10 Q will bring several improvements and six aspects of changes including Security, Media&Graphics, Dynamic Partitions, Energy Consumption, Privacy, and Performance&Update-ability. In this article, we would like to choose some of them to introduce.

https://preview.redd.it/nxzumiktky341.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=011f6d7c9592803ef812a288bba648c94f5e134d

Memory Management

Android TV Q supports dynamic partitions, a userspace partitioning system that can create, resize, and destroy partitions during an over-the-air (OTA) update. In simple terms, we can call it“Memory Management”. Memory Management is the function responsible for allocating and managing a device’s main memory, keeping track of the status of each memory location, either allocated or free to ensure effective and efficient use of Primary Memory. As thus, consumers can record more movies, sporting events, or their favorite programs than before.

Data Security and Privacy

Android TV 10.0 offers storage encryption using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and requires devices to use Adiantum software ciphers for securing users’data and privacy. Adiantum is an innovation in cryptography designed to make storage encryption more efficient for devices and ensure that all devices can be encrypted.

Power Saving

Android OS comes with the ability to multitask, which means that several apps and services are kept running in the background even when they are not actively being used. To improve the battery life of devices, Google added a power-saving feature called "Doze" since Android 6.0, allowing users’devices to go into incredibly low power usage modes in standby. With Android Q, this Doze feature is getting a serious upgrade that makes it more practical and energy-efficient than ever before.

Video Transmission

Android Q will have native support for data-saving AV1 video codec. AV1 is a new video codec designed to help companies or individuals to transmit high-quality video over the internet efficiently. With AV1, operators can stream high-quality video content to Android devices using less bandwidth, which also means that operators can deliver higher-quality viewing experience to end-users, even when bandwidth is constrained.

Android TV is a Good Option for Operators and Consumers

Android TV is the fastest-growing platform in the digital TV market, used by tens of millions of consumers and hundreds of operators. According to the expectational data, global Pay-TV subscribers will surpass 1.1 billion by 2024. Why are more and more people getting involved in this market or using this platform?
There is no doubt that fast time-to-market and cost-saving are critical for Pay-TV service providers. Android TV provides a branded and customized platform for operators to deliver a great user experience with the rapid innovation of features. With Android TV, operators can directly select off-the-shelf features including recommendations, PVR and voice search and add a standard broadcast solution significantly with reduced integration cost. All of them make it a very cost-effective and fast way of getting to market. Besides, operators can also add new services like home security, IoT, and VR to expand their business and increase revenue-generating opportunities.

And for end-users, they can easily access endless original content from Android Ecosystem to watch their favorite programs with Android TV devices. Moreover, Android TV Box features a Voice Remote with Google Assistant built-in to allow them to quickly find Amazon or Netflix content using just their voice. Whether end-users play casually or go all-in, Android TV offers a new way to play Android games on their phones, tablets or TVs. This is also an effective way to reduce churn and improve operators' ARPU.

ABC iView on Nvidia Shield - No ability to log in?

As best as I can tell there appears to be no way to log in to your ABC account within the ABC iView app on the nVidia Shield? Is this correct?

If so are there any plans that the ABC have communicated as to if this will be added in the future?

It seems like a massive oversight as I'm now unable to see what I've watched or resume a show midway through which is a big downside and enough to make me not want to use the app.

Or possibly it's user error and I'm missing how I log in?

EDIT- Okay I did some testing and even without logging in the app will record why view history but it is isolated to my Shield (if I then log into the website it won't show a watched status for anything viewed on the Shield). So I guess my revised question is "does anyone know if ABC plan to update the app so that viewed status is synced across all devices?"

Can I watch Pluto.tv videos with a Xiaomi Mi Box S, Shield TV pro, or some other gadget?

I'm a big fan of watching videos at the Pluto.tv website (owned by ViacomCBS). They also have an Android app, which works okay. Neither are 'cast' compatible. Can I watch Pluto.tv videos with a Xiaomi Mi Box S, Shield TV pro, or some other gadget on my big screen 1080p TV? The only way I know to do this would be to use a laptop + HDMI cable; which is not convenient.

Issue : my Mi box turns TV on automatically

Hey everyone !

I wanted to be able to turn my TV (Sony KDL49WE750) by using my Google Home. In order to do so, I turned on the CEC option on my Android TV and it works : I can turn the TV ON and OFF with my voice.

However, since I did that, the TV turns itself on about one min after I turned it off, and I can't figure out why.

When CEC is off or the Android TV is off, the TV won't turn back on. However, turning it off while having the Mi Box on will make the TV turn back on after a few mins.

Any ideas on how to fix this ?

Thanks

Xiaomi Mi Box S vs Shield 2017

I currently have a Shield (2017) that I love. I am looking to add another Android TV to my household, but it won't be used nearly as heavily. Is there a big drop-off to the Mi Box S?

Edit: The consensus seems to be that the Mi Box S is fully capable of handling most tasks besides gaming. Thanks to everyone who responded. I have ordered a Mi Box S and am eagerly waiting for it to arrive!

Android TV is garbage

I'm a big fan of the droid, google not so much, but I am of Android. But Android TV is just...well....a bit shit. I purchased a Mi Box S and found that there were bugger all options in the Android TV Play Store (not sure if that was just because I live in NZ), I sideloaded a couple of apps and they came up on a horizontal view and so were unworkable. I got Netflix and Spotify ok, but the interface is cluttered and a bit rubbish really when you compare to an Apple TV. I really wish google would invest some of it's not insignificant resources to Android TV and make it a serious competitor to Apple in this space. My wife and daughter are not so tech savvy so they find andoid tv just a waste of time, why use when you plug in a Apple TV and it just works (minus Spotify of course...).
