Can AndroidTV work without neteork?

Let me explain why I want such a thing. All I need is to play media files from USB storage. No streaming of any kind. No ads. No system updates which breaks everything (like on MiBox). There are some boxes on Amazon like Micca, but they have built-in, unupgradeable player. That's why I want Android, so I can sideload VLC and/or Kodi and update them in case of new codecs.

Android TV STB with HDMI Video Passthrough?

I'd like to replace my Xbox 1 with an Android TV box. I do a ton of casting and while I enjoy my Google TV, I also have a very cheap satellite package with locals and a few other channels I watch.

I am looking for a setup like I have with the XBox 1 where Android TV is an overlay over the satellite and I can go back and forth with a single HDMI input on my receiver.

Googled a lot and found some from 2014-2016 that are no longer current. Most of the posts I find are talking about audio passthrough and I would like full HDMI passthrough.

Anyone know a box that will do that? I was kind of surprised the NVidia Shield Pro didn't have that.

TCL 43P718 : Apple TV and HDMI CEC won't turn the TV off

Hi all,

I've got a new TCL 43P718 with Android TV to go along my Apple TV 4. I've enable all HDMI CEC settings on both the TV and the Apple TV.

But I've got a problem : when I use the Apple TV remote, I can't turn the TV off automatically. I can turn it on, but not off.

Whereas, when I use the TV remote, I can turn the Apple TV on and off automatically.

So why can't I turn the TV of automatically with the Apple TV remote? I've tried switching HDMI ports, I've tried turning on and off all the HDMI CEC settings, both on the TV and the Apple TV, I've reinitialized the TV settings, I've updated it… still no progress.

Any idea what I'm missing?

Need some Google Jedi help

I am trying to help my parents cut their cords and setting them up with Chromecast with Google TV. I can NOT figure out how to stop it from recommending things on apps they don't have. Am I missing it or is there no way to do this? I've unselected the apps in every place I can find. They keep downloading apps they don't have accounts for. Any help would be amazing! Thanks.

Looking for an HDMI switch that runs Android TV or can be controlled by Android TV

Looking to replace my Caavo HDMI switch since it's not getting updated to support newer devices at the moment.

Are there any 4 port HDMI switches that run Android TV or can be controlled via Android TV sorta like using an android TV box as an HDMI switcher.

Thanks!

Has Netflix been killing anyone else's AndroidTV's performance lately?

Starting about a month ago my AndroidTV performance would go to shit. It was super laggy and apps would crash endlessly. I would do a restart from the settings but the UI smoothness would only last for a few hours. I was on the verge of doing a factory reset when I realized apps could still be running in the background even on the home screen. So I systematically started force killing apps and have since determined that it was Netflix causing the issue. I would slowly stumble my way into the apps screen and the moment I force stopped Netflix, the UI would pop back to its normal, fluid self. Has this been happening to anyone else? I'm on a Sony Bravia with AndroidTV built in, if that matters.

Issues with 4:3 CRT Display on Mecool KM9 Pro. (Don't downvote me or ask me to upgrade)

Hi, I want to know how I can get my Mecool KM9 Pro to output 4:3 stretched. The reason is, the Mecool KM9 Pro exclusively outputs when the resolution is manually set to 640x480 via ADB, anamorphic widescreen output with the 4:3 picture letterboxed. That sounds confusing, but basically when I connect it to my CRT, there are thin black bars on each side of the screen, with a horizontally squished 4:3 picture. The obvious solution is to get the device to output to the internal analog output stretched 4:3 which will then be squished horizontally back to the correct 4:3 aspect ratio by the anamorphic widescreen composite output. How do I get the device to output 640x480 stretched to 16:9? Please don't ask me why or tell me to upgrade, I use these old displays as a hobby.

Verizon stream tv v1 and v2, turn off always on hdr?

I have both of these devices and both have HDR on at all times. Unless I'm missing something, theres no way for HDR to be turned off or better yet, just a simple setting for it to detect when standard content or HDR is being displayed so it can adjust accordingly.

Because HDR is on at all times and most content I watch (including the damn menu) is standard, everything is completely washed out and looks terrible. I have no clue how these devices are being used in homes when this is the case, unless the average person just can't tell.

Where to find hardware specs for Android TV

Is there a website or blog post where I can find hardware specs for a certain Android TV like CPU, memory, internal storage, etc. Basically the info given by Aida64.

I am trying to decide between getting the TCL 43S434 or the Hisense 43A68G and I wanted to check the hardware specs for at least these 2 models.

Any reason to wait for the new Google TV TCL models vs buying now?

Hi y’all, is there any reason to wait for the upcoming TCL models with Google TV—rather than just buy the TCL tv I want, and adding a CCwGTV now?

Maybe the TVs with GT built into the tv tend to work better… or maybe they’re actually worse, I can’t tell from forums. Do I get any additional features/benefits when the OS is built into the TV?

I suppose it would save me money/clutter if I had the new set all together vs buying the CCwGTV and Ethernet adapter. But I don’t really know when the new TVs will drop (supposed to be soon, but not sure which models).

I’m a new tv buyer and I want everything to work really well… thanks in advance for helping me not screw it up :)

Programming harmony remote App shortcuts on Sony Android TV

Hello, so I was hoping that someone might be able to help with my current problem. I am attempting to program my Logictech Harmony Remote to have shortcuts to open up different android Apps on the TV.

Now so far all of the information I have seen regarding this sort of setup pertains to using the Nvidia Shield and programming the shield's function keys to act as shortcuts using Button Mapper, then setting the function keys on the harmony remote.

Now I have managed to program the function keys into the TV by using a wired keyboard to set the keys, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the harmony remote to send those commands.

(yes I do know that I could probably use the numpad as the keys, but that could break other things on the remote, hence my reluctance to do so. )
