Mi Box S (MDZ-16-AB) playback frozen after extended suspend

by DopePedaller

UPDATE: I decided to do an experiment with this issue. Because the problem was happening with audio-only files also and video was briefly working on YouTube (a few frames played), I decided to see what happens when audio is routed through a different device. I used a cheapo sabrent USB device I had lying around. Since changing the audio output, the Mi Box has not had the freezing video issue. Yet.

Does anyone else with a spare USB audio device want to try this test on their Mi Box and see if they have the same results?

EDIT1 : Correction, it is a Mi Box 3 not Mi Box S

This issue started after an update a few months back, I think December, and I assumed Xiaomi would notice the problem and quickly send another update to fix it, but it never happened.

If the unit goes into suspend mode, upon wakeup the unit cannot properly play video or audio. Video, like YouTube, will show a frozen image from the video but not properly playback anything. Restarting the unit fixes the problem for all apps.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

I have the same problem. The menus work fine but I know if there is no sound from changing apps that it will be frozen and will require a restart

The latest beta fixes this issue if you want to try it out

I've had this problem from time to time. I know it got updated not long ago but I think it still is a bit weird which requires restart.

I have had this problem for a long time and have posted about it but there seems to be no fix yet. Correction - I read down thread that there is a beta that is supposed to fix it. I think I will wait for the stable release to come out.

Confirm, same issue. I always restart before use. Oh, and one of the best things I ever got for the Mi Box - a USB Ethernet dongle, though that too results in the need of a cold boot sometimes (remove power plug completely) to be re-recognized.

Just came here to say I have the exact same issue

Since a few days back I started to have Freezing of Video playback on start of a Youtube video (like 0.2 split second gets played, even if seek is done, before video is frozen).

Rest of Youtube app works fine in terms of loading up new videos, auto-preview thing, etc.

It started to happen after I did the Cache clearing from Settings > Internal Storage section.

Restart of the unit things are fine, as are when unit going in auto wallpaper mode for a while.
But some time later (can't determine the exact limit, maybe an hour or so of just normal use on another app, all of which are fine for now) the issue pops up.

Very weird bug.

Same problem, I just restart (I've got it on my Mi Box but not on the Mi Box S)

My Mi Box used to have "sleep of death" and video problems years ago on Marshmallow/Oreo, but currently with Pie build PI.2926 I haven't experienced any. Youtube plays normally, system uptime says 328 hours.

The box stays idle most of the time though, used probably twice a week for YouTube and Spotify.
