Cannot find wifi

Hi,

My brother has just bought TCL S615 series android TV and for some reason it cannot detect our wifi.

All other devices we have connect fine, and we’ve connected it through Ethernet however it can’t stay that way as it’s too far to run a cord.

Can anyone help troubleshoot this? I’ve tried a few fixes but have yet to get anything that helps.

It just doesn’t seem to make sense that all our other devices find it but it the TV can’t.

Cheers

NEW Sheild TV with Google TV update LEAK.

I was looking at the Nvidia Games app in the playstore and the first picture under the app photos shows the app on a Google TV interface type homescreen.

This seems to be the next update for our sheilds. It looks slightly different from the chromecast version and it's not too far off from the UI we have now.

It also looks like it has some better integration with GeForce Now.

Take a look: https://m.imgur.com/bsmGtgR

How to check resolution on sideloaded app

So, basically the title says it all. I've sideloaded the normal Hulu app (since the Android TV one sucks) and it looks like the resolution is higher but I might be biased. How can I check the actual resolution the video is playing? Thanks

Mi Box S (MDZ-16-AB) playback frozen after extended suspend

UPDATE: I decided to do an experiment with this issue. Because the problem was happening with audio-only files also and video was briefly working on YouTube (a few frames played), I decided to see what happens when audio is routed through a different device. I used a cheapo sabrent USB device I had lying around. Since changing the audio output, the Mi Box has not had the freezing video issue. Yet.

Does anyone else with a spare USB audio device want to try this test on their Mi Box and see if they have the same results?

EDIT1: Correction, it is a Mi Box 3 not Mi Box S

This issue started after an update a few months back, I think December, and I assumed Xiaomi would notice the problem and quickly send another update to fix it, but it never happened.

If the unit goes into suspend mode, upon wakeup the unit cannot properly play video or audio. Video, like YouTube, will show a frozen image from the video but not properly playback anything. Restarting the unit fixes the problem for all apps.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

Good non "usual" apps for Android TV?

Apart from the usual ones... (streaming services, media players, weather, music streaming, file managaers, etc)... which apps you have installed you found useful?

For example, anydesk was a good app I installed that is not common in most "good android apps" lists... Most have very obvious apps as netflix, prime, youtube, etc... but the non common ones are the ones for recommending!

Which other apps you have that are very good but most people seems to ignore they exist? (or didn't realise to install it in a tv)

Android TV as Selfservice Kiosksystem

Does anybody has experience of using an android tv box as self service kiosk like we know already from MC Donald's?
Criteria would be an portrait mode able device, which is able to connect to an touchscreen over USB (I'm using a iiyama 32").
Is Android TV capable to do such a task?

I already tried an raspberry pi 4, but it is kind of laggy and the terminal sdk supports only android.
It is such a mess, i do not know where to start hardware-wise as there are so many android tv devices around.

Can someone please suggest me some good local multiplayer/ split screen games??

I have a MI Box 4k (indian unit of MI Box S) and i have the remote and a spare controller, so please suggest accordingly.

Currently I am obsessed with BB Racing (Premium), Riptide GP2, Badland (Premium) and Death Road To Canada.

If you have some suggestions for single player games for my controller, that would be helpful too but please specify the type and requirement.

Thank you!

Suddendly static sound over audio (All app's)

Hello everybody,

I have an Nvidia Shield (2019) on my Philips AndroidTV. I got the Shield becaurse my TV can't play 4k movies.

After I got the first Shield, I got static sound when playing stuff on the Shield. It comes periodic and can often be forced by playing somthing on one app, and switch to another app. when starts playing some media the static sound is there.

I started to buy and switch HDMI cables, trying all the HDMI ports on the TV, resetting the TV and Shield, but nothing helped.
I then made a RMA on the Shield, and got a brand new one.
Both TV and Shield are up-to-date.

I setup the Sheild and was hopping the problem was over, buuuuuuuut then the static sound begins again. I startede with new HDMI cabels again, but the static sound comes everyday again.

Then I startede to search the "Google" and found out it can be a error between AndroidTV on my TV, and the Shield. All what I can find off fixes I'v tried, but i'v read alot, so I can have missed something.

Therefor, is there anyone that got a idea what I can do?

Best retards

Downloaded apps have a weird sizing on my Android TV

I'm trying to install some apps on my TV. I download them using the Downloader app (From Google Play) and then once I install them and open any of them, the app launches but it doesn't take up all the screen size, it only take a vertical bar from the TV resolution and that would be it.

I tried with many other apks (APKPure, Github...) I get the same issue, the app launches and seems to work fine when I try to navigate it "blindly" but the resolution is always off. Does anyone have any solution to this to make the sideloaded app take full resolution of the TV instead of just ~20% of it.

PS: I even reset the TV but still same issue

WiFi speed problems on a Philips TV (50PUS8535/12)

I don't live in a big apartment, but due to its construction kinks, the router sits on its one end and pretty much every network device I have on he other one. I solved this problem by buying a range extender and plugging it into the wall socket. For pretty much any network device including my laptop, this was enough to give me a high streaming speed.

Not for my Philips TV I bought this month, it seems. After a 4K YouTube video got choppy and switched to a lower resolution several times, I investigated and it seems its connection speed was ridiculously slow. Like, more than 10 times slower than my computer. This seems to be the case not only for the YouTube app – a speed test shows 60 Mbps and lower, sometimes even 10. For comparison, it's 200 Mbps on my PC, that sits farther away from the extender.

I'm not sure what could cause such problems. The signal strength seems OK (-48 DBm, -56 at least) and why wouldn't it, the extender is currently two meters from the TV and isn't obstructed by anything.

Prevent casting from phone

Is there any way I can block casting from phone to my TV, or at least set a whitelist so only my device allows it? Sometimes people on my wifi cast to my TV accidentally, turning it on from standby and playing youtube on it, and I can't seem to find a way to block this from happening.

Phillips TV remote eating batteries!

I have had my tv for 6 months and found last week the battery had died. No problem I’ll replace it. Couple days go, dead. Okay maybe the new batteries suck egg. Next day dead again.

I replaced the batteries again and left the remote untouched. After about two days the batteries have just been eaten up. I really have no idea why and now my tv is stuck on HDMI1 👍

Formuler GTV review

I just received my new GTV and am writing an honest review based on my personal observations.
Formuler shipped it via DHL and the parcel arrived in two days. Unfortunately it was damaged during shipping and had to be returned. Everything was done from their end, they had DHL come pick up the old one the next day and the new one arrived 2 days later along with a very friendly apology from their customer service rep. Very impressed with support and I haven’t even plugged it in yet.

So I open the package and plug it in. I like the size and shape of the box, compact and sleek look. The remote is very nice in my hand. My wife has rheumatoid arthritis so the real test is how she likes it, can she manipulate her hands to use it? The answer is a resounding yes. Best remote she has used in her opinion. Mine too, it’s very responsive, has the right weight and balance in the hand. I also like that it has dedicated buttons for things like Info and Guide, unlike other devices where I have to explain to wife and kids that you need to hit back button for guide. “Really? That doesn’t make sense.” They’d say, and I’d have to say “Trust me”. Now I say “use the guide butt”...easy peasy. It’s also bluetooth so you don’t have to point it at tv, or the GTV doesn’t have to have a perfect line of sight.

The device booted right up to its native iptv app called MOL2, short for MyTV Online I believe. Asked me to enter my portal which I did with no errors. I remembered to use UTC for my Electronic Program Guide and it loaded my playlist and guide faster than I have seen with other devices previously. Very impressed. When viewing the channels they were very clear and the zapping of channels was also strikingly faster than my other device using Tivimate. MOL2 is very easy to scroll through and is very similar to our old TiVo devices the cable company provided. Unlike Tivimate, no long pressing Left or stuff, with MOL2 left means left, up means up and down means down. Adding a USB drive and one it’s just a simple press for recording. I can even set up a series recording to do same show weekly. Shows that have already started can be watched from the beginning with Cloud shift. I’ve found all this and I’ve only had my device a few days. Give me a week and I’d have sore fingers from typing all the features as I discover them.

I’m sure there are people who will disagree and you’re welcome to your opinions. My opinion is for my circumstances and I find the device ideal. My wife finds it ideal and that is a major item as almost every person I know who uses IPTV has one spouse who knows how to use it and the other asks them to find station X. With this device all of my family grabs the remote and scans channels as if it were a cable box.

I don’t use Netflix on my device so the fact it’s not certified doesn’t bother me. I have it available on all 3 of my televisions in the house so don’t need a separate device for it. What I do need is to go purchase another two GTVs so all my TVs look and act the same

For support they have Reddit, Telegram and web based support channels that I know of. I don’t do Facebook or Twitter or any other unsocial media so don’t know if they’re there as well

Tcl C81 55" tv and Bluetooth

Hi all

I got a new Tcl C81 55" tv and am having problems with Bluetooth connections.

Am trying to connect my phone to it, and while it does pair, I am unable to play anything via Bluetooth such as music etc..

When I try to connect on my Samsung S10, my phone throws up an error saying "to use bluetooth tethering, turn off the wifi your phone".

I don't want to tether, which means I can't use wi-fi on my phone.

Does anyone know how to just simply connect via Bluetooth so my mp3s can be played through the TV?

Thanks.
