Hey all.
I just purchased a Mi Box S for a family member and am hoping to make the device as simple to use/senior proof as possible.
I wanted to follow this post to change the default launcher to something very simple to use, like ATV Launcher or TVLauncher, but when I connect the laptop and Mi Box via a USB Type-A to Type-A cable (male-to-male) I do not get any message on the PC about the Mi Box being recognized or asking for device drivers to be installed. I was sure to enable developer mode on the Mi Box.
Can anybody assist me in changing the default launcher for the Mi Box S?
Thanks!
Edit- So I think I'm connected to the Mi Box now. I think I just needed to enable "USB debugging" in the Settings menu of the Mi Box. But now when I attempt to enter a command, I'm getting the message
C:\Users\****\Desktop\mi box launcher\minimal_adb_fastboot_1.4.3_portable>adb shell
oneday:/ $ pm hide com.google.android.leanbacklauncher
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.
1|oneday:/ $ pm hide com.google.android.tvlauncher
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.
I'm also not totally sure if I should be attempting to hide leanbacklauncher (Is this outdated and no longer used?) or tvlauncher.
Any help is appreciated!
I'm an Apple user who is planning to buy an Android TV Box, specifically the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro, since Apple TV's lack of USB ports fails to meet my needs.
For years I have been using the iOS media player app Infuse to play my media files on iPhone & iPad. What I love about it not just that it can pretty much read any audio & video codec, but that it has magnificent UI & UX. It automatically downloads metadata and artwork for your movies and TV shows in seconds, and everything will be smartly organized into categories.
Is there a similar app for Android? I know I can use VLC to play any video file, but is there a similar app to Infuse that can similarly organize my files and present them elegantly for navigation? I suspect that Apple device users who use Android TV boxes are probably best to answer this question but I could be wrong. I'd really appreciate your recommendations. Thank you.
is there a way i can set up a MiBox or ShieldTV to auto play an mp4 movie on USB drive? the movie is 5 minutes and i need it to loop endlessly. basically i will use it as a TV menu displaying food on a 4K TV for my aunt's bakery. it works fine now BUT if power is out, im back to the "home" screen. is there a way to set either box to play the mp4 file automatically upon boot up?
yes, i got a raspberry pi working fine before but it does not support 4K mp4 playback as seen here: https://github.com/adafruit/pi_video_looper
Google released Android 10 on Android TV recently. Compare with the previous Android TV OS, what’s the difference between them? Let’s follow my steps to discover them.
Android TV 10: Top Six Changes
Android TV 10 Q will bring several improvements and six aspects of changes including Security, Media&Graphics, Dynamic Partitions, Energy Consumption, Privacy, and Performance&Update-ability. In this article, we would like to choose some of them to introduce.
Memory Management
Android TV Q supports dynamic partitions, a userspace partitioning system that can create, resize, and destroy partitions during an over-the-air (OTA) update. In simple terms, we can call it“Memory Management”. Memory Management is the function responsible for allocating and managing a device’s main memory, keeping track of the status of each memory location, either allocated or free to ensure effective and efficient use of Primary Memory. As thus, consumers can record more movies, sporting events, or their favorite programs than before.
Data Security and Privacy
Android TV 10.0 offers storage encryption using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and requires devices to use Adiantum software ciphers for securing users’data and privacy. Adiantum is an innovation in cryptography designed to make storage encryption more efficient for devices and ensure that all devices can be encrypted.
Power Saving
Android OS comes with the ability to multitask, which means that several apps and services are kept running in the background even when they are not actively being used. To improve the battery life of devices, Google added a power-saving feature called "Doze" since Android 6.0, allowing users’devices to go into incredibly low power usage modes in standby. With Android Q, this Doze feature is getting a serious upgrade that makes it more practical and energy-efficient than ever before.
Video Transmission
Android Q will have native support for data-saving AV1 video codec. AV1 is a new video codec designed to help companies or individuals to transmit high-quality video over the internet efficiently. With AV1, operators can stream high-quality video content to Android devices using less bandwidth, which also means that operators can deliver higher-quality viewing experience to end-users, even when bandwidth is constrained.
Android TV is a Good Option for Operators and Consumers
Android TV is the fastest-growing platform in the digital TV market, used by tens of millions of consumers and hundreds of operators. According to the expectational data, global Pay-TV subscribers will surpass 1.1 billion by 2024. Why are more and more people getting involved in this market or using this platform?
There is no doubt that fast time-to-market and cost-saving are critical for Pay-TV service providers. Android TV provides a branded and customized platform for operators to deliver a great user experience with the rapid innovation of features. With Android TV, operators can directly select off-the-shelf features including recommendations, PVR and voice search and add a standard broadcast solution significantly with reduced integration cost. All of them make it a very cost-effective and fast way of getting to market. Besides, operators can also add new services like home security, IoT, and VR to expand their business and increase revenue-generating opportunities.
And for end-users, they can easily access endless original content from Android Ecosystem to watch their favorite programs with Android TV devices. Moreover, Android TV Box features a Voice Remote with Google Assistant built-in to allow them to quickly find Amazon or Netflix content using just their voice. Whether end-users play casually or go all-in, Android TV offers a new way to play Android games on their phones, tablets or TVs. This is also an effective way to reduce churn and improve operators' ARPU.

Hi all, i have a Philips PUS8303, with this remote. I can't find out how I use the keyboard-side without constantly flipping it around when I need to go back, and then I have to point the IR. The left arrow(top right corner) is just backspace.. has anyone found a back-key on this side?
